Chapter 467: Chapter 348: The Bizarre in the Apartment
Aaron was seeing his home from this angle for the first time, and it felt somewhat familiar yet a bit foreign.
This was an old house with many years under its belt; just looking at its facade, one could tell that it had weathered many seasons, and not a few short ones at that.
The worn and filthy walls were jarringly out of place with the surrounding environment, and the whole building’s architectural style was still stuck decades in the past.
If it weren’t for the occasional person coming in and out, one might truly think it was a derelict building awaiting demolition.
But don’t underestimate this building; even in a place like Button City where real estate was worth its weight in gold, its value was easily over a hundred million dollars.
Zhang Xiaoman wasn’t visiting for the first time; it was precisely because he hadn’t found Aaron on his last visit that a series of events had unfolded.
"This place is too small, and it’s inconvenient with too many people around. You wait for me in the Dawn, I’ll go there with him and have a look."
Zhang Xiaoman instructed Lord Bear and Bena to stay in the car while he followed Aaron into the apartment building.
Of course, they descended from the rooftop. Upon entering the interior of the building, they were hit by an indescribable odor, a mix reminiscent of expired food, trash, sweat, and socks.
The building was fairly large in area and reached a height of nine stories; it had a tube-structure corridor. However, due to the division into many living units, the overall space felt somewhat cramped—the narrow corridors barely accommodating two people walking side by side.
Even though it was his second visit, Zhang Xiaoman couldn’t help feeling emotional about the environment; it was hard to imagine that in a world-class economic hub like Button City, such places still existed.
"Star Lord, my home is just up ahead. Just two more floors down."
Aaron led the way, scratching his head somewhat embarrassingly:
"I’m really sorry; I didn’t expect the elevator to be broken again. We’ve complained about this problem many times, but it never seems to help..."
Zhang Xiaoman shook his head to indicate it was fine, not particularly caring about such things.
Now that he had established the Star Alliance and become a respected Star Lord, such living conditions weren’t new to him—he had lived in even worse conditions before, and these were nothing to him.
Moreover, his purpose for coming here was to look for the Star Alliance Marker near Aaron’s younger brother’s home; he didn’t care for these trivial details.
After they rounded two flights of stairs, sudden and rapid footsteps echoed from the hallway ahead. A black man dressed in a beige sweater came running toward them in a panicked state. From the terrified expression on his face, it was clear that he was trying to escape from something.
"Bang!"
The man was running too fast, and Aaron wasn’t paying attention; they collided with a heavy thump.
"Ah, Aaron? You’re back?"
The man in the sweater got up, initially planning to leave directly, but upon seeing who it was, he stopped in his tracks, surprised, and asked a question.
"Um... Beelu, what’s going on? Why are you running? Where are you going?"
Aaron rubbed his somewhat swollen forehead, inquiring about the guy in front of him.
This was one of his neighbors, named Beelu Blake, who he used to play with often since childhood.
But at this moment, Beelu was too panicked to catch up with his old friend; he glanced anxiously behind him, then turned back to Aaron, and spoke hastily:
"Bro, listen to me, something is chasing me right now, I need to leave this place immediately! You better get going too, I’ve already called the cops, and they’ll be here any minute, that damn bastard won’t catch me!"
Aaron’s black friend spoke extremely fast, with vivid expressions on his face that not only failed to convey the fear he was feeling but even gave off a strangely amusing vibe.
After finishing, Beelu intended to leave immediately. It was indeed a surprise to meet an old friend, but his own life was of the utmost importance.
However, his actions were promptly interrupted by Aaron, who grabbed his hand tightly, not letting him get away.
"Beelu, what happened exactly? What’s chasing you? Maybe I can help."
Beelu became even more anxious. He glanced back twice quickly before turning back and speaking at a super-fast pace:
"Hey, man, I know this sounds unbelievable, but it’s true, I’ve encountered a ghost, a ghost glowing green all over! Just like the rumors spreading in the apartment recently, it really exists! Now, it’s got its sights on me, oh God, why am I so unlucky! Let go of me quickly, let me get out of here, it’s coming!"
Beelu blurted out a mouthful in one go, and then tried to hop away to escape, but due to the excessive motion, he suddenly lost balance and fell to the ground.
"Buzz~~~"
Just as Beelu was frantically trying to get up, a peculiar sound suddenly came from the end of the corridor. It was like a metallic screeching sound with a stretched-out tone that was quite irritating to hear.
"Oh, f*ck! It’s coming after me!"
Beelu suddenly yelled out, his eyes wide with terror as he looked towards the corner of the hallway.
The next second, a green light shone, and an orb about one meter in diameter appeared, floating towards where everyone was.
It was something that resembled a green light ball, looking a little like the Skill Light Ball that Xiao Man won in the lottery, only it was bigger and brighter.
"Buzz~~~"
That thing emitted another sharp, metallic screeching sound. Its speed wasn’t fast, but the corner of the corridor wasn’t too far from where they were, so it quickly approached everyone’s vicinity.
"F*ck! Run! Run! It’s coming!"
It was only then that Beelu snapped out of his panic and hurriedly got up, attempting to run away.
Aaron too was startled by this sudden turn of events, but he didn’t leave right away, instead, he turned his gaze towards the person standing beside him.
Zhang Xiaoman squinted his eyes and scrutinized the creature before him, now remembering where he had seen this thing before.
It was during his first visit to Lin Sisi’s house when she called him for help; one of the paintings there had a monster like this attached to it.
He remembered that this type of monster seemed to be called a Wandering Spirit, and he had explained to Lin Sisi the difference between a Wandering Spirit and a ghost back then.
Perhaps, due to the Sect Establishment Order, the distinctions he’d made back then had now, ironically, become real.
Anyway, regardless of how you put it, this thing was actually just a Level 1 low-level weakling. Xiao Man vaguely remembered that the original one had provided him with less than 5 points.
He immediately raised his arm and used the Soul Raiding Skill on the Wandering Spirit that was rushing towards him.
