"Let the chefs take care of the cooking. You’d better sit here and chat with me." Princess Anle, enjoying her chat with Lin Yuan, didn’t want her wandering into the kitchen.

Xia Zheng, however, guessed Lin Yuan’s intention, realizing that she wanted to cook personally for Princess Anle. Although he was concerned about her becoming tired, the thought of her filial devotion to his mother touched his heart profoundly.

"Mother, I’ll go with Yuanyuan," said Xia Zheng, his sleeves drooping, ready to take Lin Yuan’s hand. But the hand that he would normally grasp with ease now felt like a slippery fish, eluding his grip.

Lin Yuan shot him a subtle glare, avoiding the hand of the mischief-maker, and smiled, "You stay here and keep Madam company, don’t go to the kitchen. I’ll be back soon."

Having said that, she didn’t wait for Xia Zheng and walked out on her own.

Princess Anle, not understanding the situation, simply took it as Lin Yuan being responsible. She patted Xia Zheng and admonished, "Look at Yuanyuan, and you’re the Young Master of Fuman Building, yet you neglect everything in the building and only know how to run around outside."

Xia Zheng chuckled and remained silent, not planning to tell Princess Anle about Lin Yuan’s desire to cook herself, as she would certainly have not allowed her to do so. Since it was Lin Yuan’s wish born of filial piety, he decided to support her in it.

He only sat for a short while before a nagging worry made him find an excuse and slipped out.

Princess Anle saw right through his intention, glowered at him, and scolded playfully, "It’s true, once you get a wife, you forget your mother."

Xia He joked softly in her ear, "Aren’t you the same, Madam? With a daughter-in-law, you’re even unhappy with your own son now."

"You impudent girl!" Princess Anle pressed her lips together and gave Xia He a stern look, "That’s enough, I don’t need the two of you attending to me any longer. Stop hovering around me, it’s boring. I see there’s quite a commotion outside, why don’t you two go have a look? Buy something if you like it. And don’t forget to bring back something for Chun Yu and Dong Mei."

With Princess Anle’s permission, Xia He and Qiu Ju joyfully agreed and went out hand in hand.

Xiao Linshuang couldn’t sit still and ran out after them. Xia He and Qiu Ju were particularly fond of this little girl, and hearing her say she would show them around, they were even more pleased to take her along.

Only Princess Anle and Lao Fan were left in the room. Princess Anle suddenly turned serious and said, "Sir, I want to thank you for what you did back then."
