Chapter 298: Chapter 182: Unexpected Gains
Zhang Xiaoman replenished his energy to full, but when he went back to look for the Mountain and River Sword, he found himself somewhat dumbfounded.
He had been so engrossed in his thoughts earlier that he forgot to retrieve the Mountain and River Sword before leaving. Now, in the pitch-dark surroundings, he only managed to find seven swords at first glance, with two more nowhere to be found.
"Oh my god, how could I be so unlucky."
Zhang Xiaoman slapped his forehead and then suddenly remembered that he still had the World Tree with him. He immediately asked aloud:
"System, can you help me find the weapons that have been lost here?"
The reply from the Star Rank came at once.
"Yes, Star Lord, I need you to grant me scanning permissions."
"No problem."
Zhang Xiaoman nodded in agreement. He was aware of this scanning permission, having seen it in the manual these past few days.
In essence, it was similar to a phone’s memory scan; the Star Network Host has a built-in function to scan the area within the shield’s range.
However, this ability was usually under his manual control, but now, he was handing over the scanning privilege for the Star Rank to complete in his stead.
"Scanning permission received, commencing task: ’Locate weapons lost here,’ scanning underway..."
Zhang Xiaoman tilted his head: "Hmm? Something feels off."
...
Half an hour later.
Gazing at the small mountain of assorted swords, daggers, and shields before him, Zhang Xiaoman’s mouth twitched involuntarily. No wonder he always had a feeling something was amiss — the problem lay right here!
"System, where did you find all this equipment...?"
As he finished his question, a plant root moved across the ground from afar, then threw a sword covered in aquatic plants into the pile of weapons.
"Star Lord, all of these are weapons lost on Seven Star Island, some unearthed from underground, but most were found at the bottom of the lake."
Zhang Xiaoman’s eyelid twitched. He had asked the Star Rank to find equipment, but he hadn’t expected the creature to bring back so much. What are you, some kind of River God?
"Scanning directive completed. A total of 722 weapons have been collected this time, including 323 longswords, 196 long spears, 72 shields, 59 daggers, 27 long knives, 14 hand crossbows, 5 bows..."
As Zhang Xiaoman listened, he couldn’t help but glance at the pile of weapons again, feeling rather speechless. Who could have imagined that simply looking for one Mountain and River Sword would cause such a commotion?
Picking up one of the swords on top that seemed to have less aquatic plants on it, Zhang Xiaoman bounced it in his hand, finding it much heavier than he had expected.
With his current strength, holding it continuously seemed to be a rather strenuous task, let alone swinging it in prolonged combat.
"Hmm, the weight is acceptable, but I wonder about the material..."
Zhang Xiaoman gently brushed away the aquatic plants and dirt, revealing the true appearance of the sword below.
The sword was entirely silver-white, with a broad blade that imbued it with a sense of heftiness compared to the slender and well-proportioned Mountain and River Sword. Holding it in hand, the weight made one instinctively feel a surge of power, as if it could sever anything.
"Who would have thought this sword would be uncorroded, still usable after being soaked for such a long time, and not even a hint of rust, I’ve apparently stumbled upon a treasure this time."
Zhang Xiaoman’s eyes gleamed brightly as he looked at the heap of weapons before him, feeling incredibly exhilarated.
He ran his finger gently over the blade and discovered a shield engraved with a Guardian emblem at the front end of the hilt.
Looking at a few other weapons, he found that most of the longswords were like the one in his hand, marked with the Guardian symbol, while only a small number bore the patterns of Forest Guardians or Trackers.
However, the long spears were the exact opposite, all marked with the emblem of the Forest Guardian; their shape was identical to the giant spears wielded by the Star Guards, only differing in color and with slightly finer craftsmanship.
As for the most abundant daggers, they were practically the Trackers’ weapons, all adorned with the emblematic "Eye of Truth."
These weapons, rather than being daggers, were more akin to short swords, each at least fifteen centimeters in length.
The rest of the weapons varied widely in type and there weren’t many of each kind; the patterns engraved on them also had no discernible order.
"If these weapons are matched against the background setting modified by the Sect Establishment Order, then they should be the ones left behind by those people here."
"Longswords are mostly used by Guardians, shields seem to be the same, and long spears are the primary weapons of the Forest Guardians, while daggers and crossbows seem to belong to Trackers. It’s just unknown how strong these things actually are..."
No sooner had he thought it than he took up a sword and struck it against a nearby low wall, easily chipping off a small corner.
"Damn, this sharpness is not bad at all, let me try some other attributes..."
Zhang Xiaoman’s eyes widened, brimming with anticipation as he tested its hardness.
He first positioned the wide-blade sword properly, then took out a Mountain and River Sword and swung it down forcefully.
"Hum!"
With a strong ringing of the sword, the newly found wide-blade sword broke in response, clearly unable to match the strength of the Mountain and River Sword.
Despite this, a look of pleasure crossed Zhang Xiaoman’s face as he sensed a faint resistance during this attack, something he had never felt before when using the Mountain and River Sword.
"It seems that the strength of these weapons is indeed quite high. Although not as good as the Mountain and River Sword, compared to those made of steel by modern industry, they are definitely much stronger... Yeah, they should be considered as Extraordinary Equipment."
Zhang Xiaoman was very satisfied with this unexpected find. He gathered up his two Mountain and River Swords and a dinner knife, then ordered the Star Rank to transfer all the enemies’ weapons to the underground space in the Inheritance Land.
"System, scan and see if there are any other good things here, like armor, Dark Energy Formula, or methods of making weapons... Oh right! Gold mines would be good too..."
He watched his wristwatch with eager anticipation, but the search results brought a bit of disappointment; it seemed there were no other resources here.
"Alright then, contentment brings happiness. Having these pieces of equipment, I’m already quite happy."
Zhang Xiaoman no longer greedy, tidied up the items, and went home.
The haul from today was rich for him; even though he hadn’t fully mastered the ability to launch weapons with Dark Energy Shock — which wasn’t something that could be learned in a short time anyway — the sudden bounty of weapons had left him extremely content.
With this, the initial "Newbie Equipment" for the members of the Star Alliance was more or less secured.
