Chapter 286: Chapter 288 True or False First Love 88_1
Zhou Lina stepped out of the office building and was just about to see where people were.
Zhou Juan popped out from the side of the wall, looking at her with a face full of envy. She had always known that Zhou Lina was beautiful, but she hadn’t expected her to become even more so.
In contrast, she had never been as beautiful as Zhou Lina, and after spending a few years in the Great Northwest, her skin had become rough.
Not to mention, Zhou Lina’s hands were plump and white, while her own were calloused.
"Zhou Lina," Zhou Juan stepped forward, her tone low, "are you surprised to see me?"
Surprised? Zhou Lina shook her head, "Not surprised. Your in-laws have been asking around town about jobs. Asking for two at a time, of course, I guessed you’d come back."
Especially with those few letters, "Right, the letters you mailed to me."
Since she had already returned, there was no need to keep the letters anymore.
"No rush." Zhou Juan had intended to take the letters, but she thought about it and decided it wouldn’t be safe to keep them at home either.
The kind of life she could lead in the Zheng Family depended on whether those letters were still there.
"Your mom and uncle divorced?" Zhou Juan hadn’t expected Zhang Shifen to have already divorced Zhou Dajiang.
"Yes." That matter had caused quite a stir, and it wouldn’t be surprising for Zhou Juan, who had just returned, to know about it.
"From now on, we’re no longer relatives." Whether it was Zhou Lina, Zhang Shifen, or even her boyfriend Gu Kai, it was clear their futures wouldn’t be bleak.
They could’ve been relationships she could have taken good advantage of, but Zhou Yong’s stupid ex-wife had messed it all up.
Even though Zhou Yong had already divorced her, what did it matter? Could it possibly restore the relationship they had before?
"Do you regret that you won’t be able to scheme against us anymore?" Zhou Lina was blunt; she had never considered giving Zhou Juan any face.
Zhou Juan was somewhat shocked by Zhou Lina’s blunt words, "You, you’re really too direct."
"You’ve already started working, and with this attitude..." With her already poor reputation, and speaking so impolitely, could she possibly be popular at work?
"With my temperament, and people constantly scheming against me, I think I haven’t been fierce enough, otherwise there would be no need for repeated scheming."
"Really, you’d introduce just anyone." Zhou Lina rolled her eyes dismissively.
She might not know or understand Feng Hao, but Gu Wei and Zhang Shifen did.
He came off as nothing but a thug relying on his older brother, lacking any real ability; indeed, he had no ability, but he sure played the field.
No one knows how many girls he had ruined, but because of his brother’s status, aside from keeping their grievances to themselves, what else could they do?
Most importantly, this man was already married, with several kids to boot. Zhou Lina becoming his wife would make so many ex-wives that it was unclear exactly which one she’d be, or if she’d just become a ready-made mother.
After learning about Feng Hao’s situation, Zhou Lina wished she could confront Luo Lili again at the Luo Family’s place.
Gu Wei and Gu Kai stopped her, vowing not to let her get away with it, which made Zhou Lina abandon the idea.
She knew that when it came to schemes, the aunt and nephew from the Gu Family would be much more ruthless than her, and with her currently in the spotlight, people would watch her as well as the Luo Family and Zhou Dajiang.
Although she hadn’t gone to trouble Luo Lili, she also knew that Luo Lili’s life after the divorce had not been easy.
The precious son of the Luo Family had barely started working when he lost his job, and in such a manner.
It could be said that the Luo Family had lost all face, both at work and at home, becoming infamous once again.
Feng Hao even forced them to make the Luo Family pay back the money, and he did so with a lion’s mouth, leaving the helpless Luo Family with no choice but to cough up the money.
Having lost a large sum of money, that was what the Luo Family grieved over most, and of course, the blame ultimately fell on Luo Lili’s head.
With no job, and having just become a divorced woman, Luo Lili could be said to be extremely unpopular in her parental home.
Not long after she returned to her parental home, the Luo Family had already begun to arrange another marriage for her.
But bearing such a reputation, who would be willing to marry her, not to mention that the Luo Family had set a high price.
Zhou Juan had barely returned when she learned of Luo Lili’s fate from the Zheng Family Couple’s mouths.
As for this former sister-in-law, Zhou Juan felt indifferent, or rather, she truly had no affection for so-called relatives from her parental home.
"I had originally thought, in a few days, I’d go report to the neighborhood office and then treat everyone to a meal, as a sort of wedding banquet for Zheng Weijian and me."
Zhou Juan also hoped that, if possible, her relationship with Zhou Lina could continue.
A wedding banquet? "No need for that, we’re no longer relatives," Zhou Lina waved her hand, "Besides, Xiao Xuan is with my mom, Zhou Dajiang doesn’t contribute to the living expenses either, and there’s not much interaction with the Zhou Family anymore."
Zhou Lina had originally thought that Zhou Dajiang would fight for Zhou Xuan’s custody, but unexpectedly, he didn’t fuss and let go quite readily.
She didn’t know why he would let go, but his doing so was a blessing, otherwise, who knows when all the paperwork could have been sorted out.
Zhou Juan really didn’t understand what Zhou Dajiang was thinking, clearly Zhou Yong had no prospects, so why would he give up on Zhou Xuan.
But regardless of her confusion, things were settled, and it wasn’t her place to question as a married daughter.
Zhou Lina had managed to make the conversation awkward again, and Zhou Juan truly didn’t understand—clearly, they were both working people, yet Zhou Lina was still so capricious.
And how could such a capricious person end up with a boyfriend who was so outstanding?
Just thinking about Gu Kai, who was Gu Wei’s nephew, even though he hadn’t been at the mechanical factory for long, he had already followed his mentor and solved several major issues for the factory.
Everyone was guessing when he would become a Level 8 Worker, as his abilities were simply too strong.
Zhou Juan felt all sorts of bitterness thinking about it. She had thought that although Zheng Weijian wasn’t much to speak of, at least the Zheng Family would help them secure two good jobs.
Only to find out that Zhou Lina was still outperforming her, if only she hadn’t gone to the countryside as an educated youth; had she been able to take the exams, she would definitely have been able to work at the steel factory.
If she had had a job, the caliber of men introduced to her would have been higher, and she wouldn’t have to worry about not finding a good man even if she hadn’t married Zheng Weijian.
She would certainly have found a man with an office job, with a future definitely better than Gu Kai’s.
But as it happened, one misstep led to another, and despite the Zheng Family pulling all sorts of strings and hoping for their married daughters to help, the Zheng Family sons-in-law just wouldn’t let their wives lend a hand.
Added to that were Big Sister Zheng’s maneuvers, which had intimidated several married Zheng daughters into agreeing to their parents’ requests without taking the job search to heart.
As a result, the job Zheng Weijian found was as a warehouse worker in a small factory.
Far from home with a low salary, Zhou Juan’s own earnings from the neighborhood office weren’t that great either, which caused her considerable dissatisfaction.
Zhou Juan had a lot of complaints against Zhou Lina and no matter how much she tried to control them, she couldn’t suppress them.
After exchanging a few hasty words, Zhou Juan felt there was truly no way to continue the conversation with Zhou Lina.
As long as she saw Zhou Lina, she couldn’t calm her feelings.
