Chapter 430: Chapter 312 The Fake Eye of the Starry Sky
Zhang Xiaoman was startled by Brother Hero’s sudden statement. An incident? What incident? Could it be that someone encountered a monster and was attacked?
His first thought was naturally about the Alien Species, since Star Alliance members share a collective awareness, making them more likely to be targeted.
"What’s wrong? What exactly happened, where are you right now?"
He immediately asked.
On the other end, Brother Hero’s voice followed, tinged with a hint of urgency:
"I’m over here at Midak, Brother Man, you need to check the internet quickly, our symbol is up there, it’s the Eye of the Starry Sky!"
Zhang Xiaoman was even more confused by what he said. The Eye of the Starry Sky on the internet? What did he mean? Could it be that the Star Alliance had been exposed?
He immediately turned off his wristwatch, then activated his Unlimited Teleportation Ability and teleported directly beside Brother Hero.
"Brother Man? You’re here. Hurry, take a look at this!"
Brother Hero, hearing movement in front of him, looked up and saw Zhang Xiaoman. He immediately beckoned him over to look at the computer screen.
He was by now accustomed to his good brother’s ability to appear and disappear out of thin air and the extraordinary means, having witnessed the teleportation more than once, so he wasn’t overly surprised.
Zhang Xiaoman walked over, also taking a moment to survey the surroundings.
This was an office. At one end of the office was a large floor-to-ceiling window in front of which was the desk Brother Hero used for work.
It was already dark outside; this was an office building in Los Angeles, America, where Brother Hero was currently managing the Midak Building Materials Industry.
He walked around the desk to the computer, and Brother Hero moved aside to let him sit down.
Zhang Xiaoman waved his hand and then looked towards the other’s screen.
Displayed in the center of the screen was a gigantic seven-pointed star icon that filled the entire page. In its center, there was a shield and an eye—this was unmistakably the Star Alliance’s symbol—the Eye of the Starry Sky.
"What’s going on here? Where did you see this?"
Zhang Xiaoman furrowed his brow, his gaze fixed on the pattern on the screen.
"The internet! It’s the internet! This is YouTube’s video website. I don’t know what happened; when I refreshed it just turned into this."
As he spoke, he changed to another website and continued:
"Look here, this is Twitter. The same thing, our symbol is posted. I tried it, and other websites are the same... Brother Man, what’s going on? Could it be that my computer was hacked?"
Zhang Xiaoman was pondering when his wristwatch rang again. He looked and saw a call from Mom.
After communicating with her for a bit, he realized that it wasn’t just Brother Hero’s problem; even at his mother’s place, the same situation had occurred.
Moreover, not only American websites, but all non-official popular media sites around the world had simultaneously posted the Star Alliance’s symbol!
Clearly, the issue wasn’t with Brother Hero’s computer; instead, the backends of major websites had been hacked!
In an instant, Zhang Xiaoman felt his heartbeat quicken. It was easy to imagine that faced with this situation, by the next day, the symbol of the Star Alliance would enter everyone’s field of view.
No, more accurately, the whole world probably already knew about it...
"Who did this?"
Zhang Xiaoman looked uneasy, with a trace of confusion.
He recalled the members within his organization but did not identify anyone skilled in computing.
Besides, hacking so many popular media homepages around the world simultaneously would surely require more than just expertise, right?
"It shouldn’t be one of our own..."
He looked at the symbol on the screen and suddenly noticed something was off.
"Huh? This icon, it doesn’t seem to be the Eye of the Starry Sky...?"
A look of confusion emerged on Zhang Xiaoman’s face. His attention had been focused on the spreading of the image and he hadn’t yet noticed the details inside it.
Now that he was paying attention, he found that the symbol on the image, while broadly similar in layout to the Star Alliance’s Eye of the Starry Sky, still had many different details.
He activated his wristwatch again, projected the Star Alliance’s symbol, and compared it with the one on the screen, finding indeed that they were different.
"No, this shouldn’t have been done by one of us. It’s different from the Eye of the Starry Sky. Look here..."
Zhang Xiaoman pointed at the computer screen and said:
"The positions and number of leaves on the vines are wrong; the location of the forest is off, and the color of the trees are darker; there is a teardrop in the middle of the Eye of Truth, it doesn’t have one; the pattern on the shield is also incorrect... this isn’t the Eye of the Starry Sky. It’s a counterfeit."
Brother Hero leaned in closely to take a detailed look, and his eyes lit up even more.
"Right, this thing is a knockoff! Damn it, it scared me for nothing!"
Zhang Xiaoman shook his head and said, "Even if it’s a knockoff, we can’t take it lightly. This means someone is paying attention to us, and it seems that the person is a powerful hacker..."
As he spoke, a scene suddenly flashed through his mind. It was during his time at Wencheen Manor when a group of young men and women, all fond of adventure, were there, among them, a slightly overweight boy who excitedly expressed his desire to join the Star Alliance.
"A hacker, a hacker... Oh man, didn’t that guy say he was a hacker?"
Zhang Xiaoman’s memories rose to the surface. He hadn’t taken this to heart, and with a month having passed, it took him a moment to recall.
He vaguely remembered the boy mentioning that he was the world’s third-ranked top hacker. If what he said was true, then this all started making sense... Right, what was that boy’s name?
Zhang Xiaoman shook his head, deciding not to get tangled up in those thoughts for now.
He knew that this person must have seen the Star Alliance’s symbol because Lin Sisi was wearing the Daring Clothes at the time, which displayed the pattern of the Eye of the Starry Sky.
"But why would he do this...?"
Memories whirled fast in his mind when suddenly, Zhang Xiaoman remembered saying something to the boy:
"I can give you this opportunity. Show me that everything you said is true. Come back here after a month..."
With that thought, he had an epiphany.
That’s right! This explanation made sense! This whole thing might have been done by that kid!
His expression odd, if this was really the case, then he had to admit, that guy was quite the simpleton!
