World-saving Plan: The Only Savior -
Chapter 385 - 269 Emperor Vine
Chapter 385: Chapter 269 Emperor Vine
Zhang Xiaoman didn’t bother with the vines scattered on the ground; instead, he headed straight toward the location of the plant’s heart.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to absorb them, but after his previous attempts, he found that none of the things on the ground could be converted into points.
Zhang Xiaoman guessed that perhaps only at the core of the monster could he obtain points.
The pit smashed out by the World Tree was very large; as he made his way there, stepping over broken branches that littered the floor, what seemed like a short distance proved more difficult to traverse than expected.
As he approached, he saw a blood-colored object in the soil above the ground, surrounded by a great mass of plants.
Half of it lay scattered outside, half buried underground, and the Dark Energy Fluctuation emanated from here.
"It looks like this thing is that heart," Zhang Xiaoman said.
He approached for a closer look and found that it bore some resemblance to the Fog Heart, only the color was more vivid red and terrifying.
This was the first time he had encountered an opponent of this level, which had ultimately forced him to use his last resort, the World Tree.
Who would have thought that this creature not only could use Pulse Attacks, but could also cast an unknown AOE? Worse still, it had targeted him with it!
Otherwise, with the Eternal Veil activated throughout, he wouldn’t have been affected by such an area-effect Skill.
Crouching down, Zhang Xiaoman extended his right hand and activated the Eye of the Starry Sky Skill on the half of the plant’s heart that was exposed above the soil.
A milky white light shone, and a familiar scene appeared once again. He maintained his position, allowing the monster’s corpse to transform into streams of air that flew towards him.
The longer the Duration of this process of absorbing and converting points, the more points Zhang Xiaoman would ultimately receive.
Time was slowly passing.
One minute...
Two minutes...
Three minutes...
At that moment, Zhang Xiaoman’s emotions started to get a bit excited too.
It had been three minutes already. If calculated at one point per second, he would at least get a guaranteed 180 points. How could he not be happy?
During this absorption period, Zhang Xiaoman maintained the effect of the Eternal Veil to prevent any disturbances and also blocked the tracking of the Azure Dragon Army.
Then, as the countdown reached 199 seconds, it stopped, and the System’s prompt appeared in his mind.
"Ding, absorbed Emperor Vine Juvenile Essence, points increased by 199."
points!
Zhang Xiaoman felt a great sense of refreshment and joy upon hearing the System’s prompt.
It seems that this was the most points he had ever possessed at one time since he had obtained the System.
Unexpectedly, what started out as a day for relaxing and accompanying Lin Sisi had turned into such an event, resulting in a massive gain of points—a sudden wealth.
Though the battle was somewhat tough, the outcome was pleasing. With so many points now in his account, Zhang Xiaoman could resolve many development issues within the Star Alliance. With a bit of luck, his own Strength could also receive another boost.
He opened the System Store interface and checked the remaining points; they had increased from the original one point to 200 points.
The grand three-digit number pleased his slight obsessive-compulsive tendencies.
"This thing is called Emperor Vine, and it’s still in the Juvenile Stage. It seems to have quite the background; I wonder what level it will reach when it grows up..." Zhang Xiaoman reflected.
"Fortunately, we discovered this threat in advance. Otherwise, if we had allowed it to grow unchecked, the consequences might have been severe..."
Zhang Xiaoman thought as he stood up again, his gaze sweeping across the surroundings, feeling quite relieved in his heart.
Actually, it was all because that creature was too reckless. If it had just kept a low profile and developed quietly, it might have become a really big problem later on.
But there are no "what-ifs" in the world. The reality is, after killing some cats and dogs and controlling a few people, it became inflated with confidence, and it chose to expose itself.
If that’s the case, then it’s got no one else to blame.
Zhang Xiaoman speculated that the vine-like Monster might have been lurking for a long time before it slowly figured out that humans don’t seem so scary after all.
Not even an Awakener in sight, so it started to get reckless.
But what it didn’t realize was that the terror of humans wasn’t about humans themselves, but about the technological strength they possessed.
Of course, these were all just speculation on Zhang Xiaoman’s part.
Perhaps the creature didn’t care about any of that at all. Considering the strength it had shown while still in its juvenile stage, it wasn’t impossible.
In the end, Water Blue Star wasn’t without Awakeners to watch over it; the Star Alliance that he had established was one such Guardian Force.
Zhang Xiaoman bent down to collect more twigs and vines and decided to bring them back to Rebirth Island later, like the Mineral Essence Teeth he had previously obtained.
What if he later won a recipe or some kind of Magic Technique in the lottery that required these materials? If he discarded them now, wouldn’t he be crying over it later?
Back on the Dawn, Zhang Xiaoman made the ship invisible and elevated it to midair.
After circling the scene, he realized that the Azure Dragon Army’s power system still hadn’t recovered, which showed that the Monster’s abilities were indeed formidable in some respects.
The Azure Dragon Army couldn’t make it yet, but when he was absorbing the Monster’s body, two fighter jets had flown across the sky.
With his meager military knowledge, Zhang Xiaoman didn’t even know what model those planes were,
but he guessed they were probably the support forces Hu Hu mentioned earlier that had been dispatched from headquarters.
These two aircraft were the mainstay fighter jets of the Vermilion Bird Army, the Phoenix 4. Upon receiving the support command, they promptly rushed to the scene.
To the puzzlement of a few other pilots, though they had arrived, where was the 60+ meters tall Monster apart from a large pit?
It couldn’t be that the creature had just been annihilated by some high-yield weapon, could it?
But the shape of the pit on the ground didn’t seem to suggest that.
After reporting the situation back to headquarters, the two Phoenix 4 pilots left with their doubts unresolved.
They were precision strike fighters, not meant for reconnaissance missions, and since this area was a city district, they couldn’t stay around any longer.
Zhang Xiaoman conducted a low-altitude survey of the site, looking for any remaining Monsters. Once he confirmed the surrounding area was safe, he shifted his focus to the third research facility.
He remembered that at the beginning, there was a creature with Dark Energy fluctuations just as intense as the Emperor Vine’s in his Spirit Detection Technique sensing.
That creature even caused him to mistake it for his target, wasting quite some Duration of the Little Golden Man.
Although it didn’t reach the depth of the Emperor Vine in his Spirit Detection,
when compared to those he had encountered before, it stood out significantly, with an estimated strength close to the Level of the Blood Butterfly.
He wondered how the Abnormality Department managed to capture such a formidable creature and keep it here, considering that capturing and imprisoning alive was much more difficult than killing directly.
Even now, Zhang Xiaoman couldn’t manage to capture and confine low-level Monsters directly.
