Chapter 446: Chapter 327: The Truth of the Matter

Whether it was a monster was Aaron’s utmost concern.

After all, he was a demon hunter, not a private detective.

If this woman’s parents had simply been murdered by someone, then he had little interest in meddling.

Raised on Grandpa Barr’s demon hunting stories, Aaron had gained a basic understanding of his profession.

In his view, a mature demon hunter needed to possess four fundamental qualities:

Swiftness, fearlessness, proficiency, and concentration.

Swiftness, naturally refers to one’s physical abilities; no matter what, personal strength always ranked first.

Fearlessness meant that a demon hunter needed to maintain a heart unafraid of danger.

Otherwise, if one fled in terror or froze up when facing a monster, how could they even begin to hunt demons?

Proficiency, aside from combat skills, also included knowledge.

Only by knowing both oneself and the enemy could one win every battle. Many monsters, though seemingly powerful, had their own weaknesses.

He needed to observe and discern their weaknesses, to defeat them with a single strike.

Finally, a mature demon hunter also needed to possess the trait of concentration.

Concentration not only meant patience, but most importantly, it required focus.

Grandpa Barr once said that a true demon hunter should focus solely on eliminating demons, ignoring worldly affairs, not seeking fame and fortune, and never forgetting their original intent.

While hunting demons, one should not be distracted by other matters; demon hunters should just do their job well.

Because in every corner of the world, countless demons lurk, and every moment you are delayed by other matters, more people will suffer from the demons’ harm.

So, if this woman had merely encountered an ordinary murder case, then he was also powerless to help.

After all, he was not a detective; if the police couldn’t find any leads, he was equally clueless.

Facing Aaron’s repeated questioning, the woman sitting on the sofa was silent for a moment before slowly speaking:

"Monster... my mother told me. She sent me a text message on the day she disappeared; in the message, she wrote that there was a monster outside... Heh, you probably think it’s funny too, right?"

As Bena spoke, she was the first to scoff and shake her head, reminiscing about the time she had told this to Officer Henry and others, who looked at her as if she were insane.

Bena naturally believed her mother, despite everyone around her telling her that there were no monsters in the world, and that her parents had merely drowned.

Everyone said so, and even she was beginning to waver, but the man behind her probably wouldn’t believe her at all.

However, what Aaron said next was somewhat unexpected to her.

"This is not funny; I believe you."

Surprised, Bena turned her head.

"What did you say?"

Aaron, with a serious expression: "I believe what you said, Bena; don’t you remember? I mentioned what I do when we spoke on the phone."

"What I do...?"

Bena’s face showed a bit of confusion, and it was apparent that she had indeed forgotten.

Seeing this, Aaron couldn’t help but twitch the corners of his mouth and coughed to cover his embarrassment before he continued:

"I am a Demon Hunter, specializing in hunting down these filthy evil spirit monsters. I came here for no other reason than because you were once very certain when you told me that there was a monster here. So, I want to ask you again, are you sure that what you said is true?"

Upon hearing this, Bena finally couldn’t sit still any longer. She stood up, her gaze shifting toward the man in front of her, observing him formally for the first time.

Aaron was only two years older than Bena, slender in build and not looking robust; dressed in a trench coat jacket wrapped with several belts, he exuded a bit of a retro vibe.

Bena thought that if he were willing to work out and develop a strong muscular build, then this outfit might even possess a certain charm.

In fact, what attracted her the most about Aaron was his head of white hair.

Of course, this attraction was merely about drawing attention, not that she was mesmerized by that white hair or anything.

If Aaron knew her thoughts, he might feel a bit disappointed.

After all, he had specifically gone to the salon to dye his hair, trying to emulate a legendary Demon Hunter from his grandfather’s stories known as "White Wolf."

"You... are you really a Demon Hunter? You’re not lying to me, right...?"

Bena hesitated, now it was her turn to be somewhat incredulous.

"Of course, you can take a look at my equipment, all professional Demon Hunting tools. You can thoroughly trust me, I even have a badge here that can prove my identity."

"A badge?"

Bena was also intrigued by his words.

Seeing her reaction, Aaron became eager to show off, as opportunities like this were rare.

He proudly pulled out an ancient pocket watch from his clothes, opened the lid, and handed it to her.

"What is this?"

Bena took the pocket watch and examined it, only to see it engraved with a peculiar pattern.

It was an eye shedding a tear, the pupil of which seemed to be watching her, making her feel as if everything about her was being seen through.

If a member of the Star Alliance were here, they would definitely recognize that this eye bore a striking resemblance to the part of the insignia that represented the Tracker in the "Eye of the Starry Sky."

Bena felt that although the man named Aaron Griffin seemed a bit unreliable, the pocket watch truly looked convincing, which made her believe him a bit more.

Well, in fact, she had no other choice now.

The police couldn’t find any clues, and if she wanted to find the killer of her parents, she would have to rely, at least for now, on this self-proclaimed Demon Hunter.

"Aaron... may I call you that? I am very sorry; I was rude before because my parents left me, and I was somewhat unable to control my emotions. I hope you can forgive me..."

Bena had also recovered a bit from her initial lethargic state, and she appeared somewhat more lively.

She took two teacups from the kitchen, poured a cup of coffee for herself and Aaron, and continued:

"Regarding this matter, if you can help me find the culprit, whether it’s a person or a monster, I will give you a substantial reward as my thank you."

PS: I changed the woman’s name to Bena, the previous name made it sound too much like Lord Bear...
