Chapter 1123: 039 Zhuangzi_4

"What, aren’t you embarrassed?" He Xiaodong scolded with a blush and a glaring eye, her lips accused him, yet the happiness in her eyes couldn’t be hidden.

He Chengfang grinned, revealing a row of pearly white teeth, "I am the future son-in-law, we’re already engaged after all."

"Engagement is just an engagement, we are not married yet." While speaking, He Xiaodong lowered her head and lifted the clean cloth covering the small basket to reveal a teapot, two cups, and some homemade fried cakes.

"Miss, young master, father came home and said you both wanted to come see this villa, so he sent me to bring the keys to the yard. He also mentioned you have been out since early morning and must be hungry, so he asked me to bring some snacks for you."

He Xiaodong took out the plates somewhat shyly and chuckled: "This, these are the fried cakes I made myself. They might not look great, nor are they as tasty as the ones in the Capital city’s restaurants, but still, they taste quite good. Would you like to try?"

Truth be told, those fried cakes indeed didn’t look very appealing, a bit scorched, probably because she hadn’t controlled the heat well. But Lin Yuan wasn’t fussy, especially given the wholehearted kindness before her. Repeatedly assuring it was fine, she picked up her chopsticks and tried a fried cake.

The fried cake was not only scorched on the outside but also very oily and sweet on the inside. Lin Yuan took one bite and didn’t want any more. Yet, not wanting to make He Xiaodong feel embarrassed, she took a sip of tea and bravely ate down the fried cake.

Seeing her eat with such heartiness, He Xiaodong and He Chengfang were both delighted and urged her to eat more.

However, only Xia Zheng, who knew Lin Yuan well, realized she didn’t like the fried cake. Amusingly, he pursed his lips, picked up a teacup to hide his smile.

But no matter how much he concealed it, Lin Yuan still noticed his schadenfreude. Rolling her eyes, she picked up a fried cake with her chopsticks and brought it to Xia Zheng’s lips, mischievously smiling, "Come on, Young Master Xia, weren’t you saying how hungry you were just now? Here, try this fried cake, it’s really delicious. Don’t be shy, help yourself."

Xia Zheng’s mouth twitched as he stared at the dark, slightly greasy fried cake, and swallowed hard.

He Xiaodong and He Chengfang thought the pair were engaging in playful banter, and very considerately sat to one side, as He Chengfang took out all the keys of the villa’s small courtyards from his waist and placed them on the table, one after another.

By the time he was done, Lin Yuan had already sweetly fed Xia Zheng a whole piece of the cake.

It was indeed a fried cake, too oily and too sweet!

Xia Zheng picked up his cup and took a big gulp of water to wash down the greasy taste in his mouth, feeling like he wouldn’t be able to eat any oily food for a month.

Seeing that both of them had stopped eating, He Xiaodong started placing the keys from the table onto a small table in front of both guests, detailing each one as if reciting treasures from home.

"This is the front courtyard’s east key, this is the west courtyard’s key. This is the back gate’s key, this is the corner gate’s key. These are the keys for the west side of the front and back courtyards, these two are for the east side. And this one, is the storeroom’s key. This one is the accounts room’s key."

There were nearly a dozen keys in all sizes, and He Xiaodong remembered and detailed each one perfectly, without any mistakes.

Lin Yuan widened her eyes as more and more keys appeared, still unable to understand how she could distinguish one from another when they all looked so similar.
