Chapter 486 - 367 Hurricane Bureau

Chapter 486: Chapter 367 Hurricane Bureau

Jonathan was very familiar with the habits of his companion.

Although he appeared to be quite elegant and generous on the outside, those who knew him were aware that he was a highly intelligent person with meticulous thoughts and comprehensive actions.

At times, even as a doctor of psychology, Jonathan would often find it difficult to fathom his partner’s thoughts. How could such a person possibly commit such low-level errors?

Otherwise, he would not have become the head of the S.E.R.B.

Clearly, these two men were not police officers from the New York City Hatbrim District. They were from a newly established department in America called the "Special Event Emergency Response Bureau," abbreviated as "S.E.R.B."

It was also known by another name—"Hurricane Bureau."

This department was similar to the Abnormality Department in Huaxia, created specifically to deal with the many strange incidents that had recently started to occur.

Initially, it was formed as a precaution, but as unusual events became increasingly frequent, the scale of the S.E.R.B. also grew.

By now, the S.E.R.B. had gained significant attention from the American Government, which hoped they could sweep away any monster that emerged within the country with the force of a hurricane, hence the latter nickname.

The two individuals who showed up at the Hatbrim District police station today were high-level officials from the Hurricane Bureau.

One was the advisor Jonathan, with his strong analytical abilities; the other was the director of the Hurricane Bureau, known as "Eye of the Storm," Lune.

Normally, they would not be personally involved in such a mission, but since they were already nearby investigating several special cases that had recently appeared in New York City, they came directly upon hearing the report.

Beelu walked home, unaware that he was being watched by such people, feeling very proud of himself.

Plainclothes investigators from the Hurricane Bureau had already surveilled his trail and surroundings, a large net quietly unfolding, waiting for his next contact with the mysterious person(s).

"Jonathan, this is the second unusual incident in New York City, right? I remember that we personally came to direct the last time. That monster... really left a deep impression on me."

Lune fetched a bottle of hot water, made himself a cup of coffee, and said somewhat nostalgically, the memory of the incident two months ago surfacing in his mind.

At that time, the Hurricane Bureau had just been established, and even the current Hurricane Team did not yet exist; most of their personnel were special agents seconded from other departments.

In the face of the transcendent monster, all personnel lacked the necessary weapons, Skill reserve, and psychological preparation, resulting in a defeat that came at a high price.

Back then, the Button City Trouser Leg District received many calls for help, reporting sightings of a slender ghost shadow killing people.

At first, the police didn’t believe it, thinking it was just a prank by a group of people, or some kids on drugs having hallucinations.

Jokingly, they thought the slender ghost shadow was just a part of folk horror stories. Using this to call the police—were they treating them like fools?

But as the number of reports increased, the police could no longer sit idle and went to investigate the scene.

However, that investigation quickly led to trouble.

Two groups of officers went and never returned, and the case immediately alarmed the headquarters.

Finally, with the corroboration of some photos and videos, the incident was quickly classified as an abnormal case and handed over to the newly formed Hurricane Bureau.

That battle was the Hurricane Bureau’s debut, but the premiere was somewhat unsuccessful, and they paid a heavy price.

To this day, Lune could not forget the appearance of that so-called slender ghost shadow.

It stood over two meters tall, with limbs slender as steel needles, making a "sizzle, sizzle, sizzle" sound with every step it took on the ground, instilling an involuntary chill in the hearts of those who heard it.

Moreover, the most frightening thing about this creature was that it could turn invisible, the kind of invisibility even thermal imaging couldn’t detect.

The monster’s ability, combined with the darkness of night and the street environment, was like something out of a ghost story, utterly unpredictable and defensive.

Even bullets didn’t phase it, hitting its body as if it weren’t there at all.

In the end, even after its head was blown off, its broken body continued to flail its needle-like arms, causing a lot of trouble for our side.

It was after that incident that the American Government began to increase its investment in the Hurricane Bureau and also devised a series of measures to deal with related crises.

Lune, as the director of the Hurricane Bureau, had also seen plenty of strange monsters, each one proving to be a tough challenge for him and his team.

Even for an elite team like the Hurricane Team, casualties were common in battles.

Therefore, Lune was very curious about the mysterious individual who had so easily resolved this crisis.

It just so happened that he had heard about similar occurrences in Milk Town, which inevitably made him think of legends about Super Heroes.

"Could it be that our Hurricane Bureau will one day become something like a snake pit? Will my flowing hair also turn bald?"

Seeing the expression on his boss’s face, Jonathan knew he must be thinking about going off to some bizarre place again.

His old partner, although strong in all aspects, tended to have a mind that would jump to odd places.

He would inexplicably drift off to other thoughts and was also fond of making corny jokes.

"Lune, we need to head back now, it’s almost 4 AM, and don’t forget you have to get up early tomorrow to deal with the report on the abnormal incident at the zoo."

Hearing his partner’s reminder, Lune returned to reality from his relaxed coffee-sipping pace with an elegant smile and said,

"I know, Jonathan, let’s go back. By the way, do you have any intel on the Hamby Zoo incident?"

Jonathan said indignantly, "Lune, you definitely didn’t read the email I sent you."

Lune waved his hand dismissively, "You know me, those things are like hypnosis to me. If you want me to stay energetic, I think it’s best to stop sending me emails altogether."

"Lune, that excuse is truly the worst I’ve ever seen."

Jonathan sighed in resignation and continued,

"Alright, regarding the latest intel on Hamby Wildlife Park, I think you really need to be aware of this..."

He paused for a moment, then adjusted his glasses and continued,

"Rees has reported that this is the fourth strange incident at the zoo this week, resulting in 19 people missing and 5 fatalities. There have been no survivors found among those who encountered these anomalies..."

"The park has been closed off, but the perpetrator is still at large. According to the analysis of the traces at the scene, it might not be just one individual involved, but it’s also not the behavior of a group of animals."

"Additionally, according to the zoo’s records, they’ve lost a brown bear, a lion, and two wolves, which matches some of the residual traces found at the scene. Therefore, we have reason to believe that this could be a widespread abnormality event that’s occurred all at once."
