Chapter 276: Hit Me With Your Best Shot, Honey [2]
[ZULA]
"I didn’t get you out of the palace, woman," Zaffuto.
Liana rolled her eyes at him.
"Yeah right, because every bride wants to sleep in a huge twelve-by-eight bed alone. Which one is it going to be?" Liana insisted as she pointed her blade at Zaffuto. If he wasn’t going to come willingly, she would make him.
The wolves were watching the king bicker with his queen like this was the strangest of things for them. Honestly, they couldn’t even be blamed because anyone in their right mind would have chosen to disappear from the same space as Zaffuto.
Hell, the wolves who were trapped in that damned boundary would have given everything to escape the king.
And yet they were stuck watching the married couple bicker like enemies while finding ways to see each other, and lovers who never wanted to let go of each other. They were exhausting and it was suffocating.
Perhaps death was a better mercy for the king’s captives, right?
"I could kill you, and no one would ask me shit," Zaffuto threatened again, hoping that this time if he bared his teeth at the woman, and growled as loud as he possibly could, Liana would run away, and let him be.
But then that didn’t work, at all.
The woman was not even the slightest bit bothered by whatever he was doing, it was like she was waiting for him to be done with his tantrums again, and she had to hope that this would be over soon so she could finally, finally get some fucking sleep.
"Yeah, yeah. Blah blah blah. As much as I would like to stand here and enjoy the sync of blood, I need you to come with me. You have two choices, as I see it, Shuten.
"Kill me, or come home with me," Liana said, knowing so well that Zaffuto despised his middle name. Then again, that was all the more reason Liana was using it.
She could tell that the name made him angrier, and perhaps he would give in to going back home if he was sick of hearing it from Liana. It should have worked but the kg was just as adamant as his queen, which was making the sight an unbearable one on so many levels.
"Who the fuck are you?" Zaffuto groaned in displeasure.
"Your Erasthai who’s getting pissed at every mosquito bite on my delicate skin because of you. You can continue your murders in the morning, but if another mosquito bites me, you will be dead, Shuten," Liana threatened in earnest.
The wolves stared at her like she had gone insane, threatening the beast of beasts like that like it wouldn’t have any consequences. Well, she was too pissed to even think of the consequences and her chuckling Erasthai was sitting making shit any better.
He just pissed her off even more.
"Well then, let’s get going. I wouldn’t want to be dead because of mosquitoes, he?" Zaffuto said, giving in finally. He knew she would bicker with him till morning and leave him so tired, and at the same time, she just wanted to see her get some rest.
The past three days had been hectic on her and he had seen it too. Maybe because he was always focused on her instead of his part of the job. Or maybe it was because he did his work faster so he would have enough time to stare at her.
He had seen how dedicated she had been and how she had interacted with his pipeline. She had treated them like a real queen should have and this woman had Zaffuto’s heart.
He couldn’t tell that to her, for fear of rejection, but she was making her way into that shall he had hidden his what in, and he wasn’t even complaining.
If Sadako were here, he would make fun of the king, but then that didn’t seem like a problem the king would mind. He cared for her.
"I knew you didn’t want to kill me. You’re just all bark and no bite with me," Liana said with a smile before complaining, "My feet hurt and this dress is uncomfortable."
The sight before the wolves was otherworldly, to say the least. The mad king had downed his tools and had decided to leave with his Erasthai. He had let the dead and undead be, and he was not even looking at the wolves anymore.
He was staring into the eyes of his queen like she was the best thing that ever happened to him. Honestly, she was right. He was always going to be all bark and no bite with her because of his affection for her.
He wanted to see what their bond would bring and while that was too much control to let the woman have over him, Zaffuto was willing to compromise. So, he stared at her, eyes softening as he hoped to know what she wanted him to do.
Did she want him to change her out of the dress and massage her feet? Did she want him to carry her back home and fix her up? Did she want Hilton to be her for her or was it all in his head this time too?
"Lili... what do you ask of me?" Zaffuto asked.
Liana could have sworn the man was the dumbest of all the men in their vicinity at the time. Then again, she had to remind herself that this was a man who knew nothing of affection.
This was going to be a long agonizing day for her, but she had chosen him, so she just had to figure out a way to deal with him, right?
"Do I have to think for you too?" Liana whined in displeasure even though the king’s lavender scent was doing a lot to calm her down. She appreciated what he was doing and she hoped that it wasn’t too hard for him.
Of course, she had also noticed how he was talking to her like she was someone he wanted to stay close to, much to the shock of the wolves, again.
"I... I’m covered in blood, Lili," Zaffuto breathed as he looked at himself. The blood of the wolves on him made him suddenly feel disgusted and unworthy of Erasthai’s attention.
He had never been self-conscious. He had never wanted to be that clean on the battlefield. Hell, he had never wanted to do anything to make someone happier with him and her as she stared at her, he wanted to be the best version of half.
It was an urge that he couldn’t fight, even though he would probably blame the moon for it the next time he woke up. But perhaps it is pointless trying to fight the mating bond now that they had marked each other, no?
"If you make me walk back to the place, I will never talk to you again," Liana said with a pout, surprising everyone who had been lined up for death by the mad king. It was a simple truth and one that seemed effective because the king resigned to his fate.
"And I was supposed to be the crazy one," Zaffuto sighed.
"Shuten..." Liana growled slowly.
"Don’t call me that," Zaffuto warned with a louder growl.
"Shuten."
"Gods, I hate you."
