World-saving Plan: The Only Savior -
Chapter 313 - 197 Bounty Hunters
Chapter 313: Chapter 197 Bounty Hunters
Zhang Xiaoman had assigned three tasks to the Light Blue Clan, aside from one long-term mission that involves intelligence gathering, the remaining two were relatively instantaneous tasks that could be completed more swiftly.
However, compared to recruiting construction workers for the base, finding the poison liquid of the Black Mamba Snake proved to be more challenging.
This species of snake is not endangered, owing to its strong abilities and few natural predators, so its population in Africa remains stable.
The troublesome part of searching for this snake is that there is no market for it within Hua Xia Country, and although it can be sourced through certain channels abroad, it will inevitably be scarce due to the lack of value in large-scale breeding.
Of course, it is still possible to find small breeding operations, but this is not cost-effective because the price of snake venom is inherently expensive.
Put simply, the price of snake venom by volume, can even surpass that of the most expensive top-tier perfumes on the market. Making bulk purchases is not only difficult to manage, but even if a source is found, the quantity might not suffice, and the price would be astronomical.
Therefore, considering all these factors, the method Xiao Shun and his colleagues thought of was to go directly to the original habitat to search.
Luckily, Lord Bear had connections that could procure large amounts of snake venom; otherwise, the task would have been considerably more challenging.
At this moment, approximately five days had elapsed since the mission was assigned.
In a nameless small village to the east of the Weile River in the northern part of Congo Country, members of the Light Blue Clan sat in a very simple hut, eating breakfast.
They were enjoying a local specialty food, which according to Lord Bear’s translation, was called "Wood Soup", essentially crushed cassava boiled into a porridge.
"uka el Masatolgo ngkkoyo pasaAnglpi, omonngo to ukésntoe ekozemsilimbida To."
On the side of the room, a black woman with a white high hat spoke to the group.
She was dressed in the traditional garb of the Brazzaville Region and owned the house where they were staying.
She spoke a language from the northern part of Congo, called Lingala, which contains many words derived from French; however, due to the significant variations, even Xun You, who was fluent in French, could not understand.
But this wasn’t a problem, since their small team from the Light Blue Clan had Lord Bear, a seasoned traveler who could engage in simple communication using the local language.
"What she just said was that these are the first batch of mature cassava normally reserved for honoring distinguished guests," Lord Bear explained, serving as an interpreter, and despite possibly some inaccuracies, the general message was conveyed.
"¥...#¥%@!@#"
Lord Bear said something to the woman, who replied with a couple of sentences and then left with a smile.
"I asked her to check if Weiss has arrived. Today is the day we’ve agreed to meet. If that guy comes, he’d surely be at the only tavern here getting a drink first. The owner doesn’t really welcome strangers, of course, except for Weiss. He once saved the owner’s son," Lord Bear said.
The other three nodded at his words. The Weiss mentioned by Lord Bear was one of the targets they had come for.
Weiss Kamman, a bounty hunter, was born in Texas, America, and started taking on missions around the world, particularly in the Middle East and Africa, following a family elder from a young age.
He and Lord Bear met on a joint wilderness adventure, and though not very familiar with each other, had been in contact a few times and had some experience cooperating.
Bounty hunters are not the same as mercenaries. The biggest difference is that mercenaries will work for whoever pays them the most, whereas bounty hunters won’t participate in illegal activities. They might help employers fight, but they always stand on the side of the local government.
So, the most common missions their team would take on involved helping government forces to eliminate bandits and drug lords and such.
Jobs like the one Lord Bear had for him today, involving finding people or things, were also within their scope, but such easy tasks were usually hard to come by.
The woman had now gone to find Weiss, leaving Lord Bear and the others enjoying breakfast at the table.
Hu Peng devoured a huge bowl of cassava in no time and then eyed the large pot not far away. Getting up to dish out some more, he still seemed to savor the flavor:
"Who would have thought that the cassava here would be so delicious? It’s beyond my expectations. I thought the food here would be the kind that’s hard to swallow. Today has really opened my eyes. I can’t help it; I’m going to get some more."
But at that moment, Lord Bear put down his bowl and stopped him, saying, "Hu, we’d better eat less, we have a long journey ahead today, and eating too much isn’t good, and..."
As he spoke, he glanced at the contents of the bowl as if he’d remembered an unpleasant experience and added:
"Besides, the local cassava contains a significant amount of substances like hydrogen cyanide, and even peeling and cooking it might not eliminate the traces of toxicity completely. If you consume too much at once, and your body isn’t accustomed to it, you’ll end up vomiting and having diarrhea."
Hearing this, Hu Peng immediately hesitated and lost his appetite for another bowl. Xiao Shun and Xun You, who were still eating, also stopped mid-bite.
Lord Bear looked at them and said, "You two don’t need to worry, the amount we’ve eaten won’t cause any stomach upset. Make sure to eat enough or you won’t have the strength later."
And so, the group continued to enjoy their breakfast, while Hu Peng, having eaten too quickly, could only watch them enviously.
As everyone gradually finished their cassava porridge, the woman who had gone to find someone returned, followed by a Caucasian man.
The Caucasian man was about one meter eighty in height and was wearing a sleeveless tank top. Although not particularly muscular, his tight clothing highlighted his lean, explosive physique.
Clearly, this man had to be Weiss Kamman.
Ten minutes later.
"Hahaha, Bell, long time no see. You’re still the same old you, fiercely haggling as always. Okay then, ten thousand US dollars. Since this mission is so easy, I’ll just treat it as a vacation," said the bounty hunter known as Weiss.
"But you know my rules, half the payment upfront, and the remaining half to be transferred to my account once the mission is complete."
Lord Bear looked around and asked, "Weiss, did you come alone this time? Where’s your team?"
