Chapter 347: Chapter 105: Perfect Rescue

Tom and Golden Eyes simultaneously charged at the Knight, one from the left and the other from the right.

The latter was stunned, having not expected an attack at all.

In fact, had the Knight maintained a high level of vigilance from the moment they met, he might have foreseen this; but now he believed that the negotiations had been settled.

He had agreed to let Tom and the others leave the city to continue chasing the Black Armored Cavalry. His choice to keep Clara was not out of malice but rather from goodwill, believing that Tom and his group would be encumbered by her presence.

Recently, these Black Armored Cavalry had killed many of his warriors, including his own Squire Knight. If it were not for orders he was bound to, he himself would have liked to lead a pursuit against those bastards.

Since Tom and his group were willing to take on that task, he had hoped the mercenaries would manage to capture them.

He absolutely did not anticipate that they would betray him at this moment.

His two guards behind him were performing their duty well. Seeing the Knight under attack, they immediately drew their swords to come to his aid.

But then, they were intercepted by Golden Eyes.

Meanwhile, Tom’s knife was also held against the Knight’s throat.

The Knight’s face looked terrible, "Are you in league with those Black Armored Cavalry?"

"Not at all," Tom replied, "but we need to leave the city now, all of us, so we had to inconvenience you."

"I won’t let you leave."

The Knight was resolute, but it did no good. As soon as he uttered those words, a Lizardman Warrior bound his hands and gagged him, quickly silencing any sounds he could make.

"My apologies, sir. We’ll release you immediately once we’re out of the city," the captain of the guard said, bowing apologetically.

The remaining guards, seeing their superior tied up, pointed their bows at the members of the Double Rest Sect, but none dared to fire their arrows.

To make matters worse, the Knight’s Squire Knight had already died in earlier fighting. Now the troops were like a dragon without a head, not only unsure of what to do with Tom and his companions, but even struggling to control the new recruits.

They faced a counterattack from the opposite side and were nearly broken through.

Tom urged the Knight, "Don’t hesitate. Let us leave and you can at least secure the city gate. Otherwise, how will you explain to Sir Ed?"

Though reluctant, the Knight knew Tom spoke the truth.

Even for the sake of the greater good, he couldn’t sacrifice himself this time.

"If you agree to let us go, just blink your eyes," Tom said, noticing the Knight’s attitude wavering and adding more persuasion.

Upon hearing this, the Knight blinked.

Tom then removed the cloth from his mouth, and the Knight, glaring fiercely at Tom, finally said, "Open the city gates."

The gatekeepers, receiving the order, immediately opened the city gates.

Tom let the others go ahead while he and Golden Eyes brought up the rear. After moving three miles out of the city and confirming with a drone that there were no pursuers, they finally released the Knight as agreed.

However, upon gaining his freedom, the Knight did not leave immediately but instead stood staring at Tom, saying, "You are from the Double Rest Sect, aren’t you?"

"Why would you say that?"

"I too received an invitation some time ago and attended the initiation ceremony of Sir Irelia," the Knight pointed at the falling drone in the sky and added, "I have seen these iron birds at Sir Irelia’s initiation ceremony."

"Well," Tom, seeing no point in hiding it any longer, said to the Knight, "We from the Double Rest Sect don’t care about the conflict between Hirodod and Martina. Prophet sent us merely to rescue people."

"That girl?"

"Yes."

The Knight nodded and asked no more, only looking at Tom again and saying, "If we meet again, I hope to have a fair fight with you."

Tom’s old face flushed slightly, "Alright."

The Knight accepted the answer and turned to head back to the city.

Golden Eyes chuckled, "I bet the next time you meet him, you still won’t fight him face to face."

"What right do you have to say that, you lime thrower?" Tom retorted unhappily, "Besides, I’m not a Knight. Why should I engage in an honor duel with him?"

"Aren’t you a regular army of the Double Rest Sect? Don’t you need to fight for the honor of Saturday?"

"We don’t talk about that sort of thing where I come from." Tom said, "Prophet Merlin once said that any method that leads to victory is a good method. I come from a mercenary background, of course I’m more accustomed to solving problems with mercenary methods."

"Now that you mention it, I’m actually a bit interested in joining the Double Rest Sect." Golden Eyes said, stroking his chin.

"Forget about it," Tom scoffed, "You should first think about how to ask the Prophet to remove your curse, then about serving the Double Rest Sect. Joining the Black Hound Guard isn’t that easy."

Golden Eyes didn’t argue this time.

While the two were talking, Clara also woke up, rubbed her eyes, and saw the Lizardman Warrior carrying her.

She blinked in surprise, "Ah Pu, is it you?"

The Lizardman Warrior named Ah Pu turned his head towards the little maid and grinned.

"What’s going on, have I returned to Green Field, or am I dead?"

"Neither." Tom interjected, "We’ve just rescued you, and we are still on the way back to Green Field."

"Ah, I remember now, I was on a carriage with Hirodod before." The little maid rubbed her head, "but then we were ambushed, the horses got spooked, and I hit my head."

Tom was alarmed, "Wait, you said Hirodod was also on that carriage."

"Didn’t you see him when you rescued me?" Clara asked.

"No, he must have run away." Tom slapped his thigh, now regretting that if he had known this information earlier, perhaps he could have dealt with Hirodod too.

But he was just lamenting the fact, knowing it wasn’t likely they would win a fight, as the newly formed Black Hound Guard was no match for the Black Armored Cavalry.

It was just that Hirodod was busy fleeing and didn’t want to engage with them any longer, otherwise Tom might have been lying down by now.

However, this did explain why Hirodod had sent so many skilled individuals to escort Clara. Tom found it strange at the time but didn’t think much of it.

Like most people in the city, he had not expected Hirodod to abandon the city at this critical moment.

And the little maid, while expressing her gratitude to everyone who came to rescue her, thought of something else and said to Tom, "Right, Hirodod was also making large amounts of poison in the city before, planning to use it against Martina and her large army."

Connecting this with earlier investigation results, those Black Armored Knights had secretly captured about twenty Herbalists in the city and gathered them at a pub in the southern part of the city, which coincided with what Clara had said.

So the Guard Captain of the Black Hound Guard said, "When we pass by a nearby village, I’ll spend some money to hire a few people to relay this message to Priest Martina and Sir Ed."

The members of the Double Rest Sect, although they worship Saturday and were not aligned with Martina, still did not want to see mass poisoning, especially among the civilians in the city.

Thus Tom decided to help as best as he could, of course, having just escaped from the city, they definitely would not return just for this matter.
