Chapter 484: Chapter 102: Don’t Be Impulsive
"You shouldn’t have mentioned my father."
"I’m sorry, Lady Ireya. I just wanted you to understand the dangers of participating in the tournament. Before leaving Green Field, Sir Alfred entrusted me with the task of protecting you at all costs."
"I don’t doubt your loyalty, Thomas, but... as a knight, there are things more important than life itself. As a fellow knight, you should be able to comprehend this."
"You should seek Prophet Merlin’s advice," the Guard Captain conceded, taking a step back.
"Hmm, Merlin." Although the Lady had always trusted Li Yu, she didn’t hold much hope this time.
It was mainly because she had seen Merlin in action.
When the two originally returned to Green Field from Rock Snow City, Li Yu and Jude had confronted a group of mercenaries chasing them.
Well, Ireya felt that Li Yu’s close combat level was about the same as hers, ranking in the same tier.
If her opponent in the tournament was Li Yu, the two of them, evenly matched, might fight hundreds of rounds.
Of course, Li Yu had a Holy Artifact that could unleash Thunder at that time, and now she had one too.
Not only that, but she also had a small bottle that could spray poison. If necessary, she could borrow a few smoke bombs from Jude.
These Holy Artifacts were certainly powerful, but the saying remained the same: the issue was the user’s poor foundation.
Even someone as strong as Li Yu had been killed by lizard people and then stuffed by Golden Eyes into a sack. That showed that Li Yu didn’t possess a Holy Artifact that could turn an ordinary person into a top expert overnight.
Otherwise, he would have used it on himself and his Black Hound guards long ago.
Thinking of this, the Lady’s heart turned cold again.
Dammit, was she really doomed this time?!
After the Guard Captain left, the Lady racked her brain, pondering if there was any reasonable way to withdraw from the tournament.
She thought about it until dinner and still couldn’t come up with a good plan.
Was a sacrifice necessary to survive the ordeal? The Lady stared at her own left leg, lost in thought.
She hesitated for a long time but couldn’t bring herself to make the harsh decision.
Fear of pain aside, the medical standards on the Bratis Continent, especially in surgery, were quite mediocre. Reattaching a severed leg would likely result in a lifelong disability.
While that might permanently resolve the current predicament and prevent future troubles, the cost seemed far too great.
The Lady sighed repeatedly for a while then, unable to resist the drowsiness any longer, decided to go to bed.
However, it seemed today might just be her unlucky day.
The young Lady had barely lain down when she heard a commotion downstairs, "Ireya, is Dragon Slayer Knight Ireya here?"
Thomas immediately went to meet them, frowning as he said, "Who are you...?"
"Squire Knights Crow, Iron Fist, Blue Rose, Mad Dog, Skinny Monkey, and Stonecutter of the Third Knight Order."
Under the cloak of night, six young knights blocked the inn’s entrance with their horses.
"What is the Third Knight Order doing here?" the Guard Captain asked.
The leading young knight named Crow said, "We heard that yesterday, three fools from the Second Knight Corps were taken care of by Meat Mountain."
"So you’ve come to seek vengeance for them?"
"No, the Third Knight Order and the Second Knight Corps have never gotten along. We couldn’t be happier that Meat Mountain thrashed their men," another knight, slimmer than his companions, chimed in.
However, he then rolled his eyes and added, "But since we all belong to the Royal Knight Order, if they are incompetent, someone must step forward to restore the honor of the Order."
"Exactly, we want to challenge Meat Mountain to restore the honor of the Order!"
Thomas’s frown deepened. Yesterday, Sir Irelia had demonstrated her divine power outside the camp of the Second Knight Corps, which had been quite effective. Until now, no one had come to cause trouble again.
Unexpectedly, this calm was broken after just a little more than a day.
And compared to the previous provocations by the young wolves and others, this time, they found a good excuse by closely tying it to the honor of the Royal Knight Order.
For nobles, honor has always been the most precious thing, and Thomas could not simply refuse.
Just then, another voice spoke up behind him, "If that’s the case, then I’ll join you for some fun."
"Who are you?" Crow looked at the man opposite him, who was stocky but not tall, and said, "We are here to challenge Meat Mountain."
"I am Wild, the Lord of Fertile Corner," the man with the grey mane said with a grin. "Prophet Merlin saved my granddaughter.
"As a repayment, I promised to accept the challenges directed at Sir Irelia on her behalf and take care of some riff-raff to ensure she has enough energy to prepare for the upcoming duel tournament."
"Who are you calling riff-raff, shorty?" Mad Dog said displeased, his gaze at Wild flashing with a fierce light.
"Young people these days are becoming increasingly impolite," the head of the Singleton Family said, shaking his head. "It seems I need to help your elders teach you some manners."
"Count me in," Thomas realized that conflict was inevitable and thus spoke up.
"And me," Ferdinand stepped out of the inn with large strides. He wasn’t much of a talker; he just uttered those three words and then closed his mouth again.
Following were Treger and Orwell.
Rogers came out a bit later because he had already gone to bed and had just finished getting dressed.
And Miss Rabbit also came down from upstairs at this time. Wild turned to her and said, "Just watch from the side. They’re just minor characters; we can take care of them for you."
"Hmph, fine, we’ll defeat you first, then go challenge Meat Mountain," Iron Fist snorted coldly.
A handsome young knight then said somberly, "There are quite a few old folks here. If anyone gets hurt, we might end up paying a lot in medical bills."
"Blue Rose, your family is so rich, just casually throwing a bit of money around could dazzle these bumpkins, right?"
"My grandfather keeps a tight rein on me," several people chatted nonchalantly.
Just as Thomas was about to remind the others not to be impulsive, the City Lord of Fertile Corner, with a roar, already charged forward with his axe raised.
And at this moment, Crow had only spoken half of his sentence, "Do you want to fight one on one, or all together..."
Thomas sighed. He hadn’t expected that Wild, older than all those young people combined, would still have the fieriest temper.
But seeing that Wild had already charged, he had no choice but to follow.
Mad Dog had already been eyeing the gray mane, and now seeing that his opponent chose him, he was not shocked but delighted. He jumped down from his horse, drawing his side sword.
Dodging Wild’s ferocious axe, he was about to strike back, when he saw the City Lord of Fertile Corner unhesitatingly retract the axe and flee directly with a puff of smoke.
Mad Dog was stunned, but Wild was not. He hadn’t fled far and turned back to join Thomas in a pincer attack on Iron Fist.
Iron Fist didn’t expect such shamelessness and roared again and again, struggling to defend. However, how could he alone withstand the joint effort of Thomas and Wild.
Barely blocking a few blows, he was hit in the chest by an axe from Wild. The force was not light, even with a chest armor.
Iron Fist was also left dizzy, collapsing to the ground, losing the ability to fight.
"I’ve taken down one," the head of Singleton Family declared, raising a finger proudly.
