Chapter 713: 080 Brotherly Rift_2
Liu Zhiguang felt as though he had his breath stuck in his throat, so furious that he almost coughed up blood!
However, an even more blood-boiling matter for him was taking place inside the house. Lin Yuan was speaking with her elder maternal uncle, Liu Siliang, about sending Liu Zhiguang to learn martial arts. Meanwhile, his considerate younger brother just happened to drop by and mentioned that he himself planned to go to the town’s school after the new year, which stoked Liu Siliang’s dissatisfaction towards his eldest son. He couldn’t help but sigh, wondering how two brothers born from the same mother could be so different.
Lin Yuan raised her eyebrows, feeling that this second cousin had chosen this moment deliberately to bring up the matter—it was nothing but trouble!
As expected, Lin Yuan ended up not even mentioning Liu Zhiguang’s matter before Liu Siliang shut her down.
Well, that mission was a failure.
Lin Yuan returned to the courtyard, dejected, only to find Liu Zhiguang running up to her, his eyes shining brighter than ever: "How did it go? Did father and mother agree to your request right away?"
Lin Yuan forced a laugh and glanced at him, finding herself at a loss for words.
Such an expression—could it be, it hadn’t worked?
Liu Zhiguang’s smile stiffened, he swallowed twice, and his lips slowly lost their color: "You mean, you couldn’t make it happen?"
Embarrassed, Lin Yuan pursed her lips, really not daring to tell him it was actually because of Liu Zhiyang’s sabotage that she hadn’t succeeded.
"Well, elder cousin, maybe, you should consider a new dream? I, I will certainly help you achieve it."
Liu Zhiguang forced a bitter smile and shook his head.
"Let her tell him, Yuan’er. It’s actually because of me that you couldn’t persuade father and mother," Liu Zhiyang’s voice carried over from behind, nonchalant as always.
Lin Yuan was startled and quickly turned to tug at his sleeve, giving him meaningful glances one after the other. They were brothers after all. If the elder cousin found out that his own younger brother had been stabbing him in the back, wouldn’t they end up at odds?
Liu Zhiyang, however, seemed as though he hadn’t noticed Lin Yuan’s well intentions at all. He patted her shoulder, stepped forward, and confronted his brother: "Elder brother, father won’t let you study martial arts, all because of me."
"You?" Liu Zhiguang stood there, dazed for several breaths, before finally digesting his younger brother’s words. "Yuan’er, what’s going on?"
Lin Yuan bit her lip and simply explained what had happened inside the house, deliberately omitting Liu Zhiyang’s part in stirring up trouble to minimize the rift between the two brothers.
But just then, someone just had to muddy the waters.
Liu Zhiyang walked up from behind, his tone carrying an infuriatingly mocking challenge: "Elder brother, don’t blame our cousin. Father’s decision against your martial arts training is all because of me."
"You?" Liu Zhiguang looked incredulously at his brother, then turned a stupefied gaze on Lin Yuan. "Yuan’er, what—what exactly is going on?"
Lin Yuan shot Liu Zhiyang a glare, internally regretting why she had to insert herself into this mess. As she struggled internally to find the right words, hoping not to make Liu Zhiguang resent his brother...
But before she could gather her thoughts, Liu Zhiyang, fearlessly, went ahead and recounted the earlier events, finishing with a raised eyebrow towards his brother: "Elder brother, I’ve always told you, if only you kept your word to give me what you promised, I wouldn’t have so unkindly disrupted your plans."
What promise?
Lin Yuan was completely confused, while Liu Zhiguang became furiously enraged, his face turning deep red and his fists clenching so tightly that the veins on the backs of his hands stood out. Lin Yuan, fearing he might impulsively start a fight with his second cousin, hurriedly grabbed his arm and urgently pleaded, "Elder cousin, you need to calm down, just calm down. Second cousin, you need to apologize to elder cousin right now, do it quick!"
Apologize? Liu Zhiyang seemed to have heard the funniest joke ever, his right lip curling into a mocking smile.
This only succeeded in further inflaming Liu Zhiguang’s anger. With a swipe of his left hand, he freed his arm from Lin Yuan’s grip, and his right fist connected with Liu Zhiyang’s face with devastating precision.
Liu Zhiyang’s face immediately swelled up, and a trickle of blood slowly began to drip from the corner of his mouth.
Lin Yuan sharply inhaled, taken aback by Liu Zhiguang’s forceful punch. He didn’t hesitate to strike his own brother that fiercely, without as much as blinking an eye.
"Second cousin, are you—?"
Looking at Liu Zhiyang, although Lin Yuan felt he had it coming, she still couldn’t help feeling a pang of pity for him. After all, these two were biological brothers. Wouldn’t it be a great loss if such a trifling matter led to a breach between them?
