Chapter 389: Chapter 273: The Snail Spare Plan

This snail doesn’t just have super strong survival abilities, even its appearance is quite peculiar.

To say nothing of its adult-like stature, ordinary snails usually have two pairs of antennae, large and small, but this creature is completely different.

Zhang Xiaoman had clearly seen just now that there were no antennae on top of its head, instead on its long eyestalks, there were two round, bead-like eyes.

These eyes, like those of a human, possess the ability to see.

If you disregard its alien species identity, this guy actually looks unexpectedly cute.

Waving his hand to bring the snail to the center of the Original Realm, with a thought from Zhang Xiaoman, a strong pressure suddenly acted upon its back.

"Crack~"

A slight noise transmitted, and as expected, the snail shell cracked under this attack.

With controlled force, Zhang Xiaoman effortlessly, within a mere thought, had already shattered a large piece of the creature’s shell.

"Hehe, what does it matter if your defensive power is high? Inside the Original Realm, you’re still at my mercy to be flattened and twisted as I please."

Zhang Xiaoman was now delighted, he could finally deal with this snail.

On the other side, after suffering such an attack, the snail still showed no intention of coming out, just trembling slightly a few times, keeping its head locked inside its shell, perfectly playing the role of a shrinking turtle.

Oh no, to be more accurate, a shrinking snail.

However, it was during the moment of Zhang Xiaoman’s pause that the cracks on the snail shell had already begun to heal, soon restored to its original state.

"Eh? Is this creature’s healing ability so exaggerated? But now in the Original Realm, even a fast recovery is useless."

Zhang Xiaoman was not boasting. Although this space didn’t yet support his use of full authority, having enough power to kill this snail was still well within his grasp.

Raising his hand and pointing at the creature from afar, Zhang Xiaoman was ready to initiate an attack, but halfway through his movement, he suddenly stopped.

Now, the snail had undoubtedly become an easy prey, and those few dozen points were his for the taking at any time. Therefore, at this point, Zhang Xiaoman was in no hurry, as he’d just come up with a new idea.

That was to keep this snail for the moment, to use it for experiments in the future, or to test skills, or even, in a more wild idea, to try taming it through means like a contract.

Thinking this far, a thoughtful expression gradually appeared on Zhang Xiaoman’s face.

Since obtaining the System, he had killed no small number of monsters, but he had never captured any of them alive.

After all, the difficulty of killing compared with capturing alive is completely different. When facing such terrifying unknown entities, he has to be extremely cautious, always focused, never daring to spare them.

As the saying goes, even when a lion fights a rabbit, it uses all its strength.

Even the weakest monsters have strange and unknown methods unbeknownst to humans. Even he did not dare to be careless as the slightest inattention could lead to disaster.

In such a situation, capturing these alien species alive became even more challenging.

Now, however, Zhang Xiaoman had the opportunity to capture such a monster, which, of course, gave rise to certain thoughts.

Plus, he had just earned a substantial amount of points, which allowed him to purchase some urgently needed items. He wasn’t in immediate need of those forty or fifty points.

So Zhang Xiaoman decided to spare the snail for now. He planned on keeping it, even if just to use for experiments, to test how strong his skills were. After all, the snail was quite resilient, wasn’t it?

In fact, besides the above reasons, the main point was that the snail seemed very dumb and did not attack on its own, presenting no threat.

If he faced beings like Corpse Demon or Desert Worm, he might keep them for experiments, but he certainly wouldn’t entertain any notions of taming them.

Such creatures purely posed as invaders, and Zhang Xiaoman showed no mercy towards these enemies.

The snail, however, didn’t quite seem like an invader, but more like a free creature from another universe. Using a gaming term, it was a "neutral unit."

Having interacted with these alien species over a period of time, Zhang Xiaoman had some ideas about them, but due to various factors, he hadn’t been able to realize them.

For example, when he first obtained Holy Water, he thought that since it could counteract Demon Series monsters, what if he diluted it with water and used it on monsters? Would the lethal effect change?

If it decreased, by how much? And if he turned it into an ice sword or some other kind of melee weapon, would it still be effective?

These were all things he had considered but hadn’t had the conditions to experiment with.

After all, Holy Water was in very limited supply, costing ten points per bottle, and with his means, he simply did not have the capacity to test it.

Besides, every fight Zhang Xiaoman had with monsters used to be a life-or-death struggle. Until he had overwhelming power, dabbling with experiments during combat was as good as courting death, wasn’t it?

Now things had finally taken a good turn, as today he had for the first time taken prisoners; capturing them effortlessly, but nevertheless, a promising start.

Zhang Xiaoman decided that when opportunities arose in the future, he should try to capture similar monsters, to learn more about the crises so that he could better deal with them.

Having made up his mind, Zhang Xiaoman let the snail be for now. He decided to leave it in the Original Realm for the moment and see if it might be useful later on.

After settling the snail, Zhang Xiaoman then left the place.

Even when not inside the space, he could sense what was happening in it and could use it to monitor the snail at any time.

Coming out from the Final Gate, the first thing Zhang Xiaoman did was to take the Dawn to the island where the World Tree was located, intending to see how it was faring.

He was unaware until he looked, but to his surprise, he had thought that so-called overload would be nothing more than the shield’s disappearance and a temporary energy paralysis.

But now that he had approached, he realized that the entire tree seemed droopy and drained. Many leaves had even fallen off, creating the impression of a listless illness.

Seeing this, he immediately asked the System for details about the World Tree’s condition.

"Star Rank, how long is it estimated that the mainframe will take to recover from this state? Will it have any impact on the Star Alliance Base’s daily development during this period?"
