Chapter 205: Chapter 53 Ireya’s Accusation

"Thus, we need not worry about him flying away again." Iron Face Brian returned his blood-stained sword to its sheath, as if nothing of consequence had occurred.

Viewing the severed wing on the ground and the blood that continued to pour from Gabriel’s wound, Ireya was completely dumbfounded.

She had heard rumors that the sheriff of Rock Snow City was a heartless man towards his prisoners, which was why he was called Iron Face, but the brutality of his methods was somewhat beyond her expectations.

To act so decisively without warning, and to perform an execution in public no less, severing Gabriel’s wing with a single stroke.

Not just Ireya, but even the other nobles nearby were stunned by the bloody scene.

David frowned slightly, somewhat helplessly he said, "Brian, you..."

"Oh, sorry." The sheriff promptly apologized then took out his handkerchief, bent down, and lightly rubbed it on the young lady’s boots, "I shouldn’t have let that dirty scoundrel’s blood splatter on your boots."

"......"

Miss Rabbit was at a loss for words, hesitated for a moment, then finally spoke, "Sir Brian, you need to keep him alive; he possesses crucial information."

"I’ve dealt with many prisoners; I know what I’m doing.", the sheriff said nonchalantly.

"The prisoner was captured by Miss Irelia, I think we ought to respect her wishes on this matter.", Romero interjected then.

"Alright, alright, I promise not to torment him anymore.", Iron Face Brian instructed his prison guards, "Did you hear that, get me a reliable physician right away to stop this bastard’s bleeding and dress his wounds, and tell the others not to hurry with their games with him back at the prison, this guy is still useful to us in the future."

Perhaps it was because everyone was already quite familiar with the sheriff’s way of doing things.

After a brief shock, the crowd quickly regained its composure, remembering the atrocities committed by the evil dragon in the western territories recently, with even some applauding.

And Miss Rabbit, along with David and other nobles, arrived at the Marquis Mansion.

Revisiting the place, the young lady couldn’t help but feel a bit sentimental; just a few months ago, when she visited as a guest, she was nervous, unsure if she could successfully assume the position of Family Head.

As for when she left, it was even more disgraceful, almost fleeing in a sorry state.

Yet, now returning, she had become the guest of honor here; throughout her journey, everyone greeted her with smiles, even major figures like Romero and Brian were very polite to her.

But the young lady had not forgotten the purpose of her visit this time.

As everyone took their seats and David waved to signal the chefs to serve the dishes, Ireya stood up again and spoke in a grave voice, "Lord David, and all the distinguished guests here, I am very grateful for everyone’s warm hospitality."

"You deserve it!", someone replied, raising their glass, "To Miss Ireya’s eternal youth!"

More and more people then lifted their glasses echoing, "To Miss Ireya’s eternal youth!" The atmosphere once again picked up.

However, seeing that the person of the hour did not lift her glass, those cheers and laughter gradually faded away until they disappeared, leaving a look of confusion in everyone’s eyes.

In the West, unless there were deep hatreds, it was quite rare for nobles not to accept each other’s toasts; not to do so was considered extremely impolite.

The young lady first curtsied to apologize, then spoke up, "I did not intend to neglect everyone intentionally, but as long as this issue remains unresolved, I cannot join you all in drinking."

"What’s the issue? Feel free to speak," said David from the head seat, "Miss Ireya, after you eliminated that Evil Dragon, everyone here, myself included, owes you a favor, and we will certainly not shirk our responsibilities."

The Lady nodded, "Then I will speak plainly. My father Ruse, his death involves hidden circumstances; he was murdered."

Upon these words, a sudden uproar broke out in the banquet hall, and the faces of the nobles present changed color.

After a moment, Romero was the first to speak, "Miss Ireya, we all deeply regret the passing of your father, but... when that unfortunate accident occurred, many were present, and they can all testify. It was your father who first requested the duel, and Sir Caroman even tried to dissuade your father.

"Moreover, it is well known that Sir Caroman was a close friend of your father. He had no reason to harm him."

"Sir Caroman betrayed my father, brutally murdering him, but someone else directed him to do it," she asserted.

"Who?" asked David.

"Your brother, Hels."

The noise in the hall grew even louder.

Upon hearing this, David’s expression grew stern, and he wiped all smiles from his face, "If I hear you correctly, Miss Ireya, you are accusing my brother."

"That’s right."

"This concerns the reputation of the Figrola family and my brother. I must remind you, Miss Ireya, that the accusation you are making is very serious. Do you have any evidence?" David inquired.

"Of course, Gabriel—uh, that guy with the wings on his back—he admitted that he was Hels’s accomplice. They planned everything together, choosing the Gai Gu Swamp to hatch the Black Dragon, hoping my father would help them cover up, but my father refused.

"He even threatened to inform the Marquis about their deeds, infuriating Hels, who then had Sir Caroman murder my father."

"That makes no sense," Romero shook his head, "Hels himself died in the flames of that Black Dragon... how could he possibly be accomplices with this Gabriel?"

His words also got a lot of nods from others.

But Ireya’s next statement shocked everyone even more.

"Hels is not dead; it was just a decoy who died, to erase any suspicions about him," the girl paused, "Hels has always coveted the position that wasn’t his. But he had far fewer supporters than his brother, Lord David. Thus, he devised a scheme.

"By using the Black Dragon to eliminate lords who supported you, clearing the obstacles for himself. If I had not killed the Black Dragon and had let his plans continue, you would have been his next target, Lord David.

"Think about it, gentlemen," the girl then turned her gaze towards the others in the hall, "Gabriel is but a powerless foreigner; even if he could control the Black Dragon, how could he possibly know the whereabouts of each target, and even specifically choose the times when their guard was at its weakest to strike?

"He definitely had other accomplices, and that person’s identity must not be simple, because only then could he provide Gabriel with the intelligence to precisely execute the attack."
