Chapter 405: Chapter 289: John’s Beautiful Dream

Fortunately for the Star Alliance, their base was located on an island in the middle of Seven-star Lake, a natural colossal barrier. As long as they did not just happen to come from the point near Goddess Peak, it was unlikely they would be discovered so soon.

After quickly dealing with the Iron Head Fish that had entered the Restricted Area, Zhang Xiaoman then returned to Inheritance Land on the Dawn, where there were still some matters awaiting his attention.

...

Elsewhere, in a temporary camp at the upper right corner of Seven-star Lake, a group of men dressed in combat suits were setting up facilities. They were the American team here for exploration, the Sea Lion Reconnaissance Team, known for their rich amphibious combat experience.

In one of the tents, a middle-aged Caucasian man with a bearded face was intently looking at a map on the table. It was the result of their efforts over the past few days, including their route, terrain, and even temperature, climate, and humidity—a detailed collection of various elements.

"Huh? This area is relatively low-lying, with higher air pressure, the air density should be higher. Why is the wind density so low? Who was responsible for measuring and mapping this? How could such a low-level mistake be made?"

The man furrowed his brow, clearly dissatisfied with what he saw.

"Humph, it looks like someone is yearning to taste the training from Hell."

A cold smile appeared on his face as he envisioned the unfortunate individual in his mind.

This person was none other than the commander responsible for this deep exploration mission, John Warwick.

John Warwick was a veteran special forces soldier who had participated in seven combat missions and experienced 15 different environments, endowed with extensive experience.

Indeed, even elite soldiers like Lord Bear and Wu Feng could not compare to him purely in terms of experience and seniority.

Now, although John had reached middle age, his past record qualified him to serve as the commander within the Sea Lion Reconnaissance Team, specifically in charge of training newcomers and tactical command.

Having received the latest mobilization order from back home, he led a group of rookies into the exploration of this mysterious island.

The task assigned to him by the base was to delve into exploration, draw maps, and set up signal stations, or, as they would call it in gaming terms—scouting like a pioneer opening the map.

Well, John himself didn’t refer to it that way. In his words, he was the spearhead of the entire base, always the first to charge and a true hero.

In the morning, when they had arrived at the lake to set up camp, someone suddenly spotted an unidentified creature on the lake not far away, which immediately thrilled him.

After all, among the orders he had received was one to bring back various creatures found.

Of course, the creatures mentioned did not refer to the ones commonly seen on Water Blue Star, but rather the strange monsters that had been mysteriously appearing all over America recently.

Capturing any one of them and bringing it back would be a significant accomplishment for him.

And now, just one more opportunity, and he could advance another level. Then, things like his pension would see a hefty increase.

So, upon discovering the existence of the monster in the lake, John immediately dispatched a combat team without any hesitation, hoping they might find and capture the creature.

"Damn potatoes, taking so long to complete a mission. If it weren’t for the military needing more hands to explore this island, how could those mercenaries have had the chance to join my troops?"

John couldn’t help feeling irritated whenever he thought of the batch of newcomers suddenly added to his team.

It must be said, this batch of newcomers was the worst he had ever trained.

While his thoughts were scattering, a soldier suddenly burst into the tent, and before he could ask, the soldier gasped:

"Commander, Kando is back, by the lake... I think you should have a look..."

John glanced at the young man. This guy was a soldier he had personally mentored, unlike those temporarily recruited mercenaries. He was a fine seed selected from the American military, possessing absolute loyalty and will.

However, what was going on with him now? This panicked appearance was not becoming of a special forces member.

Had he forgotten all the things I taught him? As an elite soldier, the most fundamental quality one must have is to remain calm in the face of danger!

Thinking of this, he looked disapprovingly at the young warrior and began to contemplate whether to increase his training today to improve his memory.

"Stephen, watch your status."

The young man was slightly stunned upon hearing this but quickly regained his composure, thinking to himself, "The instructor truly is an instructor; his calmness is something I can’t learn."

Immediately, he stood at attention and after adjusting his tone, spoke with a robust voice, "Commander! Captain Kando, who was out on a mission, has returned. He’s now by the lake and needs you to confirm the situation!"

"Hmm, not bad."

John saw his demeanor and nodded satisfactorily, while also feeling a hint of elation, "Waiting by the lake for me, it seems there is a gain."

Kando, that man, truly deserves to be one of my soldiers; even leading such a ragtag group, he managed to complete the mission successfully.

"I understand, I’ll be there shortly. Oh, did they capture or kill this time?"

Standing by, the young warrior was startled upon hearing these words.

Capture? Kill? What is Boss talking about, why can’t I understand?

Yet he subconsciously corrected John on what he had just said.

"Commander! It’s not ’they’, it’s ’him’!"

"Him?"

John was also a bit slow to react.

"Yes, ’him’! Kando has come back alone; he’s right there by the lake. The medics are currently trying to save him!"

"Trying to save him?"

The battle-hardened old warrior subconsciously repeated his words, then suddenly came to.

"Trying to save him! Did you say he is being saved!?"

John leaped up from his chair, unable to maintain his composure any longer, a dreadful thought surfacing in his mind.

"Stephen, you fool, are you joking with me!?"

The young warrior was grabbed by the collar, and he was somewhat petrified.

"No, no, sir."

John was furious.

"Shit! Why didn’t you say something so important earlier!"

"I, I..."

"Damn it! What are you standing there for! Hurry up and take me there!"

John’s hopes were shattered, and in desperate haste, he grabbed the young warrior and rushed out of the tent.
