Chapter 600: Substitute

Xiang Yu’s heart jumped for a fleeting second when he saw a familiar face. But his heart calmed when he saw that it was just an immitation, a cheap imitation at that of Han Xin.

His heart that had just calmed turned to rage. Anger surged through him, boiling beneath the surface. How dare she find a substitute of the man he loved and defile them in who knows how many ways.

He was rightfully pissed. It was as though Han Xin was reduced to an object that can be replaced for another.

"Recognize him," Peng Xiu said, her fingertip gliding around the man’s chest, mocking and playful.

"Why should I? I don’t know him?" Xiang Yu shot back, his voice steady but infused with rage.

"You are right," she replied with a smirk, "he is still not as good as the original."

In a swift motion, Peng Xiu drew a blade from her side and drove it into the man’s abdomen. He gasped, shock spreading across his face as he fell to the ground, a dark pool of blood blooming beneath him. Xiang Yu’s breath caught in his throat.

Peng Xiu wiped the blood off her blade, smearing it on the fabric of his clothes. She stood tall, a sinister smile replacing the gleam of her earlier bravado. "I know your team is in the city."

Xiang Yu crossed his legs, leaning back as if unbothered. "What about it?"

She perched on the table opposite him, her eyes narrowed. "Give me Han Xin, and I will let them go."

Xiang Yu snorted coldly, disbelief coursing through him. She was delusional if she thought he would give up his man. "That’s not going to happen."

Her lips twitched, anger flashing across her face. "Then let them all die." The weight of her words hung in the air, heavy and tense, like a storm about to break.

Her words landed like a thunderclap, heavy and threatening. The room pulsed with tension, hanging over them like a storm cloud ready to burst.

Peng Xiu’s fingers danced over the controls, and the screen flickered to life. Rooms and rooms came into view, each filled with a mass of zombies.

They were aggressive, thrashing against the secure doors, their growls echoing like distant thunder. The sight was chaotic and it was like a nightmare brought to reality.

"I can let them all out," Peng Xiu said, her voice dripping with malice. "And your people will perish with the city."

She watched Xiang Yu closely, seeking any sign of fear or desperation. But he remained calm, his expression unreadable as he studied the screen.

"How much do you remember?" he suddenly asked, his voice steady.

Her brows furrowed, confusion flickering across her face. Xiang Yu had long sensed that something was very wrong. It was different from the expected chain of events.

Plus, Peng Xiu had on the same crazed eyes he had seen before in the other worlds. In this world, she had never met Han Xin, nor had she had a chance to obsess over him. Yet here she was, attempting to get her bloody claws on him. Something was definitely not clean in the buttermilk. He could feel it.

Peng Xiu laughed, a chilling sound that echoed off the cold walls. Her expression morphed into something sinister, like a ghost poised to devour his very flesh.

"You... have had the advantage for so long... brother," she taunted. "Countless times you have ruined my plans over and over again. But this time..."

She stepped closer, her voice dripping with malice as she continued, "This time you will lose miserably. Not only will you have a bad ending, but a sad one, a tragic one.

And as a bonus, I will make those little followers of yours watch you die. Then I will kill them again, and fuck Han Xin on your cold corpse."

Xiang Yu had managed to keep himself composed through her twisted threats, but as siblings, they knew exactly how to stab and twist at each other despite not growing up together.

"And you think the old man will let you do what you want?" he shot back, forcing his voice to remain steady.

Peng Xiu sneered, her eyes glinting with a dangerous light. "If he didn’t have you interfering, I would have been living my dream."

The air between them crackled with tension. Xiang Yu could see the obsession in her eyes burning even more fiercely like this was her last chance to get what she wanted.

Peng Xiu suddenly acted her movements were quick and sudden as she pulled a gun from her coat, pointing it directly at Xiang Yu. "If you can’t give him to me then we have nothing else to talk about?" she spat before pulling the trigger.

Xiang Yu had seen this coming. His power surged through him as he engaged the demon blood seething in his veins. He dodged swiftly, feeling the rush of air as the bullet whizzed by him.

With a crack, she shot at the overhead lights. The room plunged into darkness, lit only by the faint light seeping through the tall windows.

Shadows enveloped Xiang Yu as he pressed himself against the wall, listening intently to the rustle of her movements. His breath remained steady, even as the tension in the air thickened.

He could hear her laugh, a manic sound that was all too familiar. "Hiding in the dark like a coward suits you?" she taunted. "You are a pathetic excuse, a disgrace to the blood in your veins."

Xiang Yu clenched his jaw but didn’t take her bait. He needed more time. She paced the room, venom lacing her words. "No wonder Father didn’t want you. He asked that hoe to drown you. You are a fucking disgrace."

A sneer curled on Xiang Yu’s lips, the least bit affected by her harsh insults. She was trying to get under his skin, to provoke him into revealing himself. But Xiang Yu remained unbothered and calm in the darkness. Suddenly, he felt a soft vibration in his pocket. The hacking process was complete. Xiang Yu sneered.

The sound, although faint, slipped through the stillness of the room. Peng Xiu’s attention sharpened.

In the blink of an eye, she pulled the trigger again. The loud bang echoed in the confined space as a bullet grazed by Xiang Yu, slipping further into the shadows.

Meanwhile, on the rooftop, Han Xin sensed something was amiss. He crouched low, his rifle aimed steadily at the darkened room below. His breath was calm, his focus sharp as he waited for the enemy to come into view.
