Chapter 1000: 151 years old

Time passed swiftly, and before long, it was Xiao Yongyan’s first birthday.

On this day, Lady Fan arrived at the Lin family’s residence early with her sons and daughters-in-law, even the busy Liu Limin, who was always occupied with the winery business, came.

It had been a long while since Lin Yuan had seen Liu Limin, and seeing her again, she was truly taken aback. Liu Limin, who usually couldn’t stop chattering and laughing before even entering the door, was unusually quiet for the first time.

Lady Fan was smiling, but the sorrow in her brows was plainly visible. Lin Yuan couldn’t help but ask her about it out of curiosity, only to receive three sighs from Lady Fan, which made Lin Yuan’s heart sink even more.

When asking Liu Limin, she merely forced a smile and said she was too tired, but everyone could see that it wasn’t just exhaustion that affected her.

Jeng Ruyue, with careful support from Liu Siqi, disembarked from the carriage. Judging by the dates, she was a little over five months pregnant by now. Although a bit pale, she was in good spirits, and her slightly protruding belly was delightful to see, making Lady Liu’s eyes curve into smiles.

As it was their little cousin’s first birthday, the brothers Liu Zhiguang and Liu Zhiyang naturally wouldn’t miss it. Upon entering, Liu Zhiguang called the brothers Ding Ming and Ding Liang to practice martial arts in the courtyard. Despite starting martial arts training later than the Ding brothers, Liu Zhiguang’s every move was quite impressive.

Compared to Liu Zhiguang’s roughness, Liu Zhiyang was much more composed and quiet. Sometimes Lin Yuan even wondered if the brothers’ birth times had been mixed up, thinking that Liu Zhiyang should have been the elder brother!

Speaking of which, Liu Zhiyang had nearly spent a year at the Zhuma Town School, and at first, Lin Yuan had been worried that the bad influences there would corrupt him, even going to check on him secretly a few times.

To everyone’s relief, Liu Zhiyang was a person of high integrity, who disdained to associate with those of low standing, which reassured Lin Yuan.

Upon meeting, Zhao Suxin began to praise Liu Zhiyang’s performance at the school, mentioning how he had the best grades and comportment, and how he was the most esteemed by the masters.

Of course, the most talked-about point was that Liu Zhiyang would undoubtedly become another young talent following Ma Junying.

When it came to Ma Junying, Liu Zhiyang became more animated, which left Lin Yuan somewhat stunned.

"Young Master Ma is immensely knowledgeable and talented, a man of great learning. With the civil service examination upon us, the title of top scholar is sure to be his, which will surely bring glory to Zhuma Town!"

Witnessing the admiration in Liu Zhiyang’s eyes, Lin Yuan couldn’t help but laugh, "Second cousin, you would be so suited to be a girl, then once Young Master Ma tops the exams, you could marry him. With your name gracing the gold list and then marriage on your wedding night, Young Master Ma’s success in the exams would bring absolute happiness!"

"Cousin!" Liu Zhiyang’s eyes widened in shock, abruptly shifting from a starry-eyed admirer back to a composed, mature youngster.

Lin Yuan chuckled to herself, finding this side of Liu Zhiyang truly adorable. However, she was quite confident about Ma Junying achieving the position of top scholar; he had both talent and good moral character, and should he indeed pass the examinations, he was sure to be an excellent official.

After welcoming Lady Fan and her family inside, Lin Yuan saw Lady Liu suddenly smiling towards the main gate. She initially thought Aunt Wang had arrived, but to her surprise, it was Lady Yang.

In her hands, Lady Yang held a small red bundle, standing cheerfully at the doorway and waving to Lady Liu.

Once Lady Liu approached, Lady Yang passed the small bundle into her hands, "This is two sets of new clothes I made for the child. You must be too busy with looking after the child and managing household chores to make clothes for him, so I went ahead and made two sets. Consider it a first-birthday present from me as his grandmother."

Upon hearing this, Lady Liu, of course, couldn’t refuse and gratefully accepted, "Mother, you should stay for dinner today. We’re going to have the fortune-telling ceremony for Yong Yan later on. You should join us!"

As she spoke, she reached to pull Lady Yang’s arm.

Lady Yang smiled, shook off Lady Liu’s hand, and said, "Just being able to hear you call me ’mother’ is happiness enough for me. I still have two kids waiting for me at home, so I won’t come inside."

"Why not bring Yong He and his brother over together?" Lady Liu slung the small bundle over her arm, intending to call the two children from next door, but Lady Yang firmly refused.

Lady Liu understood that she felt embarrassed to face their entire family. But the past was behind them, and they had forgiven her, so why continue to dwell on old matters?
