Chapter 567: We Can Always Just Go Poke Another Leviathan

I told him about the other Leviathan that was recorded in the logs and the apparent hate boner they have for each other.

Even though his face was hidden by the helmet, I could somehow tell that he was frowning behind that face plate.

"Interesting... We have encountered this Leviathan you speak of a few times before and it has been unusually persistent in attacking any ship they came across. Just the other day, I lost another ship to it even though they were already trying their best to escape from it. In fact, you should know since you were there."

Ah... He must be talking about that group that attacked us...

Last I remembered, there were two ships remaining who flew away after the Leviathan showed up so I guess one of them was unfortunate enough to catch the Leviathan’s attention and ended up getting eaten or something...

The fact that they couldn’t escape despite running away first... That snake must have been pretty fast...

Oh wait... I remember the notes saying that the snake had warp capabilities or something?

Damn... How are we supposed to deal with it then?

Even if we were to try and lure that Leviathan here, we might end up in its mouth instead...

I shrugged, "Alright, so are you going to say that it’s not a good idea?"

"I’m saying it’s a terrible idea, unless you have a way of luring it without it killing anyone?"

"Honestly, I was just thinking of shooting at it from far away and then running away when it starts chasing us. Then fly all the way back to the other Leviathan and let them fight it out," I admitted.

"And you are going to do it?"

"Are you offering your crew up for the plan?"

"No."

"So what other choice do we have? We were planning to do it without you from the start."

There was a short pause before the Pirate Lord let out a snort, "Hmph... I can’t tell if you are suicidal, overconfident or crazy. But if you plan to do that, I’m not going to stop you. Though before you go, I would ask you to give us the code to use the weapon first."

"You’re not going to ask us to give you that for free, are you?"

He took a moment to stare at me, "Do you realise that without this weapon, you would also be stuck here?"

"That’s not true? As I said, we had planned to do this without you from the start. We can always just rely on luring that Leviathan here. As crazy as you might think it is, it is still an alternative for us. As for you, your weapon is useless without the code we got from the station."

A few hushed whispers came from the other pirates around the room, no doubt thinking that we were going to get killed by their leader for going against him.

The Pirate Lord slowly pushed himself out of his chair, standing up to his full height which towered over everyone else in the room.

With his size, even the largest door in the station would require him to duck his head before he could fit through so all I could think of was how annoying that might be.

He shrugged his shoulders and cracked his neck, "Are you really trying to make demands of me while standing right in front of me?"

I raised my eyebrow at that, "Then where do you want me to make demands of you? While on a call?"

Another moment of silence settled in the room and the only sound was the soft hums coming from the station we were in.

"You’re being serious? Did you forget where you are right now?"

I huffed at him, "What? Are you going to threaten me or something? Something like ’give you the code or else you’ll kill us’ or something along those lines?"

"Did you not think of that possibility before you said those words?"

"Didn’t I already tell you? We came here prepared to level this entire place down if need be. So if you are actually going to threaten us, then don’t waste our time and say it."

I’m pretty sure at this point, everyone in the room was holding their breath and I could sense Amber tensing up behind me, most likely preparing herself to start burning every pirate around us into cinders.

I kept my eyes on the Pirate Lord and he did the same with me, neither of us moving an inch as we stared into the visors of each of our helmets.

I’m not sure why but I get the feeling that even though it may look like he was looking straight at me, I didn’t get the feeling that he was actually looking at me.

I don’t really know how to explain it but that was the feeling I got.

Eventually, the Pirate Lord was the one who spoke first, "Ha! You’ve got guts then. Don’t forget that I already know you took down a Pirate Lord on your own so I’m not stupid enough to try and test that. There’s a reason why my crew is able to survive for so long despite us being wanted by the UTM, you know?"

UTM? Ah... The United Terran Military if I’m not mistaken.

He then slowly lowered himself back in his seat, "Very well then. What are you looking for in exchange?"

I crossed my arms, "You already know that we are after this Pirate Hoard so we want in on it."

"You do know what the Pirate Hoard is... Right?"

Not at all... I was expecting like a chest full of gold or Credits or something but obviously that isn’t going to be the case. Is gold even valuable here?

I tilted my chin at him, "Why don’t you enlighten me?"

He huffed, "It is said to be the pirate’s haven. Records say that there used to be a pirate that stood against the UTG back before the AI Rebellion that had enough power to stand toe to toe with the military and win. They managed to claim an entire system for themselves and the only reason why they aren’t running rampant around the galaxy anymore is because he retired and disbanded his crew."

"And this system that he conquered is supposed to be the Pirate Hoard that you’re talking about?"

"All his treasures, all his achievements, his ships, his former base, everything is there. If one could claim it, they would be undoubtedly be the most powerful Pirate Lord in existence. They would be... The new Pirate Sovereign!"

...

I don’t know why but I was sure he was going to say pirate king or something... Well, it’s not that the name is important anyway since I don’t intend to become a pirate.

But it would be annoying if we got there only to find that it was just one piece of a puzzle and there’s a hundred other pieces to assemble before you can get the actual treasure...

I looked at him, "So what makes you think this supposed legendary pirate would just hand over all his things just like that? Wouldn’t it make more sense if he just sold them all away and live somewhere else instead of going back there?"

"Ha! You really followed this all the way here without knowing anything? They claimed an entire system! There’s multiple planets there and it’s even said that one of those planets might be the fabled Earth! It’s a paradise! You wouldn’t even need to do anything for the rest of your life and all your needs will be taken care of! What’s more, no one else will know the location of that system so you will be safe for life!"

Ok, first... That sounds really lonely living the rest of your life just by yourself on a planet...

Second... Earth?! It’s right there past the Warp Gate?!

No wait... If I think about it rationally... Earth should be somewhere within the Inner Colonies and we are still in the Outer Colonies... So there should be no way that it’s here...

Unless there was a mistake somewhere? Maybe the position somehow moved?

But they did say that Earth’s location was wiped during the AI Rebellion so this kind of checks out?

Hmm... All of this is just speculation for now so we’ll have to see it for ourselves... And that doesn’t change our goal anyway so it doesn’t matter.

The Pirate Lord leaned forward and gestured to me, "So... Now that you know that. Are you going to say something like you want to claim the system for yourself?"

I considered it for a moment.

"I’m not really interested in claiming a system for ourselves... But if possible, if there are treasures or any equipment, ships or armour that would give us an advantage, I would like to at least be allowed to claim some of it for my party."

"Hmph... That’s it? You’ll be happy with just that?"

"Credits of course. I would like to claim at least some of the Credits if there are any."

"Hmm... You’re asking for quite a lot just for this, you know?"

"Included in that is also our silence of course. We won’t tell anyone about it and we will just go our own separate ways."

The Pirate Lord paused, as though considering my words before there was a soft grunt coming from him.

"You drive a hard bargain... Fine then. Let’s discuss how we’ll deal with the Leviathan."

Oh... He agreed to that pretty easily? They must be pretty desperate.

Well, I’m not complaining of course~
