Chapter 978: 145 Bewitched (second update)

"Hmph, what a buzzkill!"

Upon hearing the news, Lin Siyu rolled her eyes and huffed. She didn’t wait for Lady Jin to speak before impatiently flicking her meticulously adorned dress, ready to return to the mansion.

Lady Jin pursed her lips and scoffed coldly, "Maternal Aunt Lin, exactly whom do you accuse of ruining your mood? The Sixth Prince? Hmm, do you realize that’s a grave offense of disrespect? If certain individuals were to overhear this, it’s not just you who would be in trouble; the entire Li Mansion would be dragged into your funeral!"

"Exactly! A country bumpkin is still a country bumpkin, knowing nothing of the rules! If you’re seeking death, go do it yourself but don’t drag us into it, right, Madam?" A beautiful woman with arching eyebrows and a pointed chin scornfully glanced at Lin Siyu, then cozied up to Lady Jin with an ingratiating smile and fawned over her with a couple of flattering remarks.

This stunning beauty was none other than Li Chang’s newest little concubine, taken into the household over the past six months. She was a daughter from a humble family within the city. Although her family was not wealthy, they had a stable livelihood, making her one of the better-born among Li Chang’s concubines. Thus, she looked down upon Mrs. Liu and Lin Siyu, who once were Li Chang’s favorites.

Despite her arrogance, the little concubine was quite shrewd, knowing that as the Head of the Li Mansion, fawning over Lady Jin could never be wrong.

It was precisely because of this little concubine that Lin Siyu lost Li Chang’s favor, so naturally, she harbored a strong dislike for this woman. Seeing her siding with Lady Jin, she huffed disdainfully, "Indeed, I’m just a country bumpkin, not a delicate beauty from the town like someone. Yet, what’s the difference now? Aren’t we all just little concubines in the Li Mansion? If you have the capability, why don’t you become the Head and let me see!"

"You!" The little concubine clenched her fingers in fury, her phoenix eyes glaring daggers at Lin Siyu.

"Enough! Quarreling and being jealous in front of so many people, don’t you find it embarrassing?" Lady Jin chided them both, took her son Li Cheng’an by the hand, and turned to head back to the mansion.

Li Cheng’an couldn’t care less about the subtle undercurrents among his father’s concubines. As he passed by his elder brother Li Chengzhi, the little boy blinked his eyes and asked with concern, "Big brother, why do you look so pale? Are you feeling unwell?"

Li Chengzhi indeed wasn’t feeling well, having recently experienced weakness in his legs, a lack of strength throughout his body, and unexplained bouts of dizziness and nausea. Just then, having waited at the gate for a short while, his vision blurred and darkened.

"I’m fine, there’s nothing wrong," Li Chengzhi steadied himself with some effort and managed a strained smile.

When Lin Siyu heard Li Cheng’an’s question, she quickly looked over and noticed something off about Li Chengzhi. However, recalling his performance in bed these past few days, she reassured herself.

He’s still that vigorous. What could possibly be wrong?

With this thought, Lin Siyu sneered at Jin Lingling, a sarcastic curl forming at the corner of her mouth.

Lady Jin never liked this eldest son left behind by Li Chang’s first wife, and his wellbeing was of even less concern to her. But since her youngest son brought it up, she couldn’t very well ignore the question in front of all those people, so she furrowed her brow and feigned concern with a few words.

"Chengzhi, if you’re unwell, make sure to rest properly and don’t overexert yourself," she said.

Listening to her lukewarm concern, Li Chengzhi inwardly sneered and responded dismissively.

Lady Jin pressed her lips together, looking toward Jin Lingling and noticing her pale complexion. Recalling certain recent events, she shook her head. Even with her body in such a state, she still engaged in such strenuous activities, yet no amount of effort could yield a son.

However, she quite enjoyed the thought of Li Chengzhi failing to produce a male heir, for without one, her own youngest might have a chance to inherit the estate.

With this in mind, her mood improved considerably, and she happily returned to the mansion with her youngest son in tow.

With the Head having left for the mansion, the enchanting little concubine gave Lin Siyu a glare before sashaying away.

After teasing the little concubine, Lin Siyu was in high spirits. As she turned around, she saw Mrs. Liu and couldn’t help but sneer, "Look at you, Sister Liu. After the Master lost interest in me, didn’t he dote on you? And now, someone else has stolen his affection? Tsk tsk, in my opinion, what’s so good about that little vixen? Just a little younger and a little more flirtatious, right? You can’t compete with her youthfulness, but in terms of coquettishness, who in our mansion can surpass you, a sister originally from a brothel?"

Mrs. Liu’s face turned pale. Without a word, she sidestepped Lin Siyu, who was blocking the path, and entered the mansion.
