Chapter 445: Chapter 326: Bizarre Cause of Death

The middle-aged woman, seeing Aaron’s earnest words and backed up by the help-seeking information published in the newspaper, believed what he said to the extent of seventy to eighty percent.

She took the newspaper and looked at it carefully again, noticing that it said in a very small font: Seeking help! My parents have disappeared! I know the monster is the culprit! Please, someone help me!

Below was attached a phone number and an address, indeed belonging to Morganstock Town.

However, the information ended there as the space was simply too small, allowing only for a few brief sentences.

"Well, it seems she really has run into trouble."

The middle-aged woman handed the newspaper back and then pointed in a direction, saying,

"Little Braun’s house is easy to find, right at the very center of our town, a red house. Just keep going east from here and look for the area with the most flowerpots outside."

After she finished speaking, she lowered her head and murmured, "Something did seem to happen at the Braun family recently, Chief Henry has been there several times already, so they’ve actually disappeared. But what does this have to do with a monster...?"

Aaron didn’t linger there but bid farewell to the woman and turned to leave.

Once outside on the street, the gentle sunshine beamed down on him, giving Aaron a warm feeling. Following the direction the landlady had pointed out, he quickly arrived at the center of the small town.

Just as the woman mentioned, the town center was easy to locate, with a large open space filled with flowerpots and water jars of various sizes, surrounded by a circle of residential buildings, including the red house she spoke of.

The front door of the red house faced the open space, which had several extra-large water jars placed on it, looking thick and sturdy; whether they were set out by this household was unknown.

Tomorrow was the Milk Festival, and many people had already filled their flowerpots with milk; the small plaza itself was entirely filled as well. They say that tonight everyone will gather for a grand celebration here.

After passing several large water jars, Aaron stepped onto the staircase and arrived in front of the small red house, extending his hand to press the doorbell.

"Ding-dong~ Ding-dong~"

A few rings later, Aaron waited outside for a moment, but no one came to open the door.

He furrowed his brow and pressed a few more times.

"Ding-dong~ Ding-dong~ Ding-dong~"

After a long while, the main door was still utterly still.

Aaron felt somewhat helpless and was thinking about whether to go back and look for another solution, but suddenly the tightly closed main door opened.

"Oh? Hello, are you Bena Braun? I’m Aaron Griffin, we spoke over the phone before."

The woman who opened the door was a Caucasian female in her mid-twenties. She was very beautiful; at least to Aaron’s aesthetic, she was definitely a very attractive woman.

But the woman’s current state was quite poor.

Her hair was unkempt, her eyes dull and lifeless, devoid of any vitality. Looking at Aaron, it seemed as if her mind wasn’t even in her body, her entire demeanor was utterly spiritless.

"Are you Aaron?"

Bena spoke, her voice pleasant to hear, but now it held little strength, and her tone sounded very desolate.

"Er... Yes, that’s me, we spoke over the phone..."

"Come in."

The woman didn’t wait for him to finish and turned away stiffly, leaving Aaron standing there alone, still somewhat bewildered.

Coming to his senses, Aaron quickly shut the door and followed her inside, arriving in the living room of Bena’s house.

This was the main hall on the first floor, and Bena was now sitting on the sofa, staring blankly at the television screen that flickered with static.

At her feet lay a multitude of beer bottles, clearly indicating that this young lady had not been happy at home these past few days.

Aaron felt that the script he was holding today seemed a little different from what he had imagined.

As a Demon Hunter, even if his clients weren’t begging for his help, he shouldn’t be receiving such a cold reception.

From the stories he had heard from his grandfather, wasn’t every Demon Hunter supposed to maintain an air of mystery before finally making a bold move at a critical moment?

Why was it that when it came to him, there was always a feeling of being eagerly ignored?

He looked at the woman lying on the sofa in a drunken stupor and noticed the phone with a shattered screen on the floor, beginning to understand why he had been unable to reach her.

Well, considering your parents have disappeared, I suppose your current state is somewhat understandable, so I won’t hold it against you.

Aaron gave himself an excuse to step down, then walked over to Bena on the sofa, deciding to inquire about the details of the situation.

"They’re all dead..."

At that moment, Bena suddenly spoke up, her voice filled with desolation, as if she was speaking to herself, yet also to the man behind her.

"Dead... Ah? How could..."

Aaron also snapped back to reality and was taken aback, not immediately knowing what to say.

"The police found their bodies in the water vat at the front door of my house, mixed with the milk..."

Bena opened another bottle of beer and took a big gulp. She wasn’t usually a drinker, but now, unable to bear the pain of losing her relatives, she had been drowning her sorrows for several days.

"The police said they died from drowning, and suggested it might have been because they were drunk at the time. They accidentally fell in while trying to pour milk into the vat and that led to their drowning."

Bena laughed scornfully as she continued,

"How could such a thing happen? My parents disappeared five days ago; who would pour milk into the vat five days in advance? It’s obvious that the milk was added later!"

Aaron listened and also felt something was amiss.

"So, is there a surveillance camera at the front door of your house? And why are you so certain that it was a monster that did this?"

Bena kept drinking, and without turning her head, said:

"No surveillance. Here in the town, everyone knows each other, so few people bother installing cameras. The police are still investigating this case, but I don’t think they really care about the life or death of my parents! They tell me it might have been an accident and to prepare myself mentally, they’re just brushing it off!"

Bena’s emotions surged as she spoke.

She violently threw the beer bottle in her hand, which hit the wall with a crisp sound, did not break, but just rolled twice on the floor, spilling the remaining liquid all over.

Aaron glanced at the several beer bottles lying scattered around and asked his question again:

"Miss Bena, can you tell me why you are so certain that the killer is a monster? Remember, you told me over the phone that this matter was definitely related to a monster."
