Chapter 1194: 103 Rash (second watch)

Lady Liu was not easy to fool, but that didn’t mean the other people in the house were, at least Lao Fan and Sister Chang were not so easily deceived.

Lao Fan hummed and stood up to return to his own room. Before leaving, he didn’t forget to give Xiao Linshuang a glare, "All you know is to eat! After this, you’re not allowed to run around anymore, properly go learn medicine at the Hall of Salvation!"

Xiao Linshuang pouted and pulled a face at Lao Fan.

Sister Chang also stood up, smiled, shook her head at Lin Yuan and the others, and urged them to rest early, to continue studying the rules tomorrow.

Seeing Sister Chang’s shrewd eyes, Lin Yuan knew that the day’s events couldn’t be hidden from her, but she was still grateful that Sister Chang did not expose them in front of Lady Liu and Lin Jiaxin, otherwise Mr. and Mrs. Liu would have stayed up all night feeling guilty and worried.

Knowing that the children were tired from playing outside all afternoon, Lady Liu did not say more and hurriedly urged them to go back to their rooms to sleep.

On the way to the back yard, Xiao He glanced around at the quiet surroundings and couldn’t help but ask, "Big sister, I didn’t dare to ask at Yao Mansion, but now that we’re back home, I have a question I want to ask."

Lin Yuan nodded with a smile, signaling her to ask.

Xiao He furrowed her brows in wonder, "Does Miss Guo and Miss Cheng really have bugs on them? How did they start itching right when they were about to be searched? Could it be, big sister, that you released those bugs?"

Xiao He looked at Lin Yuan suspiciously, but she saw not only Lin Yuan but also Lin Wei and Xiao Linshuang all burst into laughter.

Lin Yuan patted Xiao Linshuang’s shoulder, "You better hurry up and tell your third sister what actually happened."

Xiao Linshuang grinned and took Xiao He by the hand, "Third sister, this matter, of course, you have to ask me."

As it turned out, there were no bugs at all. When deciding to attend the banquet, Lin Yuan had already foreseen that something unusual would happen at today’s banquet and had asked Xiao Linshuang to bring some highly effective medicine that wouldn’t harm a person’s life in anticipation.

Sure enough, Guo Mei and Cheng Yuexiu had really set a trap to slander them. And it was true that Xiao Linshuang and Lin Wei really needed to use the restroom, but they keenly noticed that the maid guiding them was overly enthusiastic, so they were extra cautious, always on guard against others getting too close.

Later, during the argument, Xiao Linshuang, upon receiving a signal from Lin Yuan, was the first to rush forward and tug on Guo Mei and Cheng Yuexiu’s clothes—not only to apply the itch powder onto them but also to give Cheng Yuexiu a chance. As expected, Cheng Yuexiu fell for it and during the scuffle, she stuffed the hairpin she had found from Han Huijuan into Xiao Linshuang’s clothes. Xiao Linshuang was always wary of them, and after getting the hairpin, she swiftly transferred it onto Guo Mei, which explained why the hairpin was found on Guo Mei.

The itch powder on Guo Mei and Cheng Yuexiu also had its tricks; the powder was in two parts, one on Guo Mei and the other on Cheng Yuexiu. It would not take effect immediately after being applied but would only work after the powders on the two of them came into contact and reacted with each other.

After saying all this, Xiao Linshuang’s eyes rolled around, and she remembered the handful she had wiped on Cheng Yuexiu when she left and chuckled mischievously.

Lin Yuan was asking Xiao He if she understood; she didn’t notice Xiao Linshuang’s strange behavior—if she had, she would have definitely questioned it.

Xiao He finally understood the ins and outs of what happened today, and with a sympathetic look at Xiao Linshuang, she sighed, "No wonder they say that a doctor should never be offended. Now I finally understand."

Xiao Linshuang puckered her lips and warmly took Xiao He’s hand, promising, "Third sister, don’t worry, although my medical skills are not the best, my heart is. If they hadn’t deliberately offended me, I wouldn’t have used that itch powder to punish them. Besides, it’s just itch powder, it won’t last long and won’t endanger anyone’s life."

Xiao Linshuang’s words were naturally clear to Xiao He, and her earlier comment was not meant to blame her; it was just a kind reminder from an older sister. She truly treated Xiao Linshuang as her own younger sister and naturally didn’t want her to use her superior medical skills for harming others.

The sisters each returned to their own rooms, and, exhausted from the day’s tumult, quickly fell into slumber.

However, while Lin Yuan’s house remained peaceful and undisturbed, a catastrophe had struck the Prime Minister’s Mansion!

In the dead of night, Su Qiu Yu suddenly developed a high fever and became delirious, mumbling "Brother Zheng" over and over in a confused haze.

Yaner was on night duty and, half-asleep, heard Su Qiu Yu talking in her room. She thought she was being called and repeatedly said "Miss," but received no response from Su Qiu Yu.

With an ominous feeling, Yaner hurried into the room to check and discovered Su Qiu Yu soaked in sweat, her cheeks flushed red, and murmuring deliriously.

Yaner, trembling, touched her forehead and found it almost burning hot; she immediately went to the front yard to report to Prime Minister Su and Madam Su.

Prime Minister Su had two sons and a daughter, and he doted on his little girl, keeping her as the apple of his eye. She had fallen ill once before in Zhuma Town, and since then, she had been cared for even more meticulously.

How could they have anticipated that their precious daughter would suddenly come down with a high fever today?

Madam Su, a typical lady of high society, broke down and cried on the spot upon seeing her daughter like this.

Su Zhe, known as the clever fox in the imperial court, had engaged in verbal battles with countless people there, but today, faced with his daughter’s illness, he was instantly thrown into a panic.

"Quick, go call the doctor!"

Su Zhe, with his sharp eyes, directed Yaner to hurry and fetch the doctor.

Yaner stood stunned, wiping away tears and nodding repeatedly. She quickly scrambled to her feet and stumbled toward the door.

Just as she went out, she bumped straight into someone.

"Big, Big Young Master!"

Su Tianyou’s brows furrowed. Even though he had been woken in the middle of the night, his attire was still neat and tidy, his hair perfectly in place, and if not for the weariness of being roused from sleep on his face, one might think he had not slept at all.

Yaner hung her head in dread, her legs starting to shake. The Big Young Master was famously strict in the mansion, even more formidable than old Master Su, and rarely showed a smiling face, even to Su Qiu Yu.

Su Tianyou took one glance at the chaotic room and halted. His little sister’s room was not a place he, as the eldest brother, could enter at will.

"How is the Miss doing?"

At his question, Yaner shivered suddenly and quickly replied, "The Miss has a high fever and is unconscious."

While she was speaking, a loud cry suddenly came from the room – it was Madam Su’s wail: "Oh heavens! Qiu Yu, Qiu Yu has developed a rash!"
