World-saving Plan: The Only Savior
Chapter 489 - 370: Oasis in the Desert

Chapter 489: Chapter 370: Oasis in the Desert

The next day, early morning.

The group woke up early with the intention of entering the Sahara Desert to seek out the person living reclusively in the oasis.

The Sahara Desert is proclaimed as the toughest place to survive on Water Blue Star, covering a quarter of Africa and spanning 11 countries.

During the day, the desert temperature can reach up to 57.7 degrees Celsius, and activity under such conditions can quickly cause dehydration followed by shock and then death.

Therefore, the Wildfire Team had to reach their destination before noon, guided by locals, they also had some understanding of the oasis’s location.

"So all we need to do is leave this place and continue walking in the northwest direction, right? Burp..."

Hu Peng asked Weiss beside him, unable to suppress a belch during the conversation.

Having gone hungry the night before, they had finally found some edible food upon waking up this morning.

It was a black mushy substance made by the locals, typically eaten for breakfast.

However, they didn’t know exactly what it was made of and didn’t dare ask. Now, they were just glad to fill their bellies.

Currently, they were walking on sandy terrain five kilometers outside a small town.

Given this terrain, even Weiss’s beloved off-road vehicle couldn’t traverse it, and they had to rely on walking to reach the oasis.

"How much longer till we get there? We’ve been walking for so long, could we be lost?"

Xun You wiped a few water bottles around his waist; there were about five liters of water left.

In such conditions, they needed to consume at least one liter of water per hour. This rate would accelerate under the harsh noon sun.

Meanwhile, the intelligence officer Mikel stopped walking and surveyed the surrounding terrain. He spoke in a somewhat stiff tone:

"Based on the shape of the sand dunes formed by the wind, that direction should be northeast, so our current path is correct. As for the time, it’s estimated about two more hours under normal conditions. It might take longer if we encounter strong winds."

Mikel, like everyone else, was wrapped in a headscarf with his face smeared in black charcoal.

This was done to prevent dehydration and heatstroke due to direct sunlight exposure and to protect the eyes from being hurt by the intense light.

However, his facial expression was very dull, and his tone was rigid, making it feel like they were dealing with a computer.

"Hey, Carl, are you sure this guy isn’t a robot?"

Hu Peng whispered to Weiss, walking behind him.

"Hahaha, a robot, that’s a good nickname," Weiss suddenly laughed out loud, then explained:

"Don’t be fooled by Mikel’s appearance. He’s actually a very warm-hearted guy. The lack of expression on his face is due to a facial paralysis he has had since childhood. It isn’t that he has no feelings."

"As for his voice, well, the main issue is his poor English. He’s from Italy and for some reason, he’s never been good at English."

Hearing this, Hu Peng and Xun You glanced curiously at Mikel, although the latter showed no reaction.

The group walked about five kilometers further, taking roughly two hours, closely matching Mikel’s initial estimate.

Along the way, they encountered a few isolated date palms, and Weiss climbed up to pick some dates, adding to their food reserves.

Fortunately, they were still just on the outskirts of the Sahara Desert and hadn’t ventured deep into it; the environment wasn’t too harsh.

Otherwise, with just a few people and that little supply, survival would have been incredibly difficult.

"This has to be the worst place I’ve ever been. If I had known beforehand, I wouldn’t have volunteered to come here. This place should be left to Lord Bear; he would thrive here," said Hu Peng.

Hu Peng and Xun You chatted in Huaxia, which the others didn’t understand.

However, despite their complaints, the spirit of adventure in their bones was evident on their excited faces.

After all, with the Starry Stone, they could teleport and escape at any moment should trouble arise, freely leaving the desert without any worries.

Finally, as the group pressed on and the sun became more scorching, they suddenly discovered a small oasis about a kilometer ahead, which was clearly their destination.

The sandy terrain was challenging to navigate, especially around dunes, where sometimes taking one step forward could mean sliding two steps back.

Therefore, this final kilometer took them quite a bit of time.

"It looks like we’ve made it. I thought it would be a wasted trip, but to my surprise, your intelligence was accurate. There really is an oasis here; I can’t believe that person would actually be here," Weiss remarked, surveying the surroundings.

The others glanced at him with surprise, sensing something unusual in his words.

"What’s the matter, Kaman? From your tone, it seems like you know that person?"

But Hu Peng’s words only made the members of the Wildfire team even more astonished. Anna looked at them incredulously and said, "You’ve come all this way to find him, and you don’t even know who he is? Then what are you here for?"

"Uh..."

Hu Peng was at a loss for words, feeling from her tone as though he surely should know the person’s identity.

"What’s the matter with him? Is he famous?"

"Famous? More than just famous! To be honest, when you tasked us to find this person and I saw the name, I thought you were joking with me. Jannan Vasikar, how could such a person even be in such a forsaken place?"

"Who is he exactly, and why are you so surprised?"

The Wildfire team members looked at them as if they had seen a ghost and finally someone spoke up:

"Jannan Vasikar is not just famous; he’s a legendary figure among us Bounty Hunters and later became the chief security consultant for the American Black Fox Security Company, only to suddenly disappear for some unknown reason," said Weiss, once again with a curious expression.

"Okay, actually, as per the professional rules of Bounty Hunters, I shouldn’t be asking, but I’m really curious. If you don’t even know what Jannan does, then why are you looking for him?"

He paused, adding, "Of course, if there are any secrets involved, you can refuse to answer; I am just simply curious."
