Chapter 1070: 021 Different Kinds of Likes

On the fifteenth day of the first month, during the Lantern Festival, the palace arranged a banquet, and Princess Anle, Xia Yuan, arose early to prepare for their entrance to the palace.

Princess Anle personally brought a cyan robe for Xia Yuan, ready to assist him in changing his clothes.

Seeing the color of the garment, Xia Yuan’s handsome face clearly stiffened slightly, his eyebrows furrowing slightly in disdain, "This color is so ugly. Who picked this out?"

Princess Anle rolled her eyes and pouted, "Who else could have picked it? It was me, of course! What, you don’t like it? Hmph, if you don’t like it, then don’t wear it. Zhenzhen just told me she liked this robe, so if you won’t wear it, I’ll give it to Zhenzhen."

"No, no." Seeing that Princess Anle was truly about to put the robe away, Xia Yuan quickly snatched it from her, still not smiling but the slight upward curve of his eyes betrayed his thoughts, "How could I disdain something personally picked by my wife? Oh no, no, how could I possibly dislike it? Don’t bother yourself, wife, I’ll wear it myself, wear it myself."

As he spoke, he snatched the robe and swiftly put it on, then didn’t forget to stretch out his arms to show off in front of her, "See? I always said my wife has the best taste, especially when it comes to picking out clothes for me. You’ve never disappointed me."

Amused by his obvious flattery, Princess Anle found it humorous internally but still seemed to remember his earlier disdain, casting him a cold sidelong glance, "Really?"

"Absolutely," Xia Yuan said as he adjusted his sleeves, blatantly lying with his eyes wide open, "Wife, do you remember the gray outer garment you picked out for me last time? Tian Gengchong was jealous for days!"

Gray outer garment?

Princess Anle frowned slightly, then recalled. The gray outer garment was supposed to be for Xia Zhen, but her son being more demanding had insisted the color was too old. Just then, Xia Yuan came in. Since the height of the father, and his sons didn’t differ much, except that Xia Zheng was a bit thinner, the garment fit Xia Yuan almost perfectly.

Thinking of how the garment, unsold to her son, was now snatched up by her husband, Princess Anle couldn’t help but feel a touch of pity; she chuckled and stepped forward to personally adjust his collar.

This utterly delighted Xia Yuan; his corners of his mouth lifted so much he couldn’t suppress them.

As the two were engaging affectionately, Dong Mei reported from outside that the two sons had arrived. Xia Yuan rolled his eyes dramatically; those two sons just lacked timing. Daughters are better, no wonder everyone says daughters are their parents’ little helper. If he’d had a daughter, she surely wouldn’t interrupt their parents’ sweet moment.

But Princess Anle hadn’t thought that much. Smoothing the wrinkles on her husband’s shoulder, she called out, "Zhenzhen, Ah Zheng have arrived? Let them in quickly."

Watching his wife’s gentle hands leave his body, Xia Yuan silently complained.

The thick curtain was lifted, letting in a blast of cold air. Xia Yuan subtly moved in front of Princess Anle, glaring fiercely at his eldest son who had lifted the curtain too high.

As soon as Xia Zhen entered, he felt the murderous look from his father and touched his nose in confusion.

But the sharp-witted Xia Zheng saw the issue right away, pursed his lips, chuckled softly, and followed closely behind his brother, his head nearly scraping the ground.

After greeting their parents upon entering, Xia Zhen noticed his father absentmindedly touching the same robe and complimented generously, "Father, that robe looks very suitable on you!"

Heartened by his eldest son finally saying something pleasing, Xia Yuan could barely contain his joy and was about to say, "It was your mother who picked it for your father," when his eldest son unfortunately added, "It looks better on you than on me. I always said so; this color suits you better, Father. It makes me look too old!"

Pfft!

Xia Zheng clenched his fist tightly, nearly laughing out loud—his elder brother had indeed not disappointed him.

Princess Anle’s face turned awkward, and without turning, she could guess her husband’s face must have looked as dark as the bottom of a pot.

Clearing her throat, Princess Anle quickly changed the subject, "Later in the palace, both of you remember not to speak out of turn or do anything inappropriate."

Xia Zhen nodded repeatedly, "I won’t, I won’t."

Xia Yuan snorted, glaring at his elder, somewhat sluggish son, "You had better remember what you just said."
