Chapter 1094: 028 Having a Daughter? (Second Update)_2
Lin Yuan pursed her lips and suddenly recalled hearing about men climbing walls to meet their girlfriends at night. Weren’t the two of them just like that couple now?Smiling, she made her way back to her room where Shui Xian and Yin Xing were both waiting for her in the shadows.
In such cold weather, both of their little faces were red from the frost, but they had remained faithfully at their posts and hadn’t left. Lin Yuan felt both comforted and heartbroken, so she quickly sent them back to their rooms to rest.
"Miss, you go back to your room and rest for a bit, we’ll get some hot water ready for you," Shui Xian said as she hurried off to the small kitchen. Knowing Lin Yuan would return late, they had prepared the hot water in advance and kept it warm in the pot.
As Yin Xing pushed open the door and picked up the lamp, she was just about to report the evening’s happenings when she saw Lin Yuan hurriedly opening a window by the wall.
Curious, she peeked over and saw Xia Zheng grinning and waving at Lin Yuan.
Yin Xing let out a chuckle and discreetly moved aside.
Lin Yuan had thought that opening the window would mean Xia Zheng was no longer there, but to her surprise, he hadn’t left yet. Her heart warmed, she quickly told him to go back.
"Alright, alright, once I see you enter your room, I’ll leave," Xia Zheng said, waving his hand, not forgetting to remind her, "Don’t forget to come over early tomorrow; I’ll show you my house."
With that, he leapt gracefully over the wall.
This time, he landed safely, without falling or even staggering.
Xia Zheng grinned ruefully, regretting that he hadn’t let Lin Yuan see how handsome he had looked this time.
Shui Xian brought in the hot water, and Yin Xing tidied up the bed. Knowing Lin Yuan had already eaten, they didn’t prepare dinner for her anymore.
"That’s enough; I don’t need anything else now. You two go back and rest," Lin Yuan said.
After Yin Xing reported that no one else was coming, Lin Yuan felt relieved and quickly urged them to go to sleep.
After such an exhausting night, Lin Yuan washed her face and lay down on her bed, her mind filled with Xia Zheng carrying her during a competition. A smile curled on her lips as she drifted into a sweet sleep.
Early next morning, Lin Yuan got up. Lady Liu had not seen her daughter all night and was quite worried. She came over early and seeing Lin Yuan’s rosy cheeks, she became somewhat puzzled.
"Is your body not hurting anymore?"
Upon hearing Lady Liu’s question, Lin Yuan secretly stuck out her tongue. In her excitement this morning, she had completely forgotten her act of feigning illness.
Seeing her daughter’s expression, Lady Liu frowned suspiciously, then recalling what Xiao Linshuang had mentioned last night about seeing a woman resembling her eldest sister, she understood.
Lady Liu chuckled and shook her head but didn’t expose her daughter. However, she still hinted subtly that she should be cautious since they were not yet married.
Seeing the knowing look on Lady Liu’s face, Lin Yuan’s cheeks flushed red. She regretted her little trick, wishing she had just told her mother the truth honestly.
Because Princess Anle had invited Lin Yuan, she tidied herself and prepared to go to the General Mansion.
Lin Wei and Xiao He, both being rather gentle and shy, didn’t accompany her. Even the usually lively Xiao Linshuang uncharacteristically didn’t join in the fun this time. After quickly eating some breakfast, she took Du Ruo and Lian Qiao to the city’s south side.
Recalling Lao Fan mentioning that she should go and learn secretly from Doctor Wang, Lin Yuan couldn’t help but laugh, thinking that the young girl really wanted to earnestly polish her medical skills.
At the General Mansion.
After breakfast, Xia Yuan didn’t call for a young servant to help him dress but rather did it himself. Usually quick and efficient, General Xia was unusually sluggish today. Either he couldn’t fasten his buttons for a long time, or he couldn’t find the right belt, and even for the Jade Crown he used to tie his hair, which usually required no fuss, he changed it four or five times without satisfaction.
Princess Anle noticed her husband’s abnormal behavior but didn’t point it out, letting him fuss over it.
As the usual time to leave the house arrived, and Xia Yuan was still unhurried, Princess Anle finally lost her patience. She grabbed his robe and thrust it into his arms, saying, "Weren’t you going to deal with military affairs? Didn’t you say things were busy right after the New Year? Why are you still dawdling here? Zhenzhen has already left early, aren’t you afraid your subordinates will gossip, being such a high-ranking general?"
Xia Yuan slightly furrowed his brows. Although the princess was pushing him out the door, his feet honestly didn’t want to step outside.
"Uh, I won’t wear this robe, give me a lighter one."
Princess Anle scrunched her nose and stopped pushing him. She let go, stood with her hands on her hips glaring at him, and made her point clear, "What lighter or heavier? I’ve been married to you for over twenty years; don’t I know what you’re up to? Humph, stop dragging your feet. Yuan’ er surely won’t come now; if you really want to see her, forget about going to the camp today and just wait at home."
With that, she threw the robe to a snickering young servant nearby and sat down on a stool.
With his intentions laid bare, Xia Yuan’s face turned a bit awkward. He touched his nose and took the robe, muttering under his breath, "How can I not go? There’s so much to do in the camp!"
Putting on the robe, Xia Yuan left the house, looking back three steps at a time, a quiet sigh trailing behind him.
Not until Xia Yuan’s figure had disappeared did Princess Anle finally let out a laugh.
At her side, Dong Mei also covered her mouth, chuckling, "The master really does favor his daughters. The young masters never got this much attention when they came home!"
Princess Anle nodded, her smile gradually fading. She remembered how every time Tian Hui came over to play, he always found an excuse to come home early.
Maybe they should try for another daughter?
