Chapter 1098: 030 Glaze (second update)
After leaving Princess Anle’s place, Lin Yuan shook off Xia Zheng’s arm, complaining, "I hadn’t even said goodbye to the princess yet, why did you pull me away like that? It’s so impolite!"
Xia Zheng chuckled and continued to hold her hand, leading her out, "Do you think she’s like those old-fashioned old ladies of the Capital city? She won’t mind that much at all! Hey, see that? That’s my courtyard! Come on, I’ll take you over to have a look!"
Pointing at a very elegant courtyard not far away, Xia Zheng pulled her and quickly headed there.
Although Xia Zheng was a very money-loving person, the yard he lived in was very simply decorated, and the items inside had a lot of character and didn’t resemble those of the nouveau riche, which were full of gold and silver.
As they entered Xia Yuan’s courtyard, Dong Qing called out "Young Master" loudly as he came up to greet them, but upon seeing Lin Yuan, he immediately clamped his mouth shut and greeted Lin Yuan very respectfully.
Lin Yuan playfully patted his shoulder and said in her gentlest and most approachable voice, "Don’t worry, as long as you don’t speak out of turn, I won’t cut out your tongue."
Dong Qing chuckled and immediately promised, "Rest assured, Young Lady, I will definitely keep my mouth shut, not a word out of place—ooh no, not even a letter!"
Then, he eagerly took the lead, explaining the layout of the entire yard and the purpose of the various rooms.
Whether it was several room or trees, or even where in the yard the iris looked nice, and which patch of grass was thriving the most, Dong Qing knew it all.
Seeing Dong Qing’s habitually loose lips, Lin Yuan was speechless and facepalmed.
Xia Zheng was so annoyed that he kicked him in the butt, pushing him aside, and said gruffly, "You’ve stolen all my lines, what is there left for me to say!"
After that, he pulled Lin Yuan by the hand into the house to show her his collection of intriguing items.
Watching their backs as they entered the house, Dong Qing rubbed his buttocks, a bit resentfully pouting.
Just as he was thinking about keeping his mouth shut from now on, Dong Qing’s eyes slanted, and he spotted the other young servants and maids gathered at the entrance of the courtyard, all evidently curious about the new Second Young Lady.
It seemed everyone was quite curious about the new Second Young Lady.
"Brother Dong Qing, come over here!" a young servant chuckled, waving him over.
Dong Qing’s eyes lit up, feeling his tongue itch again, he sniffed and scurried over to tell them the story of Xia Zheng and Lin Yuan. His quick little legs clearly had forgotten about the recent kick.
Although the courtyard was decorated very plainly, the interior of the house was extremely rich. Upon entering Xia Zheng’s room, the first phrase that flashed through Lin Yuan’s mind was ’wondrous and strange.’
And wasn’t it wondrous and strange? There were two whole Hundred Treasures Shelves completely filled with all sorts of novel items.
Lin Yuan walked to one of the Hundred Treasures Shelves, her mouth agape in surprise. There were all sorts of common pottery and porcelain, but beyond these, there were red coral, crystal, pearls, and even quite a few ambers.
"How about that? It’s quite an eye-opener, isn’t it?" Rarely seeing Lin Yuan with such a surprised expression, Xia Zheng boasted proudly of his collection.
"This is called coral. I bought it for a hefty price from an old man who spends his years traveling the seas. It’s specially from the South Sea, a rarity unavailable in other places." Pointing at the red coral, Xia Zheng excitedly narrated his achievement.
After talking about the coral, he pointed to another row of twelve pieces of amber and said, "This is called amber, said to have been passed down for many, many years. Look, it even contains various small creatures."
Xia Zheng picked up one of the pieces to show Lin Yuan, "This one has a little mosquito inside. See? The mosquito’s legs are still intact, aren’t they?"
Lin Yuan leaned closer and indeed saw a tiny mosquito. She had seen such items in her past life, so naturally, they weren’t as novel to her as they were to Xia Zheng. However, she hadn’t expected that this item, usually found deep in mountains, would also be part of Xia Zheng’s collection. It seemed that his years spent outside did not solely revolve around running taverns and making money.
While Xia Zheng was still going on and on about his amber, Lin Yuan’s eyes were suddenly drawn to a sparkling item.
