Chapter 1020: 006 Let go of my ears! (First update)_2
When the little one hit the nail on the head, Lao Fan huffed, puffed, and glared, then turned his head away, refusing to look at him anymore.
Lao Fan didn’t leave, and although Princess Anle had no control over him, Xia Zheng certainly did.
"Xia Zheng, come back to the mansion with me."
Xia Zheng, copying Lao Fan’s demeanor, sat firmly in his chair: "I’m not going back either, I’m quite good here. Ouch, Xia Zhen, you brute, let go of my ear!"
Before Xia Zheng could finish, Xia Zhen had already grabbed his ear, lifting his chin and dragged him before Princess Anle.
Princess Anle patted her considerate eldest son with satisfaction, and without even bothering to glance at Xia Zheng, she bid farewell to the Lin Jiaxin Couple: "Take a good rest, come visit the Military Mansion some other day."
With that, she led the way out.
Xia Zhen, with Xia Zheng’s ear in hand, followed behind, resembling an eagle carrying a chick.
"Yuanyuan, wait, wait for me to come back. I haven’t eaten my fill yet, you make me, ouch, be gentle! You make me a bowl of noodles, I want chicken in it!"
Xia Zheng’s voice grew fainter, making Lin Yuan chuckle. She had imagined countless times what the brothers would be like together before coming to the Capital city, but she had not expected it to be like this. No wonder Xia Zheng claimed their family didn’t care much for social status; such a jovial family was indeed amusing.
This indeed made her look forward to meeting Xia Zheng’s father, Xia Yuan, even more.
Tian Hui walked out last. Being a proper young lady from a prestigious family, she didn’t behave as casually as the two Xias. She first paid her respects to the Lin Jiaxin Couple, and then bade farewell to Lin Yuan and the others.
Of course, the one she couldn’t forget was the little Xiao Linshuang, who, it must be said, was quite loved by everyone for his innocent cuteness and sweet talk.
After seeing off Princess Anle and her entourage, Lady Liu finally let out a sigh of relief, slumped into a chair, and exclaimed, "Oh my, I’ve held my breath all day long; it nearly killed me!"
Lin Jiaxin, although not as expressive as Lady Liu, also looked somewhat tired. It seemed that both were ill at ease in front of Princess Anle.
Despite Princess Anle’s easygoing nature and her disregard for strict formalities, her status was still there for all to see, and these small-town folks couldn’t help but feel constrained in her presence.
Seeing her parents like this, Lin Yuan suddenly regretted bringing them into the Capital city. Back in the Lin family village, although the houses they lived in weren’t as large and the food wasn’t as exotic as now, life back then was carefree and comfortable. Perhaps, her idea of coming to the Capital city to make a living was wrong from the start.
Noticing their daughter’s worried expression, the couple exchanged glances and consoled her: "Da Ya, you mustn’t think like this. We’re just not used to it yet. No matter if it’s the Capital city or someplace else, there’s always a period of adjustment needed. And regarding your dreams, we are fully supportive of you. Don’t worry, it won’t be long before we’ve adjusted just fine."
It wasn’t just for their eldest daughter’s ambitions but also for the futures of their two younger daughters and their son. As elders, they couldn’t let their own discomfort jeopardize their children’s future.
Knowing that no one had much appetite at dinner, Lin Yuan went into the kitchen personally to prepare some simple dishes.
Xiao He, determined to learn cooking from Lin Yuan, eagerly followed behind her.
Their two servant girls exchanged glances. They were about to follow when Lin Yuan said: "You don’t need to come to the kitchen with us; besides, you wouldn’t be of much help there. Instead, our luggage is still unpacked. Why don’t you help Madam and the two young misses sort through it in the backyard?"
Shui Xian and the others quickly agreed with a "Yes" and followed Lady Liu to the backyard.
Talking about sorting luggage was easier said than done; it wasn’t something that could be completed in a short time. It was simply a matter of placing everyone’s belongings in their respective courtyards. Of course, they had to choose courtyards first.
Just as Xia Zheng had described, there were indeed several courtyards in the back. The largest, central courtyard was naturally reserved for the Lin Jiaxin Couple. As for the smaller courtyards, Lin Wei chose the one closest to Lady Liu, Xiao He next to Lin Wei, and as Lin Yuan would often come and go from the mansion, she naturally picked the one nearest to the front courtyard.
Although Lao Fan was Xiao Linshuang’s master, as an outsider male, it was inappropriate for him to stay in the back courtyard, so he found himself a secluded courtyard next to the garden. To take care of his daily needs, Lady Liu selected two young servants from those brought by Princess Anle to serve in his courtyard.
