World-saving Plan: The Only Savior -
Chapter 370 - 254: The Controlled Monsters
Chapter 370: Chapter 254: The Controlled Monsters
On the third floor, inside the safe house, Mr. Wen was anxiously watching the monitors in front of him.
Although the power in the entire building was almost completely down, there were still a few monitors connected to the backup power, still operational.
From Mr. Wen’s perspective at that moment, some large branches suddenly sprouted a few yellow Xiao Huas, blooming awkwardly yet very concealed, and hard to notice unless looked at closely.
"This is bad, there’s something wrong with these flowers! They’re not wearing any protective gear, they might be in danger!"
Mr. Wen anxiously said while looking at the screen in front of him, "I must tell them this message and get them to retreat quickly!"
As he spoke, he tried to use the phone on the desk next to him.
However, like before, his attempts failed again.
"The phone line must have been destroyed, this won’t do, I must go out and tell them the message!"
Upon hearing this, a nearby Azure Dragon Soldier could no longer keep silent and quickly grabbed him, saying:
"Mr. Wen, you absolutely can’t go out, it’s extremely dangerous outside, and you will immediately be attacked by those monsters once you leave the safety of this room!"
"But, what about those people, this is likely a conspiracy, aren’t you all comrades? How can you just watch them walk into a fire pit?"
The two soldiers hesitated for a moment and ultimately shook their heads in refusal, one of the younger soldiers spoke up:
"Mr. Wen, our primary mission right now is to ensure your safety. As for other matters... I believe our brothers can handle them well!"
"You all... sigh!"
Seeing their determined looks, Mr. Wen ultimately sighed and said no more.
In the sky, a helicopter carrying two teams of Azure Dragon Soldiers descended from the air, depositing them on the rooftop of the building.
Now, other comrades attacking from different positions had successfully infiltrated; as the last batch for rescue and assassination missions, they also began their operation.
"Fourth Squad, use the ropes to descend to the third floor and enter directly through the window to rescue Director Wen."
"Ninth Squad, proceed through the stairways down to the sixth floor, and according to the marked position on the map, carry out the beheading operation!"
Next to Hu Hu, the middle-aged man with the surname Wang spoke into the communicator.
The two teams moved swiftly, without any hesitation, and quickly began their operations.
"Smash!"
The sound of a window shattering rang out as members of the Fourth Squad smoothly entered the building from outside the wall, then turned on the lights and proceeded toward the target location following their predetermined route.
Meanwhile, members of the Ninth Squad went down to the sixth floor, heading toward the room holding Containment Item No. 2.
"Rat-tat-tat!"
Gunshots rang out again, the resistance here seemed to be a bit stronger, and through just this short distance, they had already suffered at least four attacks.
"Bang!"
A dull impact sound came as a member of the Ninth Squad was violently flung away by a thick vine.
Seeing this, the rest of the squad immediately opened fire, eliminating the vine.
But just as they were about to help their comrade up, they suddenly discovered a branch had been inserted into his ear at some unknown time.
The look he gave them had also become like those of the controlled researchers.
"Be careful, he might be under control."
The lead man quickly led his teammates to retreat.
Sure enough, this person had lost consciousness and started to attack his own people.
After hitting him with a tranquilizer dart, the remaining three resumed their action, still targeting the No. 2 containment room.
Following a grueling journey marred by several waves of resistance, they finally reached their destination, installed the explosives, and blasted the door open.
At that moment, Mr. Wen was monitoring the scene. He wasn’t quite sure what to say; on one hand, he felt the door, designed as a defense for the containment room, was perhaps too fragile.
On the other hand, he felt rather relieved. Due to hurried modifications made in the past, the door had been somewhat "skimped" on, otherwise, they would not have been able to enter so easily now.
However, no sooner had they entered than a reddish canine-like creature charged at them. It pounced on a soldier before he could react, clamping its petal-shaped mouth around him.
"Ah!!"
The scream echoed throughout the hallway as the other team members snapped to attention and opened fire on the monster.
"Woo woo woo..."
Who would have thought this dog-like creature, despite being shot at close range by a dozen bullets, would not fall and continued to maul its target.
"Dada Dada Dada Dada!"
The gunfire, like a continuous line of sound, didn’t cease. After emptying an entire magazine at it, the red dog finally stopped moving. A grenade hit it and blasted it out of the window.
"Quick, quick, quick! We have a wounded man, request assistance, request assistance!" a soldier quickly crouched down to check his teammate’s injuries.
Hu Hu, watching the monitors, felt equally anxious.
"Ninth Squad, continue with the mission! Strike the target in the heart!" directed Director Wen.
In the safe room, Mr. Wen watched the scene and stamped his foot in frustration.
"I knew it! I knew it! The monsters in the other containment chambers were controlled by that plant too! I wanted to warn them! But the phone line was cut! It’s all my fault, I should have gone out earlier..."
The two soldiers immediately went over to comfort him: "It’s not your fault, Mr. Wen. Blame that plant; it caused all of this!"
"The plant... the plant..."
Mr. Wen muttered to himself.
"This plant is too bizarre... We must eliminate it before it grows stronger; otherwise, the consequences will be unimaginable!"
In the containment hall, after the muscular red dog with petal-like mouth was killed, silence fell once more.
The remaining two team members were intensely alert, fearing that another terrifying monster might leap out at them from nowhere as before.
In this situation, they had to be even more cautious as they proceeded, still aiming for Containment Room Number 2.
Sure enough, just as they were about to reach the containment room, they suddenly spotted a huge figure standing in front of the door, as if waiting for their arrival.
Without any hesitation, the two warriors opened fire. A barrage of gunfire filled the dark space, illuminating the surroundings with the flames from the muzzles.
On the other side, inside the safe room, Mr. Wen saw this scene and sighed in relief, then spoke somewhat despondently:
"It’s no use, their guns can’t breach the defense. This is the new Number 9 containment subject, a snail. It seems to have no attack ability and moves very slowly, but its defensive power is frighteningly high..."
"We tried everything, but we could never affect it; as long as it retreats into its shell, there’s nothing we can do..."
"So, what do we do now? Can their guns penetrate the snail shell?"
A young soldier anxiously asked.
"No, the shell will close up, and not even gases can penetrate. However, the way to deal with it is actually very simple..."
"Ah! What is it?"
Another young soldier asked.
Mr. Wen looked at them oddly, then slowly uttered three words.
"Ignore it."
