Chapter 311: Chapter 309: Overdone is as bad as undone

Unexpectedly, Vice Principal Ma did not show any weakness because of what Chang Ming and the others said.

Instead, he suddenly exuded a commanding presence, even his eyes seemed to flash with a strange light.

"Director Chang, I somewhat understand psychological things, and I also know the general nature of the anxiety you’re talking about with students... You’re asking about these issues now, so you think that Li Mingchen’s problems are related to our Teacher Wang."

Vice Principal Ma took a deep breath: "But exams, college entrance exams, are meant for students to strive harder, to push themselves more—otherwise, how can they achieve good results? How can they change their destinies?"

"Especially for these sports students who aren’t strong academically, their training is even more demanding than their studies. Director Chang, you’ve been in contact with students for so long, you agree, right?"

Chang Ming hesitated for a moment, opened his mouth to say something.

But, based on the facts, he nodded.

"Exactly. We add extra training, make students diet, isn’t it because they can’t pass the physical test? When grades are lacking, students worry, parents worry, and teachers worry even more!"

"You treat students like fragile glass, protecting them, sheltering them, I understand. But frontline teaching can’t be conducted this way—especially in sports training!"

It seemed to make some sense.

But Nan Zhubin had already discerned the logical flaw.

Yet before he could point it out, Vice Principal Ma, after his verbal offense, promptly and skillfully took a step back.

"Of course, I also understand that there must be a limit. For students unwilling to study, we supervise them to study 8 hours, 10 hours a day; but if a student is willing to study 14 hours a day, we can’t really let him do that. The same goes for Li Mingchen, if something happens to him at school, we also have supervision failures to bear responsibility for."

"But if you say there’s something wrong with Teacher Wang, then we really won’t be able to teach students in the future..." Vice Principal Ma looked into Chang Ming’s eyes, "Director Chang, do you understand what I mean?"

Nan Zhubin frowned while listening, about to speak.

Chang Ming, however, patted Nan Zhubin’s arm and tilted his head.

"Mr. Nan, shall we discuss this?"

...

"Director Chang, what’s the matter?"

Stepping aside, Nan Zhubin looked at Chang Ming’s expressionless face and had a bad premonition.

Sure enough, after hesitating for a while, Chang Ming seemed to have made some decision and sighed deeply: "This is about enough."

"?" Nan Zhubin looked at Chang Ming.

Chang Ming also watched Nan Zhubin for a moment.

Then as if making a firm decision.

"Mr. Nan, I have to ask you, what’s your purpose?"

Chang Ming continued self-talk: "I hope to protect students, prevent things from worsening to the point of causing harm, and ensure a fair compensation for what students currently suffer."

"I’ve dealt with many similar students before, but rarely to today’s extent, it’s rare." Chang Ming spoke meaningfully, "Really rare."

And directly.

As an official, speaking to Nan Zhubin, a "social expert," in such a manner, was like confiding openly.

Nan Zhubin suddenly recalled Chang Ming’s indifferent attitude when they first connected; as he saw them confront hardships in stride, the attitude became more expectant.

"...Is it alright for Director Chang to say this much to me?"

"I’ll say even more to you," Chang Ming responded.

"I know you, the Nan Zhubin from Jiang University, right? When I saw you taking on this project, I hoped you would accomplish something, but I was worried you wouldn’t understand, and might mess things up—so initially, I was hopeful, but cautiously so."

"Now, you’ve truly achieved something, but you’re still somewhat naive."

"I can tell you, things at this point are sufficient; overdoing it is unwise—regarding this student, complete your role, I’ll fight for the rest."

"Vice Principal Ma wants to label the issue as their oversight, this is actually the best resolution. Because Li Mingchen can receive more compensation and even return to continue his studies—Jiang Yizhong is a very good public school."

Nan Zhubin blinked, understanding Chang Ming’s point.

Chang Ming looked into Nan Zhubin’s eyes: "Mr. Nan, you want to thoroughly elucidate Li Mingchen’s issue, I understand; but this isn’t best for Li Mingchen, do you get it?"

"If you’re truly worried about him..." Chang Ming pondered a moment, "I can request a report for another project, let you handle psychological consultation for Little Li, how about that?"

Chang Ming’s words were compromising.

But Nan Zhubin knew, he wasn’t compromising to himself, Vice Principal Ma, or anyone else.

If anything, he was compromising to Li Mingchen.

Nan Zhubin also agreed wholeheartedly. In a way, Chang Ming’s proposal was an effective intervention method from a "living environment" perspective for Li Mingchen.

One that could have a healing effect on Li Mingchen.

"But Director Chang."

Nan Zhubin took a deep breath and said, "I have discovered another student similar to Li Mingchen."

"...What?"

"His problem is more complex than Li Mingchen’s, and in some ways, his situation poses more danger," Nan Zhubin said, "and I think we can prevent him from worsening to Li Mingchen’s level."

Chang Ming was silent for a moment: "Is the other student’s issue related to that Coach Wang?"

"I haven’t confirmed yet, but it’s likely related."

"Are you saying that Li Mingchen’s situation could occur repeatedly at Jiang Yizhong in the future?"

"Very likely. As of now, there’s at least one similar case."

"What do you think is the trigger? How do you plan to help the student you’ve discovered?"

"So far...the main trigger appears to be this Coach Wang. We haven’t fully exposed Coach Wang’s methods, and I suspect she has methods other than high-pressure training. Addressing her triggering origins might be suitable."

"Addressing the root of the problem?" Chang Ming couldn’t help but chuckle, "Jiang University’s Nan Zhubin, Mr. Nan..."

After thinking it over, Chang Ming shook his head, "When it involves teachers, circumstances become complicated...all your assumptions are just ’possibilities,’ but we can’t handle teachers based on ’possibilities,’ understand?"

The implication being that before the worst happens, there’s no justification in intervening with a teacher.

The extent of what Nan Zhubin and his team could do now was because Li Mingchen had the solid incident of a fall, allowing them to confront Vice Principal Ma and Coach Wang directly.

Nan Zhubin sighed.

Is it truly impossible to "prevent worsening" from occurring?

"Could I speak with Coach Wang again, maybe unveil her more severe issues..."

Chang Ming shook his head, stopping him: "That would be bad for Li Mingchen, remember what I initially told you—going too far."

"I can’t sacrifice what I fought hard to secure for the student at hand for a problem I’m not yet aware of and is merely a ’possibility,’ do you understand?"
