Chapter 820: Chapter 820 Human Sentiments

Rongchuan glanced around and said, "Let’s sit in the teahouse across the street."

Xue Han felt a hint of sweetness in her heart, "Okay."

The teahouse was quite crowded, so the two of them found a spot by the street and ordered two servings of snacks and a pot of tea.

Rongchuan’s smile never left his face as he pushed the snacks toward Xue Han, "These are your favorites."

Xue Han also pushed the snacks in front of her toward him, "And these are what you love to eat."

Rongchuan gazed at Xue Han with a silly smile. Xue Han, feeling embarrassed, asked, "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Because you’re beautiful."

Rongchuan belatedly realized what he had said, and Xue Han’s cheeks were already flushed with shyness.

Xue Han glared at Rongchuan, "How come I never noticed before that you’re so good with words?"

Rongchuan was very honest, "I never had the opportunity before."

Xue Han sipped her tea with her head lowered, not looking at Rongchuan. Since he returned to the Ning family, Rongchuan had grown a lot bolder.

Rongchuan ate the snacks without speaking further. He truly enjoyed the moments with Xue Han. Even in silence, he felt the air smelled sweet.

When Su Xuan and Chang Zhi arrived at the teahouse, they saw Xue Han and Rongchuan smiling foolishly at each other.

Su Xuan giggled to herself, "The relationship between childhood friends is really nice."

Chang Zhi, holding his wife’s hand, said, "Our relationship isn’t bad either."

Hearing the voices, Xue Han and Rongchuan awkwardly withdrew their gazes. Xue Han stood up, "Fourth Brother, Fourth Sister-in-Law."

Seeing that it was getting late, Chang Zhi said, "Let’s go to the restaurant for dinner."

Rongchuan agreed, "I’ll cover the bill for this meal."

Chang Zhi snorted, "Of course you should be the one treating."

After all, it was Rongchuan who had to pay since he was marrying his sister. It was only right that he should bear the cost.

At the Zhou family, Zhulan saw Ming Teng and Ran Xun brought back by Chang Lian and asked with a smile, "Where did you run into these two?"

Chang Lian replied, "Mother, I met them at the teahouse. I wasn’t comfortable leaving them alone so I brought them back myself."

Zhulan looked at Ming Teng and his reluctance to come home. The two boys said they wanted to eat out when they left and she said with a smile, "We’ve already had lunch. You haven’t eaten yet, have you?"

Chang Lian replied, "We haven’t."

Zhulan said, "I’ll have the kitchen prepare something for you. Chang Lian, go change your clothes, and Ming Teng, make yourself at home, Ran Xun."

Chang Lian, concerned about his father, asked, "Mother, how is father?"

"He took his medicine and is resting now!"

Chang Lian inquired, "Is he feeling any better?"

"Much better. He ate quite a bit at noon, so don’t worry."

"That’s good."

In the capital’s restaurant, Su Xuan chose the place, "Every time I return to the capital, I make sure to eat here at least once. Don’t be fooled by the restaurant’s modest size; it’s pretty popular."

Chang Zhi looked at the full seats and agreed, "Indeed, it’s bustling. Love, where shall we sit?"

Su Xuan called for the shopkeeper, "Do you still have any reserved private rooms?"

The shopkeeper replied, "Ah, you’re a bit unlucky. The last private room has just been taken by another party."

Xue Han suggested, "Sister-in-Law, if there are no seats, shall we eat somewhere else?"

Su Xuan didn’t want to. This time when the Zhou family came to the capital, her husband had gone back to his hometown with his eldest brother, so it wasn’t easy for her to come out alone. She really had been looking forward to this.

Noticing his wife’s crestfallen mood, Chang Zhi offered, "We can wait a while; it’s no big deal."

Xue Han quickly joined the conversation, "We just had some pastries and aren’t hungry yet, sister-in-law, let’s wait a while."

Su Xuan felt embarrassed. The restaurant wasn’t big and there was no place to wait aside from going back to the carriage. Then she thought to herself, once her husband returned, she could go out whenever she wanted in the future and this one time didn’t matter. "We’ll dine at another restaurant and return here when there’s another chance."

The shopkeeper who had left earlier quickly ran back, "The guests who just left asked if they know you and inquired whether you would like to dine together."

Su Xuan raised an eyebrow, "What is the surname of the guest in the private room?"

The shopkeeper answered, "The guests in the private room are Magistrate Shen and Princely Heir Yao."

Having operated for many years, the restaurant owner recognized the nobility of the capital.

Su Xuan raised an eyebrow and did not wish to join them, but before she could voice her reluctance, Yao Zheyu had already come downstairs, "It’s a rare encounter, shall we have a simple meal together?"

With the person having come down to invite them personally, they could only go upstairs.

Rongchuan asked with a smile, "Is today also a rest day for the Ministry of War?"

Yao Zheyu clarified, "Not exactly, I switched rest days with someone, please take your seats."

Su Xuan did not see any children around, "Did just the two of you come out, where are the children?"

Magistrate Shen replied, "They are at Hou Residence."

Su Xuan thought to herself, Shen Yile couldn’t be pleased and even if she hid it well, Su Xuan could still sense it. It seemed that inviting them was Princely Heir Yao’s idea.

Yao Zheyu called over the shopkeeper, "We have ordered some dishes already, not knowing what you like. You can order what you prefer; this meal is on me."

Rongchuan spoke up, "How can this be, I should be the one to cover this meal to thank Princely Heir Yao for inviting us up."

Yao Zheyu glanced at Ning Princely Heir and Miss Zhou sitting together, thinking how well-matched they indeed were, "I’ve been wanting to invite Ning Princely Heir for a meal but never had the chance. It’s a rare opportunity today; I must be allowed to take care of the bill."

With the conversation reaching this point, turning down the offer would have looked bad.

Rongchuan responded, "Then today, I’ll have the cheek to accept."

Rongchuan ordered without holding back, choosing dishes that Xue Han loved without even needing her to say a word.

Su Xuan watched her husband with a smile. Chang Zhi felt a chill run down his spine, realizing he didn’t remember much of what his wife liked to eat, which made him feel guilty. He glared at Rongchuan and reflected on himself, discovering he hadn’t paid enough attention to his wife.

Su Xuan didn’t intend to make it difficult for her husband. She knew exactly what he was like before. After Rongchuan finished ordering, she ordered a few of her husband’s favorites and also chose a couple of dishes she wanted to try.

Chang Zhi felt guilty that his wife remembered all his preferences, "Next time we dine out, I’ll do the ordering."

Su Xuan’s eyes showed surprise, "Alright."

Shen Yile was already upset, and seeing the two couples across from her only made her feel worse. Her husband had switched his rest day just to appease her.

Just thinking about the two new concubines in her home fired up Shen Yile’s temper, and the two couples in front of her became an even more irritating sight, although she still had to endure it.

Before, she had looked down on Su Xuan. Although both were magistrates, Su Xuan was an orphaned girl.

Now that the Zhou family had established a connection with the Ning family, she had to be polite to Su Xuan. Just like now, while she was fuming inside, she still had to hold it in.

At Zhou Residence, Zhou Shuren had already rested well and woke up. Zhulan poured him some water and handed it over, "Have some water to moisten your throat."

Zhou Shuren felt comfortable after a good sleep, "Has there been any reply from the Zhong family?"

Zhulan picked up a letter from the table, "The reply came early today; this is the letter from Master Zhong to you."

Zhou Shuren took the letter. He had been concerned about the letter he sent to Master Zhong and smiled upon opening the reply, "Although it incurred a favor, matters are settled."

Zhulan also breathed a sigh of relief, "That’s good, but it’s a favor that’s hard to repay."

Zhou Shuren put the letter back, "Indeed, such a big favor is difficult to repay."

Zhulan worried, "The Zhong family won’t take this opportunity to propose a marriage, will they?"

Zhou Shuren laughed, "Don’t worry, Master Zhong won’t waste such a favor on match-making, and besides, didn’t you set conditions with Lady Gao that day? The Zhong family won’t do it."

Zhulan felt relieved, "As long as they won’t, that’s good."
