World-saving Plan: The Only Savior -
Chapter 501 - 382: The Thing Under the Bed
Chapter 501: Chapter 382: The Thing Under the Bed
Jannan had already linked together a string of possibilities at this time.Things like a mysterious technology company researching genetic viruses, and weird, mad scientists modifying mutated creatures.
Evil plans, terrifying experiments, world-ending crises—these plots often appeared even in movies.
Jannan wasn’t trying to be some kind of world-saving hero.
However, now that this oasis where he resided had witnessed the emergence of monsters twice consecutively, he no longer dared to stay here.
Who knew if a monster might suddenly appear after this group of people left, leaving him with no one to call for help.
With this thought, Jannan couldn’t help but look again at the mysterious man beside him.
The man undoubtedly possessed extraordinary powers.
From what Jannan could tell during his time interacting with them, this organization’s people likely held no malice toward him.
He believed he could discern as much from their way of doing things.
After all, he had once been the chief security consultant of Black Fox Security Company, and he was confident in his ability to assess the potential risks of certain people and situations.
To put it bluntly, Jannan could even guess whether a person bore any hostility through just a single sentence, or even a look.
Of course, it wasn’t outside the realm of possibility that he might really have misjudged someone.
Still, Jannan had quite a bit of confidence in himself.
He felt that these people in front of him might represent an opportunity for him to escape this predicament.
Actually, he was not satisfied with his current life; if possible, he didn’t want to live in hiding here alone.
After all, who from modern civilization could truly live in complete isolation?
Loneliness and solitude could drive a person insane.
The so-called idyllic retreat was certainly something to look forward to, but the premise was that it had to actually be an idyllic retreat.
Jannan didn’t think this desert qualified as any kind of retreat.
It was just unfortunate that he had killed the son of Rees.
It could be said that in this world, there were not many places where he could feel at home anymore.
While he could hide in some remote small country, find a little town to avoid the pursuit of most, Jannan knew that these people definitely didn’t include his old rival.
He was very familiar with this person’s strength and, with the resources provided by Rees, he had no choice but to hide in this isolated place.
Who would want to hide forever if it were possible to live openly and legitimately?
Now, with the opportunity right before his eyes, he felt like he should try to seize it.
As he hesitated over how to broach the subject without seeming too desperate, Jannan saw the man in front of him suddenly glance behind and then seemed to be drawn to something.
Zhang Xiaoman had casually activated the Spirit Detection Technique while examining the giant snake’s corpse. When he turned around, he suddenly noticed some peculiar Dark Energy Fluctuations coming from the location of the hut.
He immediately led everyone over and found, upon getting closer, that the Dark Energy Fluctuations were emanating from beneath the house.
"Could it be another basement... Wrong, judging from the position, it’s not that deep. It should be just buried in the soil layer," he theorized.
Zhang Xiaoman walked into the house and stood by the wooden bed that had miraculously survived the savage attacks of the giant wolf.
"Mr. Zhan, do you know what’s buried underneath here?"
Upon hearing this, Jannan’s face showed a hint of confusion.
"Your Excellency, are you referring to something beneath this bed? But I haven’t heard anything about there being something underneath—could it possibly be..."
Upon seeing his expression, Zhang Xiaoman knew the other party was similarly unaware, so he asked,
"Then, Mr. Zhan, would you mind if I take a look at what’s beneath here?"
Jannan gestured for them to proceed, and Zhang Xiaoman, without standing on ceremony, immediately gestured with his hand, summoning several Star Guards over.
Suddenly, several muscular figures clad in armor appeared in the room, startling everyone; they regarded them with a mix of awe and curiosity.
Aside from being used for combat, the Star Guards also served as excellent labor, handling many dirty and strenuous tasks.
Following Zhang Xiaoman’s signal, the Star Guards moved the heavy wooden bed and lifted the carpet and several wooden boards underneath, revealing a hidden compartment below.
"This is... a Star Alliance Marker!"
As the dust was wiped away, they saw a few symbols embedded in the ground, so familiar to Zhang Xiaoman—they were undoubtedly the Star Alliance Markers of this location.
"Is... is this what Your Excellency was searching for?"
Jannan looked at the symbols on the ground and then at the cloaks of the Star Guards, which bore the same patterns.
Members of the Wildfire Team apparently guessed something too.
To them, this seemed like the fabled Magic Array that this mysterious Transcendent was here to seek.
Zhang Xiaoman crouched down and channeled a wisp of Dark Energy into it, causing the Star Alliance Markers to emit a dazzling glow. Soon after, the room plunged into a scene reminiscent of the starry sky.
A moment later, as the glow receded back into the Markers, everyone came to their senses from the shock.
Jannan nodded silently, thinking to himself that the visitor must indeed have come for this artifact.
However, Zhang Xiaoman did not cease his actions as he sensed the Dark Energy Fluctuations still present beneath the Markers.
Under the puzzled gazes of those around, the Star Guards removed a few more planks, revealing the entire floor beneath.
"Thud, thud, thud..."
Zhang Xiaoman tapped lightly on the stones, and immediately, a series of clear sounds echoed back.
"Hmm? Is it hollow?"
Jannan was taken aback.
Zhang Xiaoman stepped back, allowing the Star Guards to step forward once more. They searched the ground and finally found a crevice. They pulled out their longswords and pried it open.
"Creak, creak~"
The sound of stones rubbing against each other filled the air as a secret compartment was opened, revealing the secret hidden within for decades.
"How... how can this be here..."
Jannan’s eyes widened as he gazed upon a metal box, unable to believe what he was seeing.
He never imagined that under the bed where he had slept for so long, there was such a thing buried.
"The treasures of Estevan Vasical, left for his beloved son..."
Zhang Xiaoman read aloud from a note on the box before handing it to the nearby Jannan.
The latter read the note for a long time and then turned his gaze back to the box.
By now, how could he not understand—that beneath the bed here, his grandfather had buried treasures, seemingly intended for his own father.
And the reason he deemed them precious was that they had attracted the interest of the Extraordinary Force leader nearby—certainly, they were not ordinary items.
However, for some reason, it seemed his father was unaware of this secret. Until now, the treasure lay undiscovered by this mysterious individual and was only brought to light again.
