Chapter 488: Chapter 369: Ero’s Journey

Five days later, Ero.

This was an obscure little town situated in the eastern region, perpetually assaulted by the sands which left the buildings in ruins, appearing as a collection of weather-beaten relics.

If not for the occasional appearance of a few local residents, one might mistake it for an abandoned ancient relic.

At this moment, on the town’s streets, there was a group of people dressed in a way that completely clashed with the local style, walking along. Their arrival instantly caught the gaze of the few residents there.

"Ding-a-ling~"

A sharp bell sound rang out as a white man about six feet tall, wearing a sleeveless vest emerged from the doorway of a stone house.

"Guys, I just confirmed it, this place is indeed Qiquituk Town, we’ve reached our destination."

As the man spoke, those around him all let out a sigh of relief.

Clearly, they seemed to have spent much effort in finding this place over the past few days.

"Hahaha, we finally found it. So this place is Qiquituk Town, it really was tough to locate. If we hadn’t found it, I think I’d have become depressed."

The speaker was a tall, thin man with pale skin from the Light Blue Clan, Hu Peng.

"Yeah, even with an address, it still took us so long to find. It feels just like the old times when we were searching for various ruins on our adventures."

The one who joined in was another young man, Xun You, a close companion of Hu Peng.

The two conversed in Huaxia, although the rest were mostly blond and blue-eyed foreigners, except for one woman around thirty who had a Eurasian face.

"Kaman, thanks for your help. Now that we’ve reached Qiquituk Town, there’s only one step left, just to find the guy named Vasikar."

Hu Peng said excitedly to the man he spoke to earlier.

This man was none other than Weiss Kamman, the bounty hunter who had helped them search for the Black Mamba Snake in Congo.

Alongside him were his three other teammates from the bounty team: the sniper Ciro, the bomber Anna, and the intelligence officer Mikel.

These four were the members of the Wildfire Team, often active in the African region.

"No need to thank me, boss, you paid us, and we did the job, that’s only natural."

Weiss said with a smile, continuing to lead the group toward a shop by the street.

"This is the place I just found out about. It’s the only place in this town that hosts guests. If you’re looking to find that guy, I suggest we rest tonight and set off tomorrow instead."

"Ah? Tomorrow? Isn’t that person here in the town?"

Weiss shook his head and said, "He’s not here. According to the information I just gathered, the person you’re looking for isn’t in this town, but there is someone who matches his description living on the outskirts, in a small oasis near the edge of the Sahara Desert."

Upon hearing this, both Hu Peng and Xun You felt somewhat depressed. They had thought this trip was at its end, only to find out they still had to venture into the desert.

"Alright then, we really should rest a bit. Hopefully, we can find him tomorrow..."

As the group talked, they entered a small house, which was just as run-down as they had imagined. The main hall had only one table and one chair, both looking nearly ready to fall apart.

"I want to eat Kushari."

The only female teammate, Anna, muttered under her breath as she faced a stinky, hard salted fish before her.

"Kushari..."

Xun You couldn’t help but recall the snack he had when he first arrived in Ero, made of a mix of spaghetti, rice, and hollow pasta, and his face also showed a trace of longing and regret.

In fact, at that time, he had also refused to eat it, because, in his view, it wasn’t much different from some of the dark cuisines back home.

But now he had come to understand what it meant that without comparison there is no harm.

During his travels these days, Xun You had visited quite a few small towns, hoping to taste some local specialties.

But he realized he was wrong; the hybrid hodgepodge he had initially eaten already qualified as a superb delicacy.

"Heaven knows why I ended up eating dried fish in the world’s largest desert."

Xun You looked at the dried fish laid in front of him, its eyes wide open, dead yet staring, and the nauseating smell wafting into his nostrils almost made him vomit yesterday’s meal.

He swore that if they hadn’t been searching for so long and hadn’t run out of supplies, he wouldn’t have touched the dried fish.

"Guys, look at the expression on the owner’s face; this is the best food we can find here,"

Weiss said, comforting everyone.

"I believe you definitely wouldn’t want to know what grilled dung beetles taste like."

As soon as he said this, everyone felt even less appetized.

The first to move was Wildfire Team’s intelligence officer, Mikel.

He calmly picked up the dried fish from the table and sizing it up, said,

"Feixik dried fish, said to have originated in the Pharaoh’s time. Each spring, as the waters of the Ni Po River receded, many dead fishes would be washed ashore and naturally dried. Later, the Ancient Elero People picked them up and realized they tasted great, which led to the tradition of eating dried fish."

The bespectacled man spoke and slowly put the dried fish into his mouth, lightly chewing a couple of times.

The next second.

"Blegh!"

Mikel immediately bent over and vomited everything in his mouth.

And once he started, he couldn’t stop.

Along with the dried fish, anything else he had eaten for lunch came rushing out, and the entire process lasted a good five minutes, leaving the onlookers horrified.

"Even, even Mikel..."

The black sniper Ciro watched the scene, his face twitching. In their team, Mikel was known as the man without a sense of taste, and now even he had been defeated by this dried fish...

Thinking this, he glanced at the mummified-like dried fish in his hand and then threw it back on the table.

"I, I think I’m not that hungry anymore. You guys eat; I’ll go rest for a while."

After seeing Mikel’s nearly ascended plight, no one else dared to try the dried fish. They all dropped what they were holding and dashed to the next room to rest.

The local man, seeing all this, looked puzzled.

Curiously, he walked over to the table, picked up a piece of dried fish, and took a bite. He immediately showed a look of enjoyment, glanced at the room screened by a curtain, and felt even more baffled.

"Such delicious food, and they don’t eat it? Must be a bunch of idiots."
