Chapter 401: Chapter 285: Creatures at the Bottom of the Lake

The muzzle spat out flames, and immediately a series of waves spattered on the blood-stained surface of the lake.

"Ahhh!"

Matt’s eyes were bloodshot as he pulled the trigger furiously, as if he wanted to tear apart the murderer of his brother.

"Stop it! Matt!"

The captain shouted anxiously, turned around, and pressed a hand on the other’s shoulder, trying to calm him down first.

However, Matt was already filled with hatred; the person who had just been dragged down was his brother, Andrew.

Andrew was the only family Matt had left in this world; not long ago, they had been bounty hunters on some battlefield in Africa, earning commissions by taking on missions.

Latterly, for some special reasons, they had been officially recruited by the American authorities into the Sea Lion Reconnaissance Team and, after barely a month of getting used to each other, they had been dispatched to this strange island for their first mission.

Yet, who could have thought that this very first mission would cost him his only kin?

"Matt! Stop it! If you keep this up, you’ll damage the drone! And besides, if Andrew is still alive, wouldn’t your actions endanger him further?"

The captain’s roar came again, this time it seemed to take effect as Matt slowly calmed down from his rage.

He lowered the muzzle slightly and turned to glance at the captain, his tone still laced with lingering anger:

"Kando, I swear I will kill it."

Kando looked back at him as well but said nothing, turning his head to inquire of someone nearby: "Sam, what have you found, any discoveries?"

The man he addressed was a white male who appeared to be the youngest among them; he was currently intently examining a device set in front of him.

This device was the controller for the drone; although it appeared somewhat large, that was because it was fitted with an independent wireless signal transmitter internally.

In an environment without satellites, it could control the drone over short distances; even underwater, the control range could exceed twenty meters, which was adequate for dealing with small lakes.

However, the vast expanse of Seven-star Lake was clearly not as uncomplicated as they had initially envisioned—it was nearly at the maximum range of the drone’s signal, yet the screen showed no anomalies, not even the lakebed could be seen.

"Thump..."

Underwater, the diving drone was bumped, and the young white man saw the screen shake as a gigantic Black Shadow flitted past and then lost its trace.

"What was that!"

The young man blurted out subconsciously; his expression was one of immense surprise. Although it was just a fleeting glimpse, the size of the monster underwater had truly startled him.

"What happened?"

The captain hurried over to inquire about the situation.

The young man’s face was quite unsightly; he swallowed hard, stammering:

"Captain... I think we’d better leave here... I think I just saw it, much larger than when we saw it from the shore; if we keep staying here, it will be very dangerous..."

As soon as he said this, naturally, there were people who disagreed.

"Quinn, damn it, say it again if you dare! Do you want Andrew to have died in vain!!"

The young man, thus confronted, clearly had a hard time maintaining his composure but before he could retort, a cry of agony suddenly rang in his ears.

A teammate who had been standing on guard at the side of the boat was suddenly gripped by a slender tentacle and dragged directly into the water.

Faced with the sudden turn of events, the team was taken aback, and it wasn’t until the man had completely fallen into the water that they finally reacted.

There was nothing they could do; it wasn’t that they were dull, but the opponent’s speed was simply too fast.

So fast that they didn’t even have a chance to react.

"Damn it, this won’t do! Everyone, fall back! Gather in the middle of the boat!" Kando shouted anxiously, his face full of urgency.

"Whoosh!"

At that moment, another tentacle probed out, heading straight for the person closest to the water, with still no time to react; the two people were almost instantly pulled into the water.

The surface of the water began to turn a deep red as the remaining few bore incredibly ugly expressions. They hadn’t anticipated that the creature beneath was so terrifying, and battling it in these conditions was truly a life-and-death struggle.

"I see it!"

In the middle of the boat, the young man who had been operating the drone suddenly shouted and then pressed a button. The underwater drone immediately launched a glowing projectile.

This projectile wasn’t meant to kill; its purpose was to tag.

After it attached to the huge being, the people on the boat were suddenly able to spot a lazy glow beneath the water through the surface.

The glow had great penetration, making it barely visible to those above even in the depths of twenty or thirty meters.

However, this was the limit. If the monster sank any further, even the underwater tag would become ineffective.

The drone had also completed its final mission; amid a flurry of shaky images, it lost signal — seemingly dismantled by the unknown creature.

"Fire! Kill it!"

The captain no longer hesitated and immediately issued the order for a full attack.

For a while, the sound of gunfire was relentless, and it was clear that everyone was holding back rage mixed with fear, which added to their panic.

"You beast! Give me my brother’s life back!!"

Matt’s eyes were bloodshot as he stood at the edge of the boat, spraying bullets furiously.

His gun barrel constantly followed the blue tag, but the target was too far below the surface, and the attack seemed to have no effect.

Clearly, the group’s assault had enraged the monster as well.

The blue spot underwater suddenly accelerated, reaching them in just a breath’s time and fiercely slammed into the speedboat’s underside.

"Bang!"

A muffled sound was followed by everyone losing their balance in the rocking, with one person even falling overboard.

"Quick, go! Get out of here!"

The captain screamed at Jason, the black man in charge of piloting the speedboat.

Jason didn’t need reminding and immediately started the boat, pushing the speed to its maximum.

But the monster from the depths clearly didn’t intend to let them escape just like that and immediately sped after them.

Then, a terrifying scene ensued that filled everyone with dread.

Despite the speedboat accelerating beyond 120 kilometers per hour, it couldn’t shake off the monster. Instead, it was overtaken in an instant; the creature’s speed was inconceivably fast.

Water splashed violently, and then, a colossal figure leaped out from below, heading straight for the people frantically trying to escape.
