Chapter 420: Chapter 303 Settling Pei Laoliu (Two in One)
The old town was very quiet in the afternoon, with every household shutting their doors, people huddled in their own little rooms, enjoying the rare break.
The sun poured down, making the quilt hanging in the yard warm and toasty, and it even had a unique scent—rumor had it that this was what roasting mites smelled like.
Such a day, with large temperature differences between morning and evening, was characteristic of autumn. Coupled with the dry air and a series of other reasons, it also made this season one where colds were common.
"Achoo!"
Pei Laoliu sneezed, put down his bowl and chopsticks, rubbed his nose with his hand, and muttered softly,
"Don’t know who’s thinking of me, surely those guys outside haven’t left yet?"
Zhang Xiaoman pushed open the door and walked in from the courtyard; he had just gone out to toss his and Master Liu’s leftover bones to Xiao Tian, and took the opportunity to check the situation outside. Seeing that there was no excitement to be had, everyone had left on their own.
"Everyone’s already gone, don’t worry."
He said, sitting down with a plop and scraping the last bite of rice from his bowl.
"Xiao Tian didn’t eat it, just licked it a couple of times."
Hearing this, Pei Laoliu sighed, "I know, Xiao Tian is getting older and can’t handle the bones anymore. Later I’ll mix some leftover rice for it to eat. It prefers that nowadays."
Zhang Xiaoman nodded, but his mind was on the Osmanthus Pills he had just drawn.
According to the System, the stuff could directly add to a Spiritual Beast’s lifespan.
One pill for one year, simple and brutal. Maybe he could give one to Xiao Tian to try out later and see if it really worked.
But he couldn’t just use it right now; he had to wait until after the Upgrade, when he had the authority to make purchases in the marketplace.
After helping to clean up the table and washing the bowls, Zhang Xiaoman was somewhat distracted.
He had originally just come over to have dinner with Sixth Master and catch up, but he hadn’t expected to encounter such an incident.
Although in the end, his involvement ensured the video wouldn’t be spread, the people who had seen Master Liu had already seen him; that couldn’t be undone.
After all, the Shadow Lord could only block tracking from others, not erase memories.
So, in the future, the Sixth Master’s House might well see some visitors, and there would undoubtedly be some trouble.
"What’s on your mind?"
Pei Laoliu noticed this and immediately understood the kid was troubled.
Zhang Xiaoman looked at him, about to speak, when Master Liu said first,
"You’re worried about today’s incident, aren’t you? Afraid that someone will come to trouble me again? Hey, there’s really nothing to worry about. Haven’t I been roaming the Martial World all these years? Like I’d fear them?"
"Besides, that guy was so scared when he left today that I reckon he wouldn’t dare come back. At most, some neighbors from the streets might come by to visit me. That’s good too, it saves me from being too lonely at home. It’s nice to have some buzz."
Pei Laoliu tidied up the chairs and sat back on the bed, taking small puffs from his cigarette and saying,
"Actually, I thought at first that they had come to compete in Taoist Skill with me, since their contest was interrupted at the last Cultivation convention. But it turned out they were after something else..."
"No wonder these days when I exercised in the park, there were always people bouncing around near me. I thought they were trying to swindle money from me at first, but it seems they were preparing for today."
Zhang Xiaoman chuckled, his gaze settling on the bookshelf in Sixth Master’s House that he had affixed with the Star Alliance Marker, and after a long contemplation, he started speaking with a very serious tone,
"Master Liu, you saw today, regarding some Special Abilities I have, I know you must be curious. But I can’t tell you about it, and there’s a reason for that."
He turned around to face Master Liu.
"Do you remember that face you saw in the Fat Fish Villa District last time?"
Pei Laoliu paused, his memory flying back to that strange event from more than two months ago.
Just thinking about that scene made him break out in goosebumps. He had retired from hunting monsters for that very reason—how could he possibly forget?
Seeing his reaction, Zhang Xiaoman knew and continued,
"The reason I haven’t told you the truth is that once you know too much, you’re likely to encounter them again..."
Pei Laoliu’s eyes widened, and then he quickly gestured with his hands, "Alright, alright, then don’t tell me. I don’t want to run into that thing again."
After a moment of silence, he spoke again uncertainly, "So, Xiao Man, aren’t you... since knowing too much makes it easy to encounter them, doesn’t that mean you...?"
Zhang Xiaoman nodded, "That’s right, I’m currently Hunting them."
Pei Laoliu thought for a moment, then realized, "So, kiddo, you became a Taoist too, huh!"
Zhang Xiaoman’s expression darkened, "What do you mean ’became a Taoist’? My goal is so noble, how did that turn into becoming a Taoist when it comes to you, Master Liu? We’re not even talking about the same thing."
But he couldn’t go into detail with Master Liu about what Alien Species were, what monsters were; otherwise, he might as well be dragging him straight into the mess.
"Well, if that’s how you understand it, that’s fine. But that’s not the point."
Zhang Xiaoman first brushed past the subject, and then suddenly asked, "So, Master Liu, do you want to move? Or live somewhere else?"
