Chapter 348: Chapter 232: The Whereabouts of Guan Liang
"Huh, look, that’s Guan Liang, isn’t it? He went to the basement after work the night before last, and there’s surveillance footage of him at the entrance here."
Zhang Cheng pointed to an image on the computer screen and said.
The others also leaned in to take a closer look. Because the footage was somewhat unclear, identifying him was still slightly difficult.
"Yes, yes, yes, that’s definitely him. I remember the clothes he wore when he finished work the day before yesterday, they’re the same as what I saw this morning. It’s absolutely him, no mistake!"
Li Ziran said with certainty.
Next to him, Mr. Wen, seeing that the surveillance had recorded something, was also pleased and promptly asked them to continue searching through the footage.
However, what puzzled everyone was that after Guan Liang had gone into the basement the night before last, he never appeared again. The surveillance didn’t catch any footage of him leaving.
"There are a total of four exits to the basement, including the elevator. He might have left through another one. Let’s check the surveillance footage at those places too!"
Li Ziran suggested.
The others nodded in agreement, although this meant that there would be even more work to do.
Then, they began to sit in front of the computer and carefully watched the surveillance recordings, while Mr. Wen, who had an important meeting, left first.
Li Ziran and Zhang Cheng stayed behind with the warriors in the surveillance room, hoping to find their friend’s whereabouts as soon as possible.
So time passed until noon. After watching over an hour of surveillance footage without any results, they even slowed down the footage in case they had missed something earlier.
"This is strange, how could this be? After he entered the basement, he never came out. Could it be that he spent the entire night there? Li Ziran, are you sure you saw him this morning?"
Li Ziran was still scrutinizing the surveillance monitor, frowning deeply. Upon hearing his friend’s question, he replied without turning his head,
"I’m positive; I definitely saw him this morning. He had his back to me and was looking down. I thought he was checking his phone or something. Later, because I was going to be late, I just greeted him quickly and went straight up to punch in."
As he spoke, Li Ziran grew increasingly anxious. He suddenly thought of the vine-covered wooden door he had seen earlier in the underground garage, and a somewhat absurd notion resurfaced in his mind.
"Guan Liang, he couldn’t have been hiding behind that door, could he...?"
At that moment, Mr. Wen also returned from the meeting. After asking for an update and learning that there were still no results, his eyebrows furrowed even tighter.
"I’ll inform the Abnormality Department about this matter. You guys go and have lunch; we still have to go to Sheep Village this afternoon, don’t starve yourselves."
Mr. Wen said as he took out his phone to call Hu Hu. The situation was very odd and would normally have been addressed by calling the police.
But given the special circumstances at the moment, he had to take it seriously, especially since the incident occurred at the Three Institutes.
After all, this place was housing several abnormal creatures. Who could guarantee that this incident wasn’t related to them?
Just as Mr. Wen was about to dial Hu Hu’s number, Li Ziran, who was next to him, suddenly shuddered and then shouted while pointing at the computer screen.
"Guan Liang! It’s Guan Liang!"
Everyone in the room was startled by his sudden yell and quickly gathered behind him to look at the image on his computer.
The video had been paused, displaying a young man in a black coat passing by the stairwell on the first floor. Due to the camera’s angle, his face wasn’t visible, only his silhouette was shown.
But even with just this silhouette, many who knew him could recognize him—there was no doubt it was Guan Liang.
"I knew it, he went out through another exit!" Zhang Cheng exclaimed triumphantly.
Mr. Wen also inquired, "Xiao Li, that footage is from the stairwell, right? What’s the exact time on it?"
Li Ziran clicked the mouse and displayed the time, reading aloud, "The time is September 19th, 10:48 in the morning... hmm, September 19th, morning? Wait a minute! That’s just now!!"
It turned out that Li Ziran, who had not seen Guan Liang come out from the basement earlier, had sped up the footage to the maximum and let it play continuously, quickly advancing to that very morning.
The others showed surprised looks, but upon realizing what had happened, they let out a sigh of relief.
If he had appeared just now, it meant that he should still be in the building. Perhaps they had simply overlooked him earlier, and maybe he had temporarily left for some urgent matter and now returned.
With this thought, they went to Guan Liang’s office in the building to see if he was sitting there at his desk.
However, once again, the situation took an unexpected turn.
They enlisted others to help and thoroughly searched the entire building, but Guan Liang was nowhere to be found.
It seemed the surveillance hadn’t captured any signs of him either; he had vanished as if into thin air, deeply unsettling.
Without hesitation, Mr. Wen called Hu Hu, explaining the situation and hoping he could bring a team over immediately to investigate.
"This shouldn’t be happening, how could a person just disappear like that? The guards at the door didn’t see him leave either; what on earth is going on?"
"I don’t know. The research institute is now under martial law, and it seems this matter might be quite serious. I heard the Abnormality Department is arriving soon, and they will seal the entire building and conduct a search. We should be able to find out the result."
"Ah, what a headache. I was thinking of going to East Crossing Ancient Street for lunch, and check out the filming site of the running group. Seems like I won’t be able to go now."
"..."
Li Ziran wandered through the corridors, amidst the murmurs of many colleagues discussing the incident. He felt an eerie sense of mystery over the whole affair.
The dilapidated wooden door he had seen in the underground garage seemed imprinted in his mind, continually drawing him to see what lay beyond.
He even started experiencing auditory hallucinations, as if he could hear a voice calling him from behind the door, urging him to enter.
Shaking his head, Li Ziran headed straight to the restroom. He relieved himself from holding it all morning, then went to the sink, washed his face to refresh himself.
After that, he prepared to go and check the underground garage to see what was really behind that wooden door, rather than remain restless all the time.
