Chapter 341: Chapter 339: Voluntary and Jokes
Lin Junkai and Zhang Zihao were silent amidst the swirling smoke.
But Wang Rui’s complaints were many.
She seemed to be scolding students, yet also scolding some others not present.
Her tone grew increasingly agitated.
"Why aren’t you speaking? No words left, huh?"
"When I wasn’t around, you all managed to practice extra on your own. Now what, getting lazy?"
"I think I’ve been too nice to you all!"
Wang Rui’s voice reached a peak: "If you slack off now, you’ll regret it for a lifetime! Now is the time to spare no effort, to risk everything for your grades!"
Her voice was sharp and piercing, reaching beyond the room, making the other resting students shudder.
"Hiss—hu—"
The e-cigarette was once again inserted into her lips, Wang Rui’s gaze drifted to the two students.
"So, tell me, what do we do next?"
This wasn’t a question.
What to do?
Lin Junkai and Zhang Zihao lowered their heads, their minds racing.
It wasn’t the answer they were pondering, for the answer was already laid out before them.
They were thinking about whether they should speak, and who should speak first.
"Huh? You’re both grown up now, don’t know what to do?!" Wang Rui raised her voice again.
After five breaths of silence.
"...Extra practice." Lin Junkai heard a voice beside him.
He turned his head to look at Zhang Zihao next to him.
Zhang Zihao’s voice was low, and after uttering those words, he gritted his teeth.
Wang Rui’s gaze fixed on Zhang Zihao.
"In the future... voluntary extra practice. And then, we’ll supervise all the classmates to practice together." Zhang Zihao added hesitantly, "At least, everyone should reach the level to pass the physical test... Those who can already pass should try to improve as much as possible."
Hiss—hu—
Wang Rui leaned back in her chair, nodding with satisfaction.
"Starting today, Zihao, you’re the team captain, you’ll supervise everyone in extra practice. How you practice, I don’t care, I only want results. Everyone must at least pass the physical test next month, understand?"
"Let me give you a few instructions."
She glanced at Lin Junkai, then at Zhang Jiahao.
"You all are kids with good sports scores, sometimes you might not understand those classmates who aren’t as fit. For them, you must use every possible method, like—"
Wang Rui scanned through the names in her mind: "—Xu Pengcheng!"
When she mentioned the name, Wang Rui inevitably frowned.
"He’s not like you, understand? He’s too poor in fitness, so common training methods absolutely won’t work. He’s too lazy and has no ambition; otherwise, how could a regular sports student get this out of shape?"
"Don’t think that pushing him to practice is harming him, you’re helping him, understand? If you don’t help him, no one will."
"Otherwise, you’ll watch him fail the physical test, only able to go to junior colleges or vocational schools. Would you feel good about that? Think about it, his future, his whole life, ruined by your current leniency. Tell me, would you feel good about that?"
There was a brief silence.
"Not good," Zhang Zihao replied mechanically, as if well-rehearsed, appeasing Wang Rui.
Lin Junkai didn’t speak, but he also shook his head.
"Right," Wang Rui nodded in satisfaction.
"So, what will you do?"
Another brief silence.
"Voluntary extra practice, and focus on key areas," Zhang Zihao repeated.
The conversation in the office ended there.
Wang Rui walked out of the office with large strides.
The students, who had been leaning against the walls resting and quietly chatting, all stood up upon seeing her, adopting a stance with hands behind their backs.
Wang Rui’s gaze swept over them, quickly spotting a large gap at the end of the line, where a student with a buzz cut stood apart from the others.
"Xu Pengcheng." Her voice wasn’t loud, but the student whose name was called couldn’t help but tremble.
"Tired? Is the practice hard?"
Xu Pengcheng murmured, not daring to respond, and Wang Rui had no intention of expecting an answer.
After making a fuss without a cause, her gaze scanned over each student’s face again.
"That’s all for today, dismissed!"
With that said, Wang Rui headed towards the bike shed without looking back, rode off on her electric scooter towards the school gate.
The students, however, didn’t dare move, just watched as Zhang Zihao and Lin Junkai slowly stepped out behind her.
"..."
Zhang Zihao glanced at Lin Junkai, noticing the model student lower his head.
He couldn’t help but grit his teeth.
Taking a deep breath, he shouted loudly, "Extra practice!"
"Xu Pengcheng, practice with me... Ak, you come over too!"
...
"That’s roughly the situation,"
says Nan Zhubin.
They had just completed another day of work and returned to the villa.
Nan Zhubin was organizing the information he currently had.
According to confidentiality principles, there were two people with him now.
One was Chonghui, a colleague on the project, who could know Li Mingchen’s specific situation.
The other was Weng Pinting, Nan Zhubin’s supervisor and the overall head of the project, who could know Li Mingchen’s situation.
An open line in front of Nan Zhubin was connected on speakerphone, with Chang Ming on the other end. As the Health Commission liaison, he could also know Li Mingchen’s specific situation.
Lu Jia was sleeping in the next room of the villa and could not know.
Chang Ming repeated over the phone: "So, Li Mingchen’s coach, apart from assigning unreasonable training volumes in the past, instigated students to ’proactively’ use nearly bullying methods to ’extra practice’ with classmates? Is that it?"
Nan Zhubin corrected: "Not ’in the past,’ still ongoing. I went to the field this afternoon and saw that their team of sports students is still doing extra practice, similar to what we saw."
"Is that coach there?"
"No. And upon seeing us, those students immediately moved to the indoor gym. When questioned, they also said they did extra practice voluntarily for results."
Chang Ming on the phone made a "tsk" sound and fell silent.
Nan Zhubin first looked at Chonghui and Weng Pinting.
Chonghui, whose expertise lay in projects and writing papers, could only shrug like LeBron on this matter.
Weng Pinting pondered, then turned to ask Chang Ming: "Director Chang, any suggestions?"
"It’s difficult," the voice responded from the phone, "unless Mr. Nan, you could make evaluations of ’anxiety,’ ’anorexia,’ or even ’depression’ for every student on their team. But how’s that possible, haha..."
Chang Ming said this in a joking tone, then paused, seemingly waiting for someone to respond.
"Indeed, it’s not possible," replied Nan Zhubin earnestly, "I’ve talked with those kids, and a few might have ’anorexia’ tendencies, but they haven’t reached the ’disorder’ level. The real issue is just that one kid I mentioned to you."
The voice on the other end of the call was momentarily choked by Nan Zhubin’s answer.
