Chapter 1075: Chapter 1077: Coronation Grand Wedding (4)

Everyone was stunned, but Cai Wei understood all too clearly. Beneath the big red wedding veil, she curved the corners of her mouth, willingly kneeling in respect for the first time in her life.

"This concubine has received the decree and thanks for your grace, long live the emperor for ten-thousand years!"

With her cue, everyone at the entrance snapped to their senses and joined in the shouting, "Long live the emperor for ten-thousand years, long life to the empress for a thousand years—"

"Empress, rise to your feet. All you lords may rise as well!"

Inside the dragon carriage, Emperor Jinwu’s voice was as smooth as jade. Without seeing his majestic countenance, one could still sense his immense joy from his voice alone.

"Thank you, Your Majesty!"

The crowd stood up, and Cai Wei, with the support of Huan Qiu and Chun Liu, slowly made her way toward the dragon carriage.

The dragon carriage, used exclusively by the emperor, was luxurious and imposing. Its bright yellow brocade embroidered with dragons symbolized the emperor’s supreme status. Carved dragons coiling around pearls adorned the carriage’s roof, and the golden dragons, basking in sunlight, were dazzling. The Night Pearls in their mouths emitted a brilliant radiance, bestowing divine solemnity on the golden dragons.

In front of the dragon carriage, beaded curtains dangled, each bead sparkling and reflecting a gleaming light.

The Chief Eunuch, Yang Yong, by the Emperor’s side spoke respectfully, "Empress Dowager, please ascend the dragon carriage!"

As Cai Wei was preparing to board the carriage, Nangong Yi had already lifted the bead curtains and extended his hand to her.

He was dressed in a bright yellow dragon robe, his handsome face beaming with a sincere smile, "Wei’er, come!"

He called to her in a voice only the two of them could hear. Cai Wei’s face was covered by the bridal veil; though she could not see his face, she could feel the warm smile on it. Beneath the veil, she saw a familiar hand, fair and slender, exceptionally beautiful—the hand of a born artist, with meticulously rounded and groomed nails. Utterly flawless.

Cai Wei, bashful yet sweet, placed her small hand in that large palm and slowly stepped onto the dragon carriage.

As the bead curtain fell, the shouts rose again from outside, "Godspeed to the emperor, Godspeed to the Empress Dowager!"

On either side of the street, curtains were neatly arranged, not a single commoner in sight—three steps one guard, five steps one official—everyone was on high alert. Today was the grand wedding of the new emperor, who placed great emphasis on the event. The slightest mistake could result in execution of the nine clans. As such, these soldiers and officials were extremely vigilant, not even blinking...

The dragon carriage slowly made its way toward the palace.

The streets were quiet and deserted, with only the sound of silk bamboo music wafting through the air, accompanied by the orderly sound of horseshoes...

Inside the dragon carriage, Nangong Yi lifted Cai Wei’s wedding veil and gazed at her charming and radiant little face, his lips curving into a smile.

"Wei’er, you are mine now!"

Cai Wei looked up and playfully glared at him, "Now that you are the emperor, why are you still so impetuous? You should be referring to yourself as ’I’ now. Be more mindful in front of the officials later, lest you misspeak and become a laughingstock."

Nangong Yi lifted her hand to his lips and kissed it, laughed and said, "As a husband, of course, I know that. In front of the officials, I am the sovereign of Great Jin, but in front of Wei’er, I will always be Nangong Yi!"

Without realizing it, Cai Wei was moved again. Holding Nangong Yi’s hand, she softly said, "You fool, why are you so good to me?"

Nangong Yi laughed and said, "I expended such great effort to marry you, my daughter-in-law. If I don’t treat you well, whom should I treat well?"

Cai Wei pursed her lips and said solemnly, "Nangong Yi, I will be good to you too!"

Nangong Yi chuckled softly, wrapping his arms around her shoulders, his forehead resting against hers, and murmured warmly, "Yes, just as you said, we will be a pair for a lifetime, side by side at the table, growing old together..."
