Chapter 594: Chapter 594: Lin Yongcheng Humiliated (4)_1

After circling a wide arc, Lin Yongcheng finally found the back entrance to Li Mansion. Following his previous lesson, he no longer carried his initial arrogance. With a jocular smile, he clasped his hands together and said to an old woman cracking melon seeds by the door, "Sister, I’d like to see Maternal Aunt Lin; could you please announce my arrival?"

The fat old woman didn’t even lift her eyelids; melon seed shells were scattered all over, and with a "pfft," one of the shells sprayed onto the back of Lin Yongcheng’s hand.

Lin Yongcheng almost vomited with disgust, but remembering he was the supplicant, he dared not make a fuss. Instead, he smiled and flicked the melon seed shell off, rubbing the back of his hand against his clothing.

The fat old woman still did not look at him and didn’t say a word. She just wiped the corner of her mouth with her right hand and then stretched out her hand toward him, her two fingers pinching and twisting.

Lin Yongcheng was startled and took a moment to realize that the fat old woman was hinting for a tip. He wanted to curse, but he dared not offend the only person who could relay his message. He painfully took out the last three copper coins from his sleeve, thought for a moment, put one back, and then placed the remaining two in the palm of the old woman’s hand, saying cheerfully, "Thank you for the trouble, sister."

The old woman weighed the coins disdainfully, sneered, tucked the two copper coins into her bosom, and grunted impatiently, "Maternal Aunt Lin just left the mansion and isn’t here. Go wait elsewhere."

Lin Yongcheng wanted to curse even more! He had spent two copper coins for information, only to be told that Lin Siyu was not at the mansion! Obviously, this old woman was deliberately trying to swindle his Silver!

"Why didn’t you say that earlier?"

With a contemptuous flick of her eyelids, the fat old woman replied, "Say earlier? I don’t even know who you are, why should I tell you? Besides, what standing does Maternal Aunt Lin have to be seeing someone like you so readily, a poor and lowly scholar?"

Being called a poor and lowly scholar infuriated Lin Yongcheng. Since he had arrived in Zhuma Town at the age of fourteen to study, no one had ever looked down on him. He could not believe that today he was being humiliated by an old hag!

"Who are you calling a poor and lowly scholar? Huh? Make yourself clear!"

The fat old woman was not one to be trifled with. Seeing how loud he was getting, she raised her own voice, which was several notches louder than Lin Yongcheng’s, "Who’s the poor and lowly scholar? Surely it’s you! What, you don’t recognize it yourself? Just look at the clothes you wear; even the young servant who empties the night jars in our mansion is better dressed than you! Hmph, you gave me just two copper coins, and you think you’re some rich man? Don’t bring up your connection to Maternal Aunt Lin with me. You’re nothing but a poor relative from the family, coming here to cling to ties and beg for Silver. Go, wait on the side!"

Lin Yongcheng was so insulted he couldn’t come up with a retort. He hemmed and hawed for a long while and finally just turned red with anger, extending his hand and shouting, "You, you foul old hag, taking Silver without doing your job! Give me back my money, give it back!"

"I’ll give it back to you! Just two copper coins, not even enough for granny to sip a cup of tea!" the fat old woman retorted, fishing the two copper coins out of her bosom and carelessly tossing them to the ground. She didn’t even glance at Lin Yongcheng, settling back onto a small stool, and continued to crack her melon seeds.

The maids alongside her all rushed over, started to knead her back, and pinch her arms, urging her to calm down. One of the maids even spitefully spat at Lin Yongcheng in anger, which infuriated him!

Lin Yongcheng didn’t want to deal with these maids and old women, so he picked up the two copper coins from the ground, carefully wiped them off, and tucked them back into his sleeve. Along with the one he had put back earlier, these three copper coins were all he had left, and he couldn’t afford to lose them.

After securing the copper coins, Lin Yongcheng muttered to himself and moved aside. He had already spent a good while at the front gate, completely exhausted. Now, he was not inclined to stand any longer. But there wasn’t a single place to sit, and although he wanted to ask those at Li Mansion’s back door for a small stool, he just couldn’t bring himself to face those disdainful stares.

After wandering about, Lin Yongcheng finally sat down beneath a tree. Utterly exhausted, he no longer cared about appearances, and spread his legs out wide, resembling a laborer from the countryside with no distinction at all.

Seeing him like this, the fat old woman spat a loogie of contempt, "Country bumpkin!"

Lin Yongcheng was angry yet couldn’t vent any of it. Tired and uncomfortable, he just hoped to see his younger sister soon, get some Silver from her, and then indulge himself at Chunfeng Building.

As if his hopes had been heard, Lin Siyu’s carriage arrived shortly after he had seated himself on the ground without much rest.

At first, he didn’t notice it because there were quite a few carriages delivering food to the back gate at that moment. Just before, there had been one delivering chickens, ducks, fishes, and meats.

So, it wasn’t until Lin Siyu stepped down from her carriage and the fat old woman dutifully called out "Maternal Aunt Lin," that Lin Yongcheng realized what was happening. Fearful of missing his chance, he rolled over on the ground and staggered to his feet, running over.

"Sister, sister!"

Actually, Lin Yongcheng hadn’t caught a glimpse of his sister. He only saw a woman in a pink long dress with a Gold hairpin in her hair entering the back door and, out of desperation, he called out.
