Chapter 1049: Chapter 1051: Xiang Yun’s Grand Wedding (8)
The once high and mighty Nangong Shi, mocked and derided, felt his blood pulsing violently, the veins at his temples nearly bursting. Struggling to contain himself, he said with difficulty, "That’s right, I’ve lost, and have come to seek refuge under the Great Khan’s command!"
Saknu leaned back, sitting on his chair with the grandeur of a great steed and a golden knife, laughing heartily as he said, "Liaodan does not harbor the useless. You are of no use to me. Why would I need you?"
Nangong Shi responded, "The Great Khan has ambitious aspirations and will surely not be satisfied with ruling just the land of Liaodan. Great Jin is bountiful and vast in territory and resources. I am willing to lend my strength to the Great Khan, to help you seize Great Jin."
Saknu snorted with a cold smirk, "I’ve just ascended to the throne, and Liaodan’s internal affairs are not yet stable, with all under the heavens awaiting revitalization. Where did you see that I want to wage war against Great Jin? Or do you wish for me, with the might of an entire nation, to seek revenge on your behalf?"
Jin Zhong stepped forward with a bow, "Great Khan, your famed reputation is renowned far and wide, a veritable King Kong of the steppes, an admired hero to all people under the heavens. Yet the Emperor of Great Jin has been rude, repeatedly mocking you, turning you into a laughing stock of the world. He first betrothed Princess An Le to Nangong Yi, taking her back though she bore your title, and now has changed her title, intending to marry her off to another. With such actions, is it not enough for the Great Khan to sweep over Great Jin and wash away past humiliations?"
"As for us, Your Highness may have fallen, but we still have a foothold in Great Jin. If the Great Khan goes to war with Great Jin, Your Highness will surely lend all the support you can to fulfill the Great Khan’s heart’s desire of unifying the world!"
Saknu laughed ominously, "I, Saknu, have never cared for reputation or face, as long as I get what I want. I have no interest in your Princess Zhao Yang; whether she changes her title or marries is of no concern to me. As for Princess An Le, hehe, sooner or later she will be mine. There’s no need for war, I have other ways to capture her. Therefore, you two fools can get out!"
Stunned by Saknu’s eviction order, Nangong Shi asked, "Great Khan! Do you truly not aspire to unite the world?"
He couldn’t believe Saknu lacked ambition—the man was like a wild beast, exuding a savage nature from every part of his body. He couldn’t believe he lacked ambition.
With a mocking laugh, Saknu’s scarred face grew more sinister.
"Whether I have ambitions or not is none of the concern of a dog that has lost its home. You couldn’t even hold on to an empire handed to you on a platter. What makes you think you have the right to help me achieve great things? Fool, next time you want someone to do your dirty work, choose someone as stupid as you!"
"Great Khan!"
Nangong Shi wanted to say more, but was stopped by Jin Zhong. "Your Highness, it’s no use talking more. Let’s go."
Grinding his teeth, Nangong Shi flicked his sleeves and stormed out. Just as he left the palace, he erupted, "Uncle, I want to go back. I no longer wish to be driven away and looked down upon like a homeless cur. I want to fight them in a final battle!"
Jin Zhong said coldly, "Your Highness, we have escaped through countless dangers, sacrificing many of our loyal followers just to break free. Now, you are acting rashly, disregarding our greater goal, seeking death upon return. If you persist in going back, then go by yourself. Forgive me, but Jin Zhong cannot follow you to a senseless death."
Agitated, Nangong Shi said, "Uncle, when will our days end like this? I have never lived such a fearful life, like that of a homeless dog."
As they walked away, Jin Zhong spoke indifferently, "Heaven tasks those who have great destinies with adversity: to suffer in spirit and in body, to endure hunger and hardship, to languish alone and face turmoil. Your Highness desires to achieve a millennium’s legacy; you must endure what others cannot, withstand what others cannot bear. If Your Highness lacks this persistence and fortitude, by the time the opportunity arises, you may well have been stifled to death by your frustrations, much less achieve any great legacy."
