Chapter 208: Chapter 96 Transition from Horror to Disaster Film
The scene before him was a small and relatively open area, where there must have once stood an abandoned building, now only some ruins remained.
On this wasteland, a group of cats and dogs sat squatting on the ground, all uniformly looking in the same direction, motionless and utterly silent.
This scene was exactly the same as those pictures circulating on the internet.
Li Xiang also noticed that around them, there seemed to be other animals as well, and in just a short while, he had already spotted two mice and a hedgehog.
"Something’s not right here, there’s definitely a problem, I need to tell Brother Man about this..."
He turned off his flashlight, now relying solely on the moonlight to discern the situation ahead.
"But with this, my five tasks are pretty much completed, right? Once Brother Man verifies the information, maybe I can join them..."
Li Xiang’s feelings were complicated at this moment. Although he was nervous about the current scene, he was even more excited about what the future held. The thought of that mysterious Extraordinary Organization made his heart involuntarily flutter with excitement.
"Darn, so the ’Cat and Dog Moon Viewing Painting’ that was spread online is real!?"
"Haha, to think that this is actually happening. I thought those were photoshopped. How could stray cats and dogs live together peacefully?"
Suddenly, a voice arose beside him, as a man and a woman also walked over and couldn’t help but exclaim upon seeing the scene before them.
"Right, what are all these cats and dogs looking at, anyway? Are they really looking at the moon?" the woman asked.
"No, isn’t the moon on the other side? Is there something over where they’re looking?"
Brother Xiang said this and even walked a few steps forward, standing on that patch of ground and looking into the distance as well.
"There’s a big building there, hey, it looks familiar. Isn’t that... the Three Institutes?"
At their movements, the group of animals which had been looking in a certain direction suddenly turned their heads, their actions uniform as though they had been rehearsed.
Faced with the dozens of shining, cold beastly eyes, even the usually brave Brother Xiang was startled.
However, once he came to his senses, he felt a bit embarrassed. This was the second time today he had shown fear in front of his girlfriend, and it annoyed him greatly.
"Damn it, a bunch of little animals trying to scare me! I’ll sort you all out myself, one by one!"
With that, he charged towards the group of animals.
Li Xiang wanted to stop him, but facing this eerie scene, he felt somewhat afraid to speak up.
In a moment of distraction, that man had already rushed to the animals.
Brother Xiang was also surprised because, based on his past experiences, these stray cats and dogs should have scattered in all directions the moment his "big frame" charged at them, not remained motionless like now.
Confronted with those dozens of gleaming eyes, Brother Xiang also felt intimidated.
Especially since among the group of animals were many large stray dogs, which allowed his brain, originally overtaken by anger, to cool down a bit.
Li Xiang felt something was wrong and began to slowly retreat backward.
The next second, all the animals stood up simultaneously and lunged fiercely at the still-dazed Brother Xiang.
"Ah!"
"Ah!"
Two screams rang out, one from the attacked Brother Xiang, and the other from the frightened woman.
Dozens of animals overwhelmed Brother Xiang’s body in an instant. Cats lunged at his face, dogs bit at his legs, and even two mice and a hedgehog rushed forward with reckless abandon.
Yet, what was even more eerie was that, aside from the man’s screams of agony, not a whisper from the animals could be heard on the field.
The woman had already turned ghastly pale with fear; she subconsciously grabbed Li Xiang’s arm, as if she had suddenly found a lifeline.
"Save, save him! Big brother, please go save him, will you?"
Li Xiang shook off her hand.
"Let go!"
Seeing that he was unwilling to help, the woman became frantic, "Are you still a man or not? How can you just stand by and not save him!"
Li Xiang forcefully peeled her hand off his clothes, retorted angrily, "Bullshit! There are at least thirty dogs over there, he brought this on himself, and you want me to die with him!? I warned you earlier, you were laughing at me so happily, weren’t you? What about now!?"
He watched the strange scene unfolding before him while carefully backing away; he continued speaking to the woman, "I advise you to get out of here quickly, call the police if you have to, but don’t expect me to rush in and die."
Having heard this, the woman also came back to her senses. She glanced at her boyfriend, who was no longer struggling, bit her lip, and decided to run first.
Just as they were about to leave, another twist occurred on the scene.
The animals that had been tearing at Brother Xiang suddenly stopped their assault and dispersed to either side, their gaze still fixed on the bloodied man on the ground.
"Bang, bang!"
Two thunderous noises suddenly erupted from the ruins, sending stones flying in all directions. Two thick vines shot up from the ground, extending up to about ten meters into the air before halting, their terrifying strength and momentum chilling the two people nearby to the core.
The sudden appearance of the gigantic vines was like something out of a monster movie, instantly turning the previous "horror scene" into a "disaster scene."
Li Xiang, who had initially wanted to take a photo as evidence before leaving, no longer dared to stay a moment longer and began running back the way he had come.
After a few tumbles, the woman also picked herself up and ran, jostling along. She was far from having any thoughts of rescuing someone now.
The group of animals didn’t pursue. They sat quietly on the open ground as if the two vines were their eyes, staring intently at Brother Xiang, who lay on the ground, not knowing if he was dead or alive.
The vines twisted and stretched in the air for a while before slowly descending, wrapping around the man and pulling him toward the ruins...
"Huff, huff~"
Li Xiang finally stopped after running to the outside of the alley, his equipment slowing him down considerably, but he was still much faster than the woman behind him.
"What the hell was that just now... what is that thing..."
He leaned on his knees, gasping for air.
Although he had been investigating for nearly a month and had encountered quite a few strange incidents, this was the first time he had come face to face with a monster. It truly terrified him.
"Damn it, if Brother Man were here, you wouldn’t be getting so cocky!"
Li Xiang thought furiously in his heart.
Finally, the woman also ran out and sat down on the ground with a thud.
Her face was pale, her lips trembled, and her eyes stared blankly at the ground, too shocked to even cry.
Li Xiang didn’t bother with her, but took out his phone, opened his social media app, found the person’s profile, and sent a message.
"Brother Man, I discovered a big one here today! I saw it with my own eyes, it’s a plant that came out of the ground, just the vines are over ten meters tall, I nearly didn’t make it out..."
