World-saving Plan: The Only Savior -
Chapter 442 - 323: Poison Liquid Worm
Chapter 442: Chapter 323: Poison Liquid Worm
The Desert Worm’s carapace was extremely hard, with certain areas on its body possessing astonishing defensive power. Bullets striking these areas only managed to penetrate the thinnest outer layer.
However, the humans held a significant numerical advantage. There were more than twenty people, while there were only seven Desert Worms.
Although several humans were killed in a surprise attack by the monsters at the start, the rest seized the opportunity to raise their guns and fire, quickly suppressing these creatures.
Bullets flew like torrential rain, striking the Insects’ carapaces. Even though their strong defensive power could withstand a portion of the onslaught, some bullets hit vital areas like the head and joints, causing the Desert Worms to howl incessantly.
Green blood splattered as, under the overwhelming firepower of the group, the Insects fell one after another.
Though their Life Force was incredibly tenacious, they ultimately were not like the Demon Series and Calamity Species monsters, which possessed an Undying Constitution. Facing the formidable Killing Power of modern weapons, complete disregard was impossible.
Of course, this was also largely related to the difference in numbers between the two sides.
And even so, those Insects, relying on their strong Life Force and Swift speed, still launched a Charge through the barrage of bullets, taking a few humans down with them in their dying moments.
"Watch out for Hand Grenades!"
"Bang!!"
Following an explosion, the last Insect was also taken down. Green blood and insect bodies sprayed over several nearby people, dyeing their heads green.
However, these few fellows had no inclination to fuss over this right now. They looked at the scene of the battle that had just ended and couldn’t help but feel a surge of intense relief and a sense of fortunate survival in their hearts.
"Sav... Save me..."
Several weak cries for help sounded on the field, immediately drawing the attention of the others back.
Looking at the several companions who had been injured in the battle, John immediately rushed over, picked up one person, and shouted to the others:
"What are you all waiting for! Save them quickly! Where’s the medical corpsman?"
Everyone silently watched him. Beside them, Kando, covered in green blood, spoke up.
"Commander, he is the medical corpsman..."
"What!?"
John was startled, and then turned to look at the man’s face, wiping the green liquid from his head to recognize him.
"Charles!? Damn it! How can it be you!"
John was initially panicked, and with Charles’s face covered in blood, he hadn’t recognized him.
"Com... Commander... I’m done for. Just... just go check on the others. A shot of anaesthetic for me will do..."
John was alarmed at his words, and upon noticing the horrific wounds on him, he couldn’t help but shout:
"No way! Charles, I can’t give up on you! Hang in there! I’ll get..."
He was about to reach for a packet of emergency medicine powder in his pocket when the situation on the field suddenly changed.
Beneath them, the ground broke apart, dirt flying everywhere. A huge figure burst forth, grabbing them in one swoop.
"Ahh!"
John screamed as his thigh was pierced by the Insect’s slender arm. He was suspended upside down in the air, his face showing immense pain.
This Insect, suddenly emerging from the underground, was enormous, standing at nearly three meters tall.
Unlike the previous Insects, it walked upright. Its two short lower limbs seemed to lack strength, its body supported entirely by the thick tail behind it.
The Insect’s arms were two long spikes, now piercing through John and Charles, one in each. Its triangular head looked from side to side, as if choosing, and finally set its sights on John, biting down on him.
"Ah!"
John winced in pain, letting out another agonizing scream.
The monster bit into his other leg, and a piercing pain instantly spread throughout his body, contorting his face in agony.
"Hurry! Stop worrying about me and shoot!"
John roared furiously, and several teammates, who hesitated, clenched their teeth and then pulled the trigger.
"Da Da Da~"
With the burst of gunfire, streaks of green blood exploded from the monster’s body.
The monster, having been hit, was enraged and, astonishingly, let go of John and retaliated against the few who had attacked it.
It leaned back slightly and then lunged forward suddenly, spewing a jet of emerald Poison Liquid from its mouth straight at one of the closest men.
This man was still aiming at the monster with his gun, trying to take it down without harming a comrade, not realizing that the Insect was not only large but also capable of attacking from a distance, and was immediately hit by the Poison Liquid.
"Sizzle~~"
A strange sound, reminiscent of a steak sizzling on a hot plate or perhaps the reaction of certain chemicals, made listeners’ teeth involuntarily tingle.
The unfortunate fellow’s head and neck were hit by the Poison Liquid, and he couldn’t even scream as his flesh was instantly corroded; his body wobbled before collapsing.
Seeing this, the others panicked and retreated to find cover.
Although the monster did not fire its Poison Liquid frequently, the projectile’s speed was so fast that people had no time to dodge; several more were struck and fell to the ground.
Fortunately, they were not hit in vital areas and, although they might need amputations later on, that was still better than dying immediately, wasn’t it?
In a short time, this new huge monster single-handedly overwhelmed more than a dozen humans present; although it was hit by numerous bullets, its strong constitution seemed to ignore the wounds.
"You beast... have you forgotten... about me..."
At that moment, a feeble voice sounded—it was Charles, still dangling from the monster’s grasp.
Using all his strength, Charles fumbled a high-explosive Hand Grenade from his pocket and without hesitation pulled the pin.
"John! Tell Kashan I won’t be coming back!"
His gaze fixed on John, who had been flung aside by the monster, Charles summoned strength from nowhere, letting out a roar and struggling to lift his hand, pressing the grenade against the monster’s body.
"Insect! Come with me to Hell!"
Charles’ eyes were fierce as he let out his final roar.
"Boom!"
A massive explosion resounded, and smoke and dust billowed, as everyone ducked to avoid flying debris.
"Hiss~Roar!!"
Before the dust had settled, an enraged roar sounded from within the smog, causing everyone present to be struck with terror.
Charles had sacrificed himself, detonating a grenade at such close range, yet still had failed to take down the monster.
"No, it can’t be... how could this happen..."
Someone unable to bear the shock murmured in disbelief.
In the end, as the dust cleared, the monster’s body reappeared. It now had a huge hole in its stomach, and its green innards were oozing blood, the creature barely standing, supported only by its tail.
