Chapter 516: Chapter 397 Hamby Wildlife Park
The incident that transpired within the Hurricane Bureau became the humiliation of all tech personnel.
Although they were reluctant to believe it, the reality was right before their eyes, leaving them no choice but to grit their teeth and admit it.
The study of computers, just like mathematics, deals with absolutes—what’s one is one, and what’s two is two, with absolutely no room for spin.
Faced with such an outcome, these individuals were not only mortified, but also utterly convinced of their defeat.
They could not even remember the last time they had been so thoroughly trounced.
Perhaps it was something like the early days of their training when they were metaphorically pinned down and scrubbed by some industry veterans.
How similar the current situation was to those days.
This matter even alarmed Lune Matthews, the director who was out on a field mission.
He was originally with the members of the Hurricane Team investigating a mysterious creature at Hamby Wildlife Park.
However, he suddenly received a call informing him that the network within the sub-bureau was instantly breached.
This news shocked him to the core, prompting him to immediately head back.
It is well known that the sub-bureau’s internal database contained numerous confidential reports on their investigations of anomalous events.
These were top-secret documents that absolutely could not be leaked.
"Shit, what exactly is happening at the sub-bureau? Isn’t our network managed by Beast? And wasn’t the Divine Shield Protection System installed, fused with the latest intelligent assistance technology? How could it have been breached without any warning?"
Inside a specially modified black Suburban SUV, Lune asked his companion Jonathan with a face full of disbelief, hoping to get some additional information from him.
The latter was equally clueless about the incident and was currently mulling it over as well.
The vehicle sped along the night road, weaving through the highway outside Hamby Wildlife Park, surrounded by overgrown weeds and wilderness.
At this hour, hardly anyone would be using the road, so there were no concerns about speeding too fast and hitting someone.
Yet, as the two discussed the situation at the sub-bureau, Lune’s dedicated satellite phone suddenly rang.
He fished the phone out from his chest and pressed the answer button.
But the message from the other end immediately made his already anxious face freeze.
In its place was a deep shock.
"What did you say? Hurricane Team Three was attacked? What exactly happened!?"
The roaring voice of Lune erupted in the vehicle, jarring Jonathan’s ears, who was driving at the front.
Jonathan’s face also slightly changed color because they had just been with the members of Team Three.
After Lune had shouted out, he also fell silent, his face grim as he listened to the report from the other end of the phone.
The inside of the car was very quiet, and Jonathan could faintly catch a few spine-chilling words through the phone’s speaker.
"Monster... attack... one minute... complete annihilation..."
"How could this be...?"
Jonathan wished so dearly that he had heard wrong.
Just moments ago, he had been with the members of Team Three at Hamby Wildlife Park’s temporary command center, analyzing the pattern of the monster’s appearance.
How could it be that right after they had left, the place was attacked, and what’s worse, suffered the most unacceptable full-scale defeat...
You should know, the Hurricane Teams they had established consisted of the cream of the crop.
They were all top agents and warriors, each capable of easily taking down a fully armed mercenary team on their own.
One might say that if this were a movie, they would definitely all be the template for the main characters.
However, such a team was wiped out in one minute by that so-called monster, with none of them able to escape. Such news was truly shocking.
After a long while, Lune silently hung up the phone and looked at Jonathan in front of him, repeating what had just happened.
It was indeed as he had guessed. The third team of the Hurricane Team stationed at Hamby Wildlife Park’s management had been completely annihilated. All nine members were gone.
The car fell into silence once again, with only the sound of tires rubbing against the ground outside.
Now, neither of them had the heart to care about the affairs of the sub-bureau. The news they had just learned weighed on their chests like a massive boulder.
"Jonathan, let’s go back..."
Lune suddenly spoke up.
In front, Jonathan immediately reacted like a cat whose fur had been rubbed the wrong way.
"Lune, are you out of your mind? Do you know what you’re saying? Going back now, do you realize how dangerous that is? I absolutely won’t do something that foolish!"
As he spoke, he angrily slapped the steering wheel, causing the car horn to beep insistently.
Lune didn’t speak again; he of course knew the current situation there. When he had spoken earlier, it was just to give himself some comfort.
After all, those were his brothers-in-arms, and he felt unspeakably guilty and distressed at this moment.
"Shit!"
Jonathan slapped the steering wheel hard again, the robust horn sound particularly grating in the desolate wilderness of the suburbs.
Moreover, accompanying the sound, there came a series of muffled footsteps, seemingly from the wildlife park behind them...
The silent night, the cold moonlight, the desolate highway—all of it exuded an eerie and oppressive feeling.
At this moment, inside the SUV.
Lune had fully calmed his emotions.
He had now completed a series of mission deployments through a dedicated satellite, and three Avalon armed helicopters were already on their way.
They were going to stop at a gas station ahead, conveniently meeting up with reinforcements, and then discuss how to go back to the scene for investigation.
"Perhaps, I should really thank the guy who broke into our bureau’s System. If it weren’t for him, we might already have been torn to shreds by that monster by now..."
Lune lay back in his seat, glancing obliquely out the front windshield at the road, trying to make light of the situation to ease the pressure in his heart.
In the front, sitting in the driver’s seat, Jonathan slightly curled the corners of his mouth, squeezing out a somewhat forced smile.
Clearly, he had no interest in the cold jokes his leader was telling.
Lune didn’t expect these comforts to make any difference; he was just trying to distract himself.
Looking at the road lit up by the car’s headlights, his mood was just as dark as the night around him, not a bit brighter.
"Hmm... Jonathan, did you hear any sounds?"
Lune’s ears suddenly perked up. He swallowed the self-deprecating joke he had been about to make and instead asked with a note of confusion.
However, before Jonathan could answer, a massive figure abruptly appeared in front of the car, right after Lune finished speaking.
Judging by the trajectory of the figure’s movement, it seemed to have leapt from behind the vehicle to the front.
"Bang!"
A loud noise followed, and although Jonathan had slammed on the brakes immediately, they still came into a close encounter with the large figure.
