Chapter 566: Chapter 566: Panpan and Ying Tao Conspire (4)_1
"Shocked, aren’t you?" Panpan gave a self-deprecating smile. "When I first had the thought, I was shocked too. But for my deceased sister, I had to make Li Chengzhi die! Even if he doesn’t die, I still want him ruined, disgraced, and everyone clamoring against him!"
"Your sister, she..."
As soon as her sister was mentioned, Panpan’s eyes immediately reddened and filled with tears, yet her tone remained stubborn and strong: "My sister, when she was out, was assaulted by Li Chengzhi, he, he..."
Panpan fiercely wiped away her tears, roaring with anger: "And yet Li Chengzhi refused to acknowledge it, and that dog official Li Chang sheltered his own son, causing my sister to be disgraced and suffer from people’s idle gossip. In the end, she, she took her own life."
Ying Tao was shocked. She had vaguely heard about this incident from the maids in the mansion, mentioning that Li Chengzhi, while playing outside the city, coincidentally met a pretty village girl who was alone.
He was accustomed to messing around with women in the city and wanted to have his way upon seeing a pretty one. Though, the women in the city were usually from decent households, so he couldn’t be too brazen, but with rural girls, he was far less concerned and thus forced himself upon her.
What happened afterward, she didn’t know, only to discover now that the girl had committed suicide. And her sister, a woman of strong character, for the sake of avenging her sister, had managed to infiltrate the enemy’s lair alone. Serving as a maid was no trivial matter, and she knew this all too well.
Unconsciously, Ying Tao found herself admiring the young girl before her who was several years her junior.
Hearing Panpan’s words, Shen Dajun slammed his fist against the wall, his knuckles cracking: "There’s not a single good soul in this Li Mansion!"
Ying Tao and Panpan silently agreed. There really wasn’t a single good soul. Li Chang played the role of an official yet often frequented brothels. Li Chengzhi, uneducated and ill-tempered, had learned his father’s lecherous ways perfectly. Lady Jin, despite seeming amiable, was only so as long as nothing threatened her or her son’s status. Should anything imperil her position or that of her son, not to mention the pregnant Mrs. Liu, even Li Chengzhi would likely be disposed of by her.
Thinking this, Panpan suddenly had an idea: "Sister Yingtao, I think this man must be the true love of Mrs. Liu, right?"
Since Shen Dajun had already admitted it, Ying Tao couldn’t deny it even if she wanted to, and she reluctantly nodded.
Panpan suddenly spoke in a hushed tone and stepped forward, extending an olive branch: "In fact, just now, Lin Siyu and the others did not see you at all; it was because I didn’t want to see Li Chengzhi that I accidentally discovered you. Sister Yingtao, rest assured, I won’t tell anyone about this, but I do hope you can do me a favor."
"What favor?" Ying Tao asked instinctively, immediately regretting it, her voice filled with panic: "You’re not thinking of having me help you kill someone, are you? No, no, I dare not! Killing someone means losing one’s head!"
Panpan quickly restrained her flailing hands: "I’m well aware it means losing one’s head. I wouldn’t do a losing deal where I exchange my life for Li Chengzhi’s dog life!"
"Then what do you want me to do?" As long as it’s not about killing, it’s fine.
Panpan glanced at Shen Dajun, then at Ying Tao, and said: "I want to join forces with Mrs. Liu. Together, we’ll take down Lin Siyu and Li Chengzhi. That way, I can avenge myself, and your master can reunite with her true love."
Ying Tao and Shen Dajun exchanged glances. The plan sounded good, but even if Lin Siyu and Li Chengzhi were taken down, could Mrs. Liu leave the Li Mansion? It wouldn’t be taking down Li Chang.
Panpan noticed their hesitation and whispered: "In this matter, we still need a helper, and that is Madam Jin. We are insignificant on our own, and even if we reveal this matter, no one would believe us. But Madam Jin is different; she’s the Madam County Magistrate, with people and money at her disposal. Just let her catch wind of this news; she’ll send someone to follow Lin Siyu. With evidence in hand, wouldn’t that be enough to bring them down?"
Panpan’s suggestions made some sense.
After a moment’s thought, Ying Tao said: "But why would Madam Jin believe us? And even if she did, how would she readily let Mrs. Liu go?"
This was indeed a problem. Actually letting Mrs. Liu go was quite straightforward; when Mrs. Liu had entered the mansion, Madam Jin had done everything to prevent it. Now that Mrs. Liu had fallen out of favor, she posed almost no threat to Madam Jin. With a nod from her, she could easily send Mrs. Liu away under any pretext.
Moreover, by sharing this explosive news with her, she could kill two birds with one stone. Li Chengzhi having an affair with his own father’s woman would be unacceptable to Li Chang, surely enraging him! Thus, she’d not only remove Lin Siyu from her sights but could secure her own son, Li Cheng’an, as the sole legitimate heir. Why wouldn’t she do it?
Even though the problem seemed easily resolvable, what they needed most was someone who could negotiate with Madam Jin. Mrs. Liu was the most suitable person, but she was too timid and naive; even in Madam Jin’s presence, she would likely be talked in circles.
Panpan had considered stepping forward herself, but being only ten years old, Madam Jin wouldn’t take her seriously. The same went for Ying Tao, who was just a maid and in no position to speak on behalf of her master.
Yet they couldn’t find anyone to stand up for them on such short notice, leaving them anxious and distressed.
