Chapter 909: 128 Silly son

"Why have you come back?" Dawang’s icy voice suddenly rang out behind him, startling Da Qiangzi into a shiver. He wiped off the greedy drool that had trickled down his chin, and his face, which had been full of joy, instantly twisted into a bitter gourd-like grimace.

"My son? My son! Dad has missed you to death! Dad has missed you to death!"

As Da Qiangzi turned around, his face immediately revealed that deep, affectionate expression only seen when seeing one’s child after many years apart. It has to be said, Da Qiangzi was truly an actor through and through; his tears came on cue.

"My son!"

Calling his son’s name over and over, Da Qiangzi quickly walked a few steps and embraced the already stunned Dawang, petting his back with indulgent hands. Yet in his heart, he was already feeling sentimental, nearly four years had passed since he last saw his elder son, who had grown so tall that he could barely wrap his arms around him.

Meanwhile, Dawang, tightly held by Da Qiangzi, was completely baffled. He had just been working in the back when he was told that a shabbily dressed man was looking for him. He was puzzled, not expecting it to be his own father!

Still, this destitute figure of his father was so different from the dazzling image he remembered.

However different the impression might be, when his father held him in his arms and called out his name, Dawang still felt a warm glow in his heart, and his eyes began to well up with tears. This was the feeling of a father-son connection, wasn’t it?

"You..." Dawang only got the word "you" out before he couldn’t speak any further. He wanted to call him dad, but remembering this man’s abandonment for a despicable woman made it impossible for him to say the word. And thinking of his mother’s suffering, he found it even harder to open his mouth.

After holding his son for a moment, Da Qiangzi pushed him away and looked into Dawang’s eyes again, pained by the tears he saw there.

Da Qiangzi’s nose suddenly grew sour, and this time the tears were not feigned; they came naturally.

This was the bond of kinship; when he had just seen Loudmouth, his heart was full of schemes, filled with a familiar sensation from years apart. But seeing his son, all that remained was intense longing.

"My son! Your dad has come back. These years must have been tough on you all." These words were truly from the bottom of his heart.

Dawang bit his lip and shook his head, "No, it wasn’t me who suffered; it was Mom."

That simple sentence immediately snapped Da Qiangzi back to reality.

Right, his purpose for coming here was to make amends with Loudmouth!

Remembering this, Da Qiangzi instantly got a burst of energy, and it was unclear if the sparkle in his eye was from the emotion of seeing his son or the anticipation of better days to come.

Following where Dawang’s words led, Da Qiangzi pretended to sigh while covertly watching his son’s reaction, "Yes, your mother has suffered these past years. It’s all my fault. My heart was blinded by lard that I fell for that little seductress! But, just now I went to ask your mother for forgiveness, and she..."

"What about Mom? Did she forgive you?" As soon as Dawang heard that Da Qiangzi had taken the initiative to apologize to Mom, he excitedly grasped Da Qiangzi’s hand, asking with a mixture of hope and anxiety.

Seeing his son’s reaction, Da Qiangzi became even more certain, looked down wistfully, and shook his head, "Your mother hates me, she wouldn’t forgive me."

Dawang was indeed very disappointed, and his grip on Da Qiangzi’s hand weakened, "I knew it. Mom would definitely not forgive you. If it were me, after what you did to us, I wouldn’t forgive you, either."

"My son, I’m sorry for letting you and your brother down, for letting down your mom." Da Qiangzi pinched his thigh hard, squeezing out two lines of real tears, "My son, I haven’t treated you well all these years. I’ve been a poor father! Do you hate me? Ah, I don’t expect you to forgive me. I just wanted to come back and see how you both were. Knowing that you are doing well eases my mind. If your mother truly won’t forgive me, then, then I will leave this sad place forever, whether in life or death, I am resigned to my fate."

Seeing Dawang’s trembling lips and his wavering demeanor, Da Qiangzi quickly added more fuel to the fire, "I still remember when you were a child, so small, so tender; I was afraid my coarse hands might hurt you, so I dared not move an inch and just sat on the edge of the kang, staring at your pale little face with a foolish grin. As you grew older, you wanted to go out and play, and I, not wanting you to tire from walking, would carry you the whole time, unable to bear the thought of you stepping down on your own. Heh, those were good times, I truly wish we could go back to then. Our family of four, living together so joyfully, you couldn’t imagine how happy we were."
