Chapter 62: The Girl in the Magic Mirror
Chapter 62: Chapter 62: The Girl in the Magic Mirror
A gentle, soft female voice spoke.
A silver gradient card had already appeared in his hand, and Magic Power was ready to be infused into it at any moment.
By the moonlight, Alka saw the unexpected guest sitting in his room.
Long, jade-green hair cascaded to her waist, complementing her fair skin and a pair of bright, green-tinged eyes.
It was an incredibly delicate and beautiful face.
Slender, pointed ears peeked out from her hair, and she wore an exceptionally elegant and luxurious gown.
Pointed ears?
Seeing this feature, Alka immediately thought of a race from fantasy tales.
Elves.
The issue was, Alka had never heard of such a race existing in this world.
Of course, it was also possible that he was simply ill-informed.
"Who are you?" Alka asked, remaining vigilant as he looked at the beautiful figure before him.
Hearing Alka’s words, the figure tilted her head and blinked, looking somewhat confused.
"Huh? You don’t recognize me?"
Alka was puzzled. What does she mean? Why would I recognize her?
The figure then reached out, picked something up from the table, and waved it in front of Alka in the moonlight.
It was that palm-sized Magic Mirror.
Seeing this, Akka instantly understood.
The young elven girl before him was likely the soul trapped in the Magic Mirror.
Inside it, he couldn’t hear the voice clearly, so Alka had always pictured a white-bearded old man.
It turned out to be a beautiful young girl.
"How did you get out? Weren’t you trapped in the Demon Realm?" Alka couldn’t help but ask; he hadn’t infused Magic Power into the Magic Mirror.
Upon hearing Alka’s words, the elf girl in front of him asked with some confusion, "Didn’t you already touch it? Once you touched it, I naturally emerged."
Huh? So that’s how it works?
As long as the Magic Power within his body was active, she could emerge on her own. He didn’t need to infuse Magic Power into the mirror to release her.
Then, wasn’t her rescue inevitable?
In other words, she had been trapped in the Magic Mirror for who knows how many years, untouched by anyone until now.
Of course, it was also possible that she was lying.
"Let me introduce myself, Alka. My name is Lucilia Anna Castelrol... Benavis."
And so, Lucilia recited her long string of names to Alka.
"Isn’t that a bit too hard to remember?"
It’s not that it was too hard to remember; I hadn’t remembered any of it, Alka couldn’t help but grumble internally.
"Is that so? Well, you can just call me Lucilia. That’s what my friends call me."
Wait a second.
"Are you reading my surface thoughts again?"
"Huh? Isn’t that what you wanted to say?"
Of course not!
"Alright then."
You read them again.
Alka calmed himself and suppressed his thoughts.
He frowned slightly, looking around.
If she can read my surface thoughts, does that mean... Alka paused. "This isn’t reality?"
"No, this is your dream."
Upon hearing this, Alka closed his eyes and suddenly fell back onto the bed.
Then he opened his eyes once more.
He wasn’t sure if it was due to possessing Magic Power or some other reason, but he could now wake from dreams at will.
This time, he awoke in his own room again, but the oil lamp by the bed was still lit.
The rhythmic crashing of waves against the ship’s hull filled his ears.
Looking at the Magic Mirror on the bedside table, Alka picked it up.
But the reflection in the mirror wasn’t his own face. Instead, it was Lucilia’s breathtakingly beautiful face. She was sitting on a stool, smiling and waving at him from within the mirror.
"Can’t you come out?" Akka couldn’t help but ask, as if talking to himself.
As his words fell, Lucilia, who had just been inside the mirror, materialized beside his bed.
She answered his question with her actions.
Then, Lucilia’s figure gracefully dissolved into a wisp of smoke, drifting to the spot where she had been sitting in his dream.
The books Alka had been flipping through still lay there. After settling onto the stool, she reached for one, but her hand passed right through it.
A distinctly disappointed expression appeared on Lucilia’s face.
Watching this unfold, Alka wondered, Does this mean she isn’t a physical entity right now, but still a Spiritual Body, like a soul?
"Can other people see you?"
Lucilia turned her head at Alka’s question, shook her head, and then nodded.
"Only you can see me at any time. As for others, I can choose who can see me and who can’t."
That’s good.
"Now that you can come out of the Magic Mirror, what will you do?" Alka couldn’t help but ask.
Hearing this, Lucilia thought for a moment and shook her head helplessly.
"I’m merely a soul. If it weren’t for the Magic Mirror, I would have dissipated long ago. I can still only travel with the Magic Mirror."
Upon hearing this response, Alka looked at the Magic Mirror in his hand.
He felt a strange sense of déjà vu.
He shook his head to dispel the thought.
"So, from now on, you can only go where I go?"
"Of course. If you discard the Magic Mirror, I’ll return to it, just like before," Lucilia said directly.
She understood her current situation perfectly and presented Alka with the choice directly.
Hearing this, Alka couldn’t help but ponder the situation.
The girl beside the bed gazed out at the moonlight, looking very serene.
"Alright then. I’ll be in your care from now on," Alka said.
Bathed in the moonlight, Lucilia’s face broke into a charming smile.
She turned her head, extended her right hand, and shook Alka’s hand.
"Thank you."
The tangible sensation from her hand made Alka look up at her in surprise.
"I can touch you?"
"Of course, but only you can touch me."
As she spoke, Lucilia waved her hand around the edge of the bed. Her hand passed right through the blankets, only becoming solid when she touched Alka.
Then how are you sitting on it? Alka couldn’t help but wonder.
However, in reality, Lucilia apparently couldn’t read Alka’s most prominent surface thoughts as she had in the dream.
"The outside world... it’s so nice."
Looking at the enchanting girl before him, Alka could empathize somewhat.
After all, she had been trapped in the Magic Mirror for an unknown number of years, preserving her sanity only through Deep Sleep.
If it were me, I’d have gone insane long ago.
"Sigh... I wonder how many years I’ve been dead. I don’t even know if my friends are still around," she mused, propping her chin with her hands as she gazed at the moonlight outside the window.
Hearing this, Alka grew even more curious about where Lucilia was from, with her exquisite face and elf-like ears.
The calendar system she mentioned was one Alka had never heard of.
It wasn’t just her calendar system; the one Alka used, and his current location, were equally unknown to Lucilia.
"Tomorrow, I’ll take you to look at a map. We’ll see if there’s anything familiar to you on the nautical charts."
If names yielded no clues, perhaps the geography would.
After all, landmasses don’t change that easily.
