Chapter 279: 030: Vote
Wizard Calendar, December 10038.
In this bitter winter, a shocking incident broke out in the Ancient Ruins of the Three-Ring Wizarding Domain, destined to be etched into the annals of history—
A muggle wizard stole a wizard inheritance and secretly advanced to the Second Tier Mystic Technique. He then launched a sudden attack on Punishment Square during a grand sentencing event, committing a bloody massacre against the Wizard Families attending the ceremony and causing thousands of Pureblood casualties.
The Black Robe Enforcers responsible for maintaining order at the square were heavily damaged, and their chief officer, Marshall Wizard, was tragically killed.
The entire world was shaken!
...
Shadow Tower, Round Table Wisdom Hall.
The magic stars orbiting the night-sky dome shimmered brightly, illuminating the hall below.
Around the ancient stone table, the Seven Great Judges convened once again.
Codinos glanced around and quipped in a joking tone, "Well, look at that, everyone’s here again. Who would’ve thought that we’d gather three times in such short succession? And all because of the same person."
After the Lynch incident erupted, the mysterious figure who had previously advanced to Second Tier was naturally revealed.
Codinos cracked a cold joke, but no one responded. Everyone present sat silently in their chairs, the atmosphere unmistakably heavy.
Given their identities, the deaths and injuries caused by this incident were the least of their concerns. What truly mattered was Lynch’s challenge to the established rules.
How did this muggle accomplish such a feat? Advancing to Second Tier without attracting any attention?
Where did he acquire the inheritance?
If he could do it, could other muggles as well?
If these questions were not answered and this momentum not suppressed, it would pose a devastating blow to the order cultivated on this land for thousands of years.
Erodion spoke, "Let’s hear your thoughts."
Codinos stood up, saying, "First, we should investigate thoroughly to understand where that boy got the inheritance from... It might be linked to his mentor, that fifth-class talent. We must be more cautious when hiring external wizards in the future."
Typically reserved, Sirena expressed her opinion in an icy tone: "We must also uncover the source of those Dead Spirits he commands!"
Saros suggested, "Start by investigating the people around him. Bring in anyone connected to Lynch since he entered the Wizard World for questioning, including his Mortal World family members. Execute a few, if necessary, to compel him to appear. Also, inform the Supreme Council and issue a wanted order..."
"I oppose,"
A voice interrupted Saros—the calm words came from Wizard Calvin, who took a few drags from his pipe and exhaled smoke rings. "I oppose such measures."
Codinos remarked, "Now’s not the time for personal feelings. If your niece is so precious to you, I can cultivate a new body for her from blood and cells. It would be an enjoyable toy guaranteed to win her undying loyalty."
Calvin shook his head. "My opposition has nothing to do with anyone else. It stems solely from my own recommendation. Feel free to adopt or discard it, but allow me to finish speaking."
Codinos returned to his seat.
Calvin took another drag from his pipe, slowly exhaling smoke before speaking leisurely. "Though his source of inheritance remains unclear, I believe it’s not replicable. Otherwise, after so many years and so many muggles, it wouldn’t be only him by now."
Codinos chuckled, "Not the only one? Isn’t there another one sitting right here? Haha."
Calvin looked at him. "Is that funny?"
After a pause, he continued, "Right now, the matter is still confined among Pureblood circles; the information can still be contained. Issuing a public wanted order could instead spark undesirable thoughts among other muggles, or even lead them to imitate him."
"As for the inheritance..."
"Its origins are now irrelevant. What matters is that he has already advanced to Second Tier and is beyond our control. If he has any sense, he’ll likely flee to other wizarding domains."
"How long has he been in the Wizard World? Less than a hundred years, right? Regardless of how he achieved it, he has done so. Less than a hundred years to reach Second Tier—what about two hundred years from now? Three hundred? Even a thousand? Who can predict the heights he might reach? Engaging an enemy like this is not a wise move."
Saros asked, "So, what do you propose?"
Calvin took another drag from his pipe, unhurriedly replying, "My suggestion is to find a scapegoat to close the matter and minimize its impact. Ideally, the information should be completely sealed."
"There’s no need to target his friends and family. It’s unlikely to yield results, but it will certainly sour relations with him."
"A Second Tier wizard is already an equal entity to us. If we are to act, we should first pacify him before doing anything else."
Codinos couldn’t help but grumble, "You were the one who modified the Deep Meditation Method to prevent others from advancing, and now you want to hypocritically recruit him? Playing both hero and villain, huh?"
Calvin pretended not to hear.
Reo was the first to angrily shout, "I oppose!"
"So many deaths, and nearly the whole Punishment Square destroyed. How could someone like him not face trial? Where will our authority remain if we let this slide?"
"Only by punishing such a muggle can we deter others from rebellion and show them the consequences!"
The long scar between his eyebrows, resembling an ugly centipede perched on his forehead, twitched as he spoke, making it all the more grotesque.
At his level, removing this scar would’ve been effortless, but Reo deliberately chose to keep it—to remind himself of his shame.
Sirena stood with Reo: "I oppose, too. A betrayer must die!"
Codinos declared his stance: "Three votes against!"
Surprisingly, Saros supported Calvin: "I stand with Calvin. After hearing his proposal, I find it more reasonable. There’s no need to exacerbate the situation."
Now the votes were tied at 2-3.
All eyes turned to the Clown Grich, who hesitated, his head rapidly swiveling between Reo’s and Calvin’s sides. He looked highly conflicted.
After a moment of pause, he slowly raised his hand to join Reo’s side... but halfway up, he put it down and ultimately aligned with Calvin.
3-3.
Now, only Erodion in the chief seat remained.
Reo’s cold stare fixed on Erodion: "You’d protect him!"
Erodion furrowed his brows.
Reo’s words left Erodion with no choice.
Because...
Erodion was the muggle among the judges!
In a world dominated by Purebloods, a muggle must be harsher than any pureblood and stricter toward muggles to hold power.
He declared, "Issue the wanted order."
However, after a pause, he added, "As for capturing his associates..."
"Since this incident originated with the Tavendish family, let it also conclude there."
"Calvin, you oversee this."
Codinos pursed his lips: Truly cunning...
A wanted order was issued, but the matter was not taken to its extreme. On the surface, Erodion agreed with Reo’s resolution, but in truth, he also accommodated Calvin’s demands. Truly, a master of subtlety...
The Wise Erodion!
