Chapter 1193: 102 Clothing (Part 1)

"Please!" Lin Yuan waved his hand to remove the large hand that was pinching her cheek and complained, "Do you think I, Lin Yuan, can be bullied by others? If you really wanted to see, you should have checked out those young ladies coming from the Yao Mansion!"

No sooner had Lin Yuan finished pouting her words than she heard suppressed laughter in the darkness. Her mind racing, she finally realized that Xia Zheng must have been waiting at the entrance of the Yao Mansion for some time. Given that, how could he possibly not have heard what those ladies who left early were saying?

"What are you laughing at? Did you hear something?" Lin Yuan pushed his hand from around her waist to one side and sat up straight to look at him, but her eyesight was not as good as Xia Zheng’s. Even being this close, she still had difficulty clearly discerning the expression on his face.

Xia Zheng steadied her waist with both hands and gently caressed it, chuckling, "You guessed? What else could I laugh at? Of course, it’s you. Attending a banquet and still bringing a dagger; luckily you weren’t entering the Palace; otherwise, the Palace guards would definitely have taken you into custody!"

So that was it.

Lin Yuan raised her eyebrows and also smiled, "The Palace, huh? If there were people in the Palace who looked at me the wrong way, I wouldn’t mind bringing a dagger inside at all!"

Despite her words, the mention of the Palace made Lin Yuan think of what Xia Zheng had told her, and she felt somewhat frustrated.

Xia Zheng, oblivious to her change in mood, rested his chin on the top of her head and said softly, "I had guessed that you would be ostracized at the banquet, but I didn’t expect such an incident to occur."

Lin Yuan remained silent, as he must also be aware of the incident with her using the dagger to pare apple blossoms, and thus he would surely know about Cheng Yuexiu and Guo Mei falsely accusing them as well.

However, she had already taken care of that matter herself. Although she hadn’t exposed the real mastermind, Su Qiuyu, there were long days ahead of them, and this wasn’t the only issue between them. She would deal with the rest slowly over time.

The Yao Mansion was not far from Lin Yuan’s house; during their conversation, they had already arrived at the front door of Lin Yuan’s house.

Feeling the carriage coming to a stop, Xia Zheng nevertheless stubbornly refused to release Lin Yuan until he heard Lin Wei and several others jumping off another carriage and preparing to come call for her. Only then did Lin Yuan quickly push Xia Zheng away and, faster than lightning, pecked him on the cheek before turning and hurrying off the carriage.

"I’m here. Lin Yi, take the carriage to the back door," she called out, her voice tinged with nervousness as she greeted the others and returned to the mansion. The coachman on the other carriage also drove off towards the back.

Lin Yi stood beside the carriage but showed no intention of leaving.

After a while, the carriage curtain stirred, and Xia Zheng’s agile figure leaped down from the carriage. He then instructed Lin Yi before leisurely strolling away.

Watching Xia Zheng’s relaxed departing figure, Su Qiuyu clenched her fists in frustration and jealousy inside a carriage at the Yao Mansion’s entrance and then fiercely lowered the carriage curtain.

"Brother Zheng was indeed inside! That little bitch Lin Yuan, what a slut! She only knows how to seduce Brother Zheng!"

A pair of delicate hands tightly clutched the carriage wall, and neatly manicured nails cracked under the force, revealing a faint hint of bloody streaks.

Yaner kept her head lowered, not daring to speak or even to breathe loudly, afraid that her young lady’s anger might spread to her.

However, her silence did not mean she was safe.

Su Qiuyu coldly sneered a few times and ordered, "You will visit the palace tomorrow, and it would be best if you could see your aunt in person."

Yaner unconsciously shrank her neck, knowing that Empress Su had been out of touch for some time now. Would it still be useful to seek her out?

Although she thought this, Yaner still nodded and quickly agreed.

When she returned home, Lady Liu, Lin Jiaxin, and even Sister Chang and Lao Fan were all waiting in the living room.

Seeing the sisters return, Lady Liu quickly stood up, looking them over from head to toe to make sure they were unharmed before she could relax. However, when she saw that everyone’s clothes except for Lin Yuan’s had been changed, her worry resurfaced.

"What happened? Why have you all changed your clothes? Did something happen? Did anyone bully you? Did they?"

Looking at Lady Liu, who was so anxious that her lips had gone dry, Lin Yuan felt a pang of distress. Though Lin Jiaxin and Lao Fan did not speak, from the concern in their eyes, it was clear they had also been restless at home during these past hours.

However, fortunately, they had prepared a story before entering the house, agreeing not to mention the fight so as not to worry the family.

Xiao Linshuang took hold of Lady Liu’s arm and said coyly, "Mother, if I tell you what happened, please don’t get angry, alright?"

Hearing Xiao Linshuang’s preface, Lady Liu grew even more anxious, "It’s alright, tell me. Mother won’t get angry."

Lady Liu braced herself for the worst news, but what she heard was not what she had imagined.

Xiao Linshuang said pitifully, "Mother, it’s all because the food at Miss Yao Mansion was too delicious. I saw delicacies like shark’s fin and bird’s nest, and I couldn’t restrain myself. I ate too hastily and spilled the soup, which, just so happened, splashed all over my second and third sisters. Big sister was sitting farther away, so her clothes didn’t get dirty."

Pausing for a moment, Xiao Linshuang lifted her misty eyes and looked at Lady Liu with pouting lips, "Mother, please don’t be mad, okay? I promise I won’t be so reckless when I go out to banquets in the future."

So it was just spilt soup. Lady Liu breathed a sigh of relief, pulling them close for another careful check, "If it’s just spilled, then it’s spilled. Did it scald you? Come, let Mother see."

"No, Mother, the soup was no longer hot; it just dirtied our clothes," Xiao Linshuang said as she burrowed into Lady Liu’s embrace, taking the opportunity to act spoiled.

Lin Wei secretly chuckled and chimed in, "Mother, the soup was really oily, and large grease stains covered the clothes. I don’t think they can be washed out."

Lady Liu doted on Xiao Linshuang, caressing her cheek and pinching the soft flesh there, feeling utterly relieved. She laughed and said, "It’s just a few clothes; if they can’t be washed, then we won’t wash them. I’ll ask Butler Zhou to make new clothes for you girls soon."

"Oh, that’s great," Lin Wei and Xiao He exchanged looks and silently stuck out their tongues.

Lin Yuan also burst into laughter, seeing that her mother still had no idea what had really happened. If she knew that the clothes she casually talked about discarding were all quite expensive, she would surely be heartbroken. But they couldn’t keep them anyway, since the clothes bore rips from the fight with Guo Mei and Cheng Yuexiu; if Lady Liu saw that, the gig would be up. Thus, as soon as she entered the house, she had Du Ruo and Shui Xian take those clothes straight to the kitchen to destroy the evidence completely.
