Chapter 319: Chapter 203: Fight with One’s Back to the River
Weiss had just finished speaking when the monster launched its attack.
The wooden window on the wall was shattered abruptly as the monster, covered in a black shell, appeared before everyone.
After breaking through the window, the monster didn’t pause at all but continued its charge, heading straight for Lord Bear who stood at the forefront.
The monster was incredibly fast. Not only was it massive in size, but it also possessed a high level of agility comparable to that of a tiger or leopard.
Even in its run, the speed and momentum were like that of a fully speeding heavy truck, unstoppable, instilling fear in anyone who saw it.
Bell, truly a top predator, dodged the moment the monster charged in, while firing the prepared Burst Spirit Skill from his hand accurately hitting the target.
"Hiss roar!!"
The monster let out a painful scream, its body tumbling forward with inertia and only stopping after breaking another wooden wall.
Green blood was strewn across the floor, and after struggling a few times, the monster got up again. Clearly, Lord Bear’s strike had inflicted considerable damage.
"Hiss roar!!"
The monster made an unpleasant screaming sound, then unexpectedly instead of attacking again, it stepped back a few steps, turned, and ran away.
"Awesome! So cool! Bell, what was that move? A super ray? It ran away, hahaha!"
"Be careful, it might still be around. Can you see it?"
"I can’t see it. It might have moved beyond the range you mentioned. If it comes back, Bell, hit it with that move again and finish it off for good!"
However, Lord Bear gave a bitter smile and said, "I can’t anymore. With my current ability, I can only launch that kind of attack twice. I missed the vital spot earlier which allowed it to escape. It might be spying on us right now, so we must leave here quickly."
At Weiss’s words, his face, which still held a trace of joy, now froze. Just as he opened his mouth to say something, a sudden sharp pain from his wound made him grimace in pain. Not daring to waste more time, he immediately urged everyone to leave.
"Let’s head back the way we came and get to the car. We should make it in time."
Soon, the group traced back their steps. Although the mist obscured their view, at this moment of life and death, everyone could only hasten their pace, relying on their memory of the path.
Fortunately, the insect did not show up along the way, and as Xiao Shun and the others supported Weiss, their pace was not slow. Before long, they arrived at the car outside the valley.
"Thank heavens, there are no other monsters here. If we had encountered two more, it definitely would have been the end of us."
Throughout, Weiss was constantly attentive to the surrounding noises, fearing to see the figure of another monster through that peculiar sensation.
"I need medicine, bandages, all in my car. Hurry up. If I don’t get treated soon, I feel like I’m about to go meet Old Toby... hey! Kid, where are you going! Don’t go alone! It’s dangerous!"
Weiss was in mid-sentence when he suddenly noticed that Xiao Shun did not stop with them but instead ran straight towards the edge of the mist and disappeared from everyone’s sight.
"He’s gone for help. We’ll bandage you up and then we better leave here quick." Lord Bear said to him.
Although Weiss did not fully understand what "gone for help" meant, he didn’t ask further questions. He felt that the absurd events he had encountered today were already plenty, and one more incident wouldn’t be surprising.
However, just as everyone had just opened the car door and was preparing to retrieve the medicine, Weiss, who had been watching the surroundings, suddenly changed his expression.
He looked in the direction of the valley with trembling lips.
"They, they’re coming... five of them! Hurry! Everyone, get in the car!!"
The others, hearing this, were also horrified. They thought they had escaped to safety, but to their surprise, even more monsters had appeared, leaving them feeling trapped and desperate.
"Bang, bang!"
With the sound of two car doors closing, all four of them were now huddled inside the car.
They pressed their bodies low, though they knew it was of little use, but still hoped that the monsters would overlook them.
However, this somewhat naive hope was shattered in a short while.
The unknown alien species had all stopped and were surrounding the car from all sides.
The monsters’ enormous bodies moved across the ground with surprising lightness, making hardly any noise.
The people inside the car also realized that the others had already pinpointed their location and all lifted their bodies slightly, observing the monsters outside through the car windows.
These monsters, like the ones before, were all large beings covered in black carapaces, looking ferocious and appearing like insects magnified many times over.
Among the monsters was the one that had been injured earlier in the cabin; evidently, it had led its companions here. Clearly, they were a group.
"Damn it, what the hell are these things? An insect swarm? Aliens? Why are these creatures on Water Blue Star? Could they be from outer space?"
As Weiss bandaged his wound, he said to the others:
"I don’t know how you are familiar with these creatures, nor do I understand your superpowers, but the situation is urgent now; whatever abilities you have, use them without holding back!"
He paused, then seeing no response from the others, he understood that his hopes might be dashed. He sighed bitterly before pointing to certain places inside the car and saying:
"Okay, looks like we need to find some other way. Bell, take this K-2; there are two loaded magazines to your left. And the two guys in the back, in the drawer of the seat in front of you, there are two M1911s. I know you might not know how to use them—just hope you don’t shoot me... Oh, everyone, don’t forget to put on your earplugs."
"I’ve added bulletproof layers to this car, but I don’t know if it can withstand their attack. I guess the windows will probably be the first to break. When that happens, shoot out the windows immediately and target these guys’ mouths—they sure like to howl."
Weiss spoke rapidly, informing everyone of the ammunition locations and tactical arrangements while Lord Bear and the others did not dare delay, springing into action the moment they heard his words.
"I hope we can all survive today..."
Weiss pulled a submachine gun with minimal recoil from under the seat, readying himself for a final stand.
With his current physical condition, that was the only weapon he could barely manage to use.
Everyone quickly finished their preparations, but when Weiss turned around to check the back row, he was nearly infuriated by what he saw.
"I said, you two! At least turn off the safety first!"
