Chapter 439: Chapter 321 Power Outage?

Before the incident, it was about 8 p.m. local time.

John was in his tent at the time, happily eating hot pot and singing songs.

This delicacy from Eastern Huaxia was always one of his favorites, and even after getting here, he would prepare some ingredients to enjoy a simple hot pot to satisfy his cravings.

However, just as he finished preparing the broth and was ready to enjoy it, the entire campsite suddenly went dark, and the hot pot he had just set up had to be put on hold.

Was it an electrical fault?

That was John’s first reaction.

Often out on missions, he was no stranger to such problems with electrical circuits—it was all too common.

After all, temporary setups like this one were prone to short circuits, which was nothing out of the ordinary.

John immediately put down his utensils and loudly called over William, the squad’s engineer.

Though young, William had been on more than two missions and was quite familiar with power outages; they should have been easy for him to handle.

However, what frustrated him this time was that not only was there a fault in the circuit, but devices such as flashlights and night vision goggles also failed to work.

This discovery made his heart skip a beat, as he was all too familiar with such situations.

He could not forget the large area of sea they had crossed to get to this island, where all electronic devices had been paralyzed, and they could only pass through using sailboats.

Although he had a hunch, William couldn’t just give up; he still had to try.

Even though it was pitch black, making it difficult to see barely anything, he was the only engineer in the team—who else could do the job if not him?

Groping his way to where he remembered the generator was placed, William checked the nearby equipment by feel.

Unable to see, he had to slow down and be careful, which made the process take much longer.

"William, is it working? Why hasn’t there been any response for so long? Have you found something?"

John’s voice rose again nearby. If he was asking this, it also meant he was aware of something but didn’t dare to be certain just yet.

Or maybe, he just wasn’t willing to believe it at the moment.

"Yes, Commander, I think you might have noticed too. This doesn’t seem like a normal circuit fault, but rather, like the situation on the outskirts of the island, this place has also been enveloped by that chaotic magnetic field..."

"Damn it!"

Upon hearing this, John harshly slapped the generator next to him, then without saying another word, headed back to his tent, guided by memory.

"Damn it! I knew it! There’s definitely something extraordinary inside that barrier! They must be aliens, they’ve discovered us, and now they’re taking measures!"

As John spoke, he began to test the various items in his tent one by one.

This included a communicator, phone, watch, flashlight, night vision device, and other things, both military and civilian. In the end, they all shared the same fate: they were completely paralyzed.

"Fuck!!"

John tossed aside the mechanical watch in his hand.

The watch his wife had given him was from a world-famous brand, with serene purely mechanical parts, and also equipped with a magnetic kinetic energy device. Yet now, it too was completely inoperable.

Holding onto a last hope, he pulled out a military compass and left the tent to head outside. In the faint moonlight, he observed its condition.

Sure enough, the erratic behavior of the compass needle painfully confirmed the harsh reality—the magnetic field here had been disturbed.

John stood frozen in front of the tent, his eyes involuntarily scanning over the entire campsite, momentarily at a loss for what to do.

Now, all the equipment had already stopped working, and the communicator in the tent behind me had also become paralyzed, unable to report my situation to the seaside base.

About 10 meters ahead should be Kando’s tent, right? I wonder what those guys are feeling now, and what they are doing?

Those two speedboats sitting by the damn lake shore must be unusable as well.

On the open ground to the east of my camp, several helicopters that came for support won’t be taking off anytime soon, and it’s likely they might just have to stay here, right?

It seemed as though things had suddenly fallen into the worst possible state.

John felt that coming here was simply the worst decision he had ever made.

Ever since he arrived, it seemed as though everything started to go wrong.

First, there was the encounter with the monster in the lake, then inexplicably, several team members were lost.

Then there was the helicopter that came for support, which suddenly crashed into that damn barrier.

Now, even his own camp was ruined, all equipment, vehicles, and aircraft were inoperable, and now even the thought of evacuation had become a luxury.

Looking at the lake surface nearby, shimmering with light, what used to be a beautiful natural scene, appeared incredibly eerie in John’s eyes.

It was as if behind that stretch of lake, a pair of eyes were watching him, waiting to devour him in the darkness.

At this thought, John couldn’t help but shudder, and a gust of cold wind brought him back from his chaotic thoughts.

"No! It’s dangerous here! We must leave immediately! This magnetic chaos is likely the result of the unknown entity inside the barrier, this is an attack! They will definitely come for us! We have to go now!"

Just as this thought crossed his mind, a burst of gunfire suddenly came from not too far away, the sound of the R479 special modification was all too familiar to him.

"It’s Jack’s team!"

John immediately ran towards the direction of the gunfire, stumbling a few times along the way, but he dared not stop, and swiftly made it to the other end of the camp.

"Tom! Is that you! What happened!?"

John had not yet arrived when his distinctive somewhat hoarse roar had already reached there first.

"Commander? It’s... it’s me..."

A black guy in black clothes stood there speaking; had it not been for his mouthful of white teeth, John might have run right into him.

"What the hell happened! Why did you suddenly start shooting!?"

"Commander, it’s okay, it was just a misunderstanding," Tom said.

Suddenly, a voice came from the side that made John jump.

He quickly turned his head to look beside him, and there stood another black man in black clothes. It was Jerry, Tom’s brother.

"Jerry? You’re here too? What do you mean by misunderstanding?"

"It was a bird... A bird just flew over there and dropped its droppings on Tom... He thought it was an enemy from inside the barrier, so he fired," Jerry explained.

John was stunned, not expecting such a situation, and immediately heaved a sigh of relief. Then, he immediately glared at the two men, angrily saying:

"Tom, Jerry! The two of you, from now on when you’re out on missions, are forbidden from carrying black clothing in your personal items!"

"???"

The two black guys didn’t understand and showed a full face of question marks.
